Evil Ryu General Discussion: Same Ryu, but now he's pissed!

what are Evil Ryu’s best unclose frame traps and/or button baits.

I am playing against a Dudley who presses a lot of buttons (mostly cr. LP) and I keep getting clipped even when i try to frame trap him (so I know I must be leaving too big of a gap).

any suggestions?

Does using Cl.MK after a MK Axe kick instead of cr.mp work on any other characters besides Poison? Also does E. Ryu have any set ups after comboing into sweep?

^ Poison, Abel and Seth while standing. You can do st. MP xx MK Axe > st. MK on Rose in the corner while standing. Otherwise, that’s it.

And you can get a safe jump off of sweep. I am almost certain it’s something along the lines of slight walk forward > j. HK. Ofcourse that’s if they don’t delayed wake up.

For small gaps, it’s pretty much just cr.LP, cr.MP or cr.MP, cr.MP. Most of E Ryu’s normals have longer startup, so his tighter frame traps are pretty much just the basic shoto frame traps.

Yeah. I was hoping he had more, but it seems like regular Ryu has a better frame trap game than Evil Ryu.

As for Evil Ryus frame traps… they are monstrous as fuck… with two bars you get at least 280 damage.

Gotta learn to react to counter hits and always try build meter after anything you do… Evil Ryus setups arent reliable anyway due to DWU.

Cr.mp > cr.mk so strong.

ya for sure he’s got some devastating CH combos that lead into good damage if you have 2 bars

i find myself having an easier time going for certain frame traps with regular ryu. plus ryu has some options that evil ryu doesn’t have (like f+HP frame traps).

Not necessarily. It just depends on what you’re looking to counter. I actually think E Ryu’s frame trap game is stronger than Ryu’s due to having more versatility, utility, and damage with all the different normals he can frame trap with.

They still work. Watch for the “technical” sign to pop up and add a whiffed jab into the setup. His jab take as many frames as the DWU. Definitely made it a LOT harder, but you can still do them. Back throw, dash, dive kick isn’t actually that bad. You get the most time to react on that one it seems.
