Evil Ryu version 2013 wish list

Have a feeling that E. Ryu is going to do very well in Ultra, say, compared to Ryu. With the general weakening of safe jump setups and meaty pressure, a lot of emphasis is being shifted to landing damage in the neutral game, which E. Ryu is quite far and away the best shoto in the game at doing that. That’s his niche.

Coupled with general buffs to his already very solid normals, buff to health and nerfs to a lot of his harsher matches, I think this is the tipping point where E. Ryu can really start to have some real presence.

If the Evil Ryu keeps his initial buffs he’ll be top 10 for sure, arguably top 5. I actually think they over buffed him. I didn’t expect the buff to teleport and health. If they decide to remove stuff, I’d rather they start with the health and teleport. Keep all the other buffs intact. I’d rather he be stronger on offense then defense.

But I’ll be brutally honest. I’m not into playing low or mid tier characters. I play Evil Ryu because I like the character and I want him to be as good as possible. So I really hope he manages to get through all these loketest with all his current buffs in place. If he ends up being top 5 or arguably the best character in the game then so be it. Someone has to be the best, why not this angry dude.

I agree with the fact that he is overbuffed, but i really think that they shouldnt buff both his tp and his health.

Now theres an “Official Notes” over many characters’s changelog, and E.Ryu’s official notes doesnt have any notation about changes on the teleport.

I posted about this in the rebalance thread. Might as well say something here as well. It’s either it’s a hidden buff or everyone at the loketest is blind. Kim1234 and Azrael both both thought it was as good as Akuma’s teleport. I listened to a Alpha Counter podcast a few days ago and someone on there is staying in Japan and thought the same thing as well. He said that people at the loketest were abusing his wake up teleport now that it’s better. I trust those guys, I think it might be a hidden buff. You can’t abuse Evil Ryu’s teleport on wake up unless you’re opponent is bad or the teleport itself is good. All those guys might be wrong, but I’ll take their word for it for now.

Evil ryu having Akuma teleport and 950 health is too much imo with the damage output he can do. I agree that if they was to take out 2 things, its these two, the rest of the buffs are mostly really fixes and things he needed. I would be ok with just the 950 health and even the health buff was a surprise, his health was ok at 900 imo, but yea if they keep teleport and health at 950 am all good with it lol.

Been playing E.ryu for a couple of months now.

I can honestly say the only changed I really wanted from him was sweep after cross up tatsu.

He’s pretty fine otherwise IMO.

I think a Character is fine if they have good normals, good zoning FB game and GODLY AA’s. I believe E.ryu falls into all those categories.

Shinebox went to Super Arcade last night to play test USF4. I asked him to play around with Evil Ryu a bit and give us his impressions, this is what he wrote

He also mentioned that ERyu’s teleport is the same. So maybe people just thought it was better then it actually was. Target combo moving him forward is probably the only new thing we learned from this and it’s good to know that it does. The rest is pretty self explanatory. I think the new target combo will be a big help for Evil Ryu. At certain ranges he can blow up focus attacks and he gets a guaranteed knockdown combo without being too close or blowing meter.

The buff to hop kick and sweep are also a big help as well. I hope these 3 changes stay in the final version. If they want to remove stuff then take away the health or the axe kick buff as those are either unnecessary or of no help at all to the character IMO. The slow low forward I can live with. If the rest of the buffs stay intact I think he’ll be a pretty strong character in USF4. Maybe not top 5 like some were thinking at first, but definitely a strong enough character to that can win big tournaments.

I’m likely going back tomorrow, not guaranteeing it though. Let me know if there is anything else you want me to test (private message on here is a better method)

Just to finish the ambiguity: the c.mk buff is defunitively a buff, they increase blockstring by 1f in order to make the c.mk hado a true blockstring whatever the distance is.
Also i wanted to know if they applied the ryu’s c.mk hado change to e.ryu ( it seems that when you press forward just before a c.mk hado it wont do a shoryuken anymore). I hope this thing applied to e.ryu too.

Edit: seems that the U2 is also fixed! Woot!

Im curious about that change on the moves’ priority aswell. If they havent changed it for the whole cast, its gonna be a problem for the ones who play with multiple characters. Its gonna be a huge problem for the ones who plays with multiple shotos.

Do you guys really have problems walking forward and doing c.mk xx fireball with him? It’s a lot harder to do it on accident with him because his c.mk has so many frames.

It have never been about be or not to be able to do it.

If you walk forward and do c.mk xx hadoken you have to do one out of the two following things to avoid a undesired shoryuken: you have to wait a few frames to hit the MK after you crouch or you have to wait a few extra frames after hitting the c.MK to cancel it into hadoken. Both options are worse than doing everything as fast as possible.

The thing is, we will be doing that with Ryu all the time because it grants him a better chance to score a true block string with the c.MK xx hadoken because he will cancel it in the first active frame and because he will be able to walk a few frames more and do the c.MK nearer the opponent than before. As soon as we get used to do it with Ryu, we will start instinctively try to do it with the other chars that have c.MK xx Projectile. If they do not get the movement priorities’ switched, we gonna have a lot of shoryukens coming out by mistake.

c.mk > dp shortcut is still there for E.Ryu

the big issue I have with this is negative edge. I will sometimes get a medium axe kick if I walk forward and move the stick to do a half circle to avoid the dp. If anything E.Ryu needs this shortcut removed more than Ryu does.

Do you know that this motion you do only works because you end up pressing the punch later than you would to do with a qcf move, right? f,hcf P also activates a shoryuken.

Yeah, but I play multiple shotos so I have been doing it like this because nothing happens with Ryu, Ken or Akuma. I always get the fireball consistently. It’s not really walking forward that’s the problem, it’s when I dash forward I encounter this.

I can already tell you it is.

i was at dreamhack and tried eryu for the limited time i had.
he has faster walkspeed forward now. backwards walkspeed feels like AE.
hes teleports does travel alot farther now then before. kick teleport has really fast recovery.
you can do stupid thing like lk axe kick red focus lvl1 crumple to ultra. didnt remember the damage tho. red focus lvl1 does 90 damage.

his lk tatsu reach is HUGE now. still whiffs on some small characters after 3 cr.lp st.mpxx lk tatsu.
you can do yun anti backdash OS with lk tatsu. cr.lk (lk tatsu) st.lp
caught ryus backdash with it.
st.mp st.hp target combo does alot of damage. atleast 170 damage.

Dont believe me? ask logan sama from uk. he did the testing with me.

Delay hitting the punch button for the fireball. You don’t have to wait for anything. It doesn’t cancel late. You’re just pressing the button later. It works.

His teleport was easily punishable when I used him for over an hour. Unless your build is different (which is possible) his teleport has not changed. It’s not in the change log either. Even if it has changed, it is not anywhere as good as Akuma’s and trust me we would have seen video of Evil Ryu’s teleport by now.

Don’t believe me? ask Combofiend

So we’ve had 3 big Loketest events as as far as I can tell. It seems like nobody is talking about this character. He’s not getting a lot of hype like Ken, Mak, or even Sagat even though his change list looked pretty good. So you guys think if he’s pretty much ignored by most people then chances are he’ll keep all his buffs and then maybe even gain a few more?

As much as I want to hear more about my character, a part of me thinks that him being ignored will help him make it through all these loketest unscathed. If nobody thinks he’s too good then Combofiend and company won’t look at this guy as someone they need to tone down. At least I hope that’s the case because I like what I’ve read and heard about him so far from those who have played him. I think he’ll be very solid in Ultra if these changes hold.
