You can’t use Axe Kick whiff to Super because it is really obvious. There’s no way of making the Axe Kick actually hit after the reset so they will know it is coming.
It works, I just don’t know if it’ll be practical. I made a small video about how to land a dive kick on a standing opponent as long as you fool them into blocking a cross up. It works on everybody besides big opponents although many characters have a strange hit box that makes it very difficult. But basically you have to look to hit them on there back side.
That’s the idea, actually using in matches and making it work is another thing.
Oh shit you are a genius! And if you do it that way you only ever need to reset them with cr.LP!
So cr.LP to reset and you get another 50/50 guess where if they reversal they lose big time!
Like I said, it’s just for the surprise factor. With it being minus it’s not the best. Thanks for the jump over demon reset btw.
Edited and re-recorded using your technique
Great stuff, hopefully you or some better Evil Ryu players can actually apply this stuff in matches and look good doing it. I’m struggling because of my execution errors. It did take me 4 tries to do that axe kick combo in the video I made lol.
Oh and just so everyone knows, all of these resets work after cr.LP cr.LP cr.MP xx LK Tatsu.
That bnb builds half an EX bar when finished with reset cr.LP
The cross up MK > cr.LP > cl.HP xx MK Axe Kick > cr.MP xx LK Tatsu > cr.LP reset combo builds a full EX bar. And does 319dmg. And 485 stun.
He’s actually ridiculous
lol don’t mind that child’s post above, screaming “MNORTEX” at me and being belligerent towards everyone.
Honestly, I think E.Ryu is shittier than Akuma, but a lot better than Ryu.
E.Ryu has the potential for decent Oki, but his ability to create knockdowns is severely lacking. His Sweep is horrendous, and the recovery of the sweep doesn’t allow for the same pressure and mix-ups available to the other Shotos. I think he should be played pretty lame, with Burst Punishing on every hit-confirm. He doesn’t have the set-ups necessary to truly play aggressive, think Tokido’s Akuma to Eita’s. I guess to me he feels sort of more akin to Super Ken, since a lot of his true oki is based off of his forward throw. I think it’s his best chance at scoring knockdowns outside of CH c.strong/c.roundhouse. Well, in terms of his options gained from it. Luckily he has a great Kara-Throw and good punch normals to create space and close-mid pressure.
That said, here’s like one or two things I’ve been experimenting with. I noticed the st.Strong after F.Throw Demon Kick shit is already listed, I dunno what else has been said so I’m just gonna follow through and then read the thread haha. The Japanese seem to mix in c.Forward in place of st.Strong some times.
F.Throw, Tap Back, st.Strong, j.Roundhouse
This is a ambiguous cross-up j.Roundhouse that crosses up against the following:
Shotos: Avoids DPs, Avoids Ultras. Can Option-Select U1 for certain Punishes, same with O-S Axe Kick or Sweep.
Yun: Safe from Reversal, Avoids Ultras. Can Option-Select U1 on Yun for Up-Kick, but his only escape is reversal EX-Zesshou and he is forced to block Ultra and cannot punish.
Yang: Safe from Reversal, Avoids Ultras.
Ibuki: Safe from Reversal, Avoids Ultras.
Makoto: Loses to Reversal Jab Fukiage, beats everything else.
Gen: Safe from Reversal, Avoids Ultras.
Oni: Safe from Reversal, Avoids Ultras. Stuffs Dantojin Can Option-Select U1 or Sweep to punish.
Chun-Li: Safe from Reversal, Safe from U2. Her only escape is EX Legs, which can be O-S Swept.
Dhalsim: Can Option-Select U1 to Punish Teleports/Back-Dash. Can Option-Select RH Tatsu to punish Teleport.
Viper: Loses to reversal Thunder Knuckle, Avoids U1. Can punish EX Seismo with O-S Tatsu.SRK. If she feints immediately she is able to block this.
Dictator: Safe from Reversal, Safe from Ultra. Can O-S Tatsu or U1 to punish Teleport. O-S SRK for EX Psycho Crusher.
Sagat: Safe from Reversal, Loses to U2.
Cammy: Safe from Reversal, Loses to U2. Can O-S Sweep to Punish Super/Ultra 1.
Cody: Safe from Reversal, Safe from Ultra. Can O-S Sweep or U1 to Punish EX Zonk.
Guy: Safe from all Reversal, Safe from Ultra.
Hakan: Safe from Reversal, Loses to U2. Can O-S Sweep EX Slide(his only escape).
Guile: Safe from Reversal, Avoids Ultras.
Blanka: Safe from Reversal, stuffs Normal Up-Ball. Loses to Reversal EX Up-Ball. Avoids Ultras.
Rufus: Safe from Reversal, Loses to EX Snake Strike(1-Hit, Pixel Damage). Loses to Ultra 2.
El Fuerte: Safe from Reversal, Avoids Ultras. Only escape is EX Run which can be punished with O-S Tatsu.
Claw: Safe from Reversal, Avoids Ultras.
Fei-Long: Safe from Reversal, Loses to U2. Can O-S Tatsu to punish EX Chicken Wing(his only escape).
T.Hawk: Safe from Reversal, Avoids Ultras. Can O-S Tatsu Punish EX Reversals.
Zangief: Safe from all Reversals, Loses to Instant U2. Interesting to note, it stuffs Kick Lariat clean, and ‘falls through’ Punch Lariat Reversals.
Adon: Safe from all Reversals, Avoids Ultras.
Rose: Safe from all Reversals, Loses to U2.
Abel: Safe from all Reversals, Avoids Ultras.
Dudley: Safe from all Reversals, Avoids Ultras.
Gouken: Avoids Ultras, loses to High Counter and EX Tatsu.
Seth: Loses to MP and HP SRK. Loses to U2.
Sakura: Safe from all Reversals, Avoids Ultras.
Boxer: Safe from all Reversals, Avoids Ultras.
Juri: Safe from all Reversals, Avoids Ultras.
E.Honda: Safe from all Reversals, Avoids Ultras. *note: You must take a step back, rather than a slight tap back to cross-up Honda. Otherwise it will whiff.
Getting lazy, you can all use your imagination and should know what you can/can’t O-S punish U1/Sweep/SRK with.
There is a few more I can list tomorrow, trying to be helpful while everything is fresh.
Bonus: Don’t know if this is Boxer-specific, as I haven’t tested it on anyone else yet(that laziness). But you can do a great cross-up that’s a LOT easier to time than the one mentioned above. F.Throw, Immediately Sweep, Immediately j.Roundhouse. Crosses him up and is safe against everything, O-S punish, etc. etc.
Anyway I’ve had the game for a few hours now and haven’t put it down, so I’m gonna go play HoN or something haha. I’ll mess around and try to find out non-throw set-ups tomorrow?
My E Ryu sucks, help.
yeah im still trying to get a basic gameplan of pressure and zoning
U2 animation looks dope!
I’m finding the kara-throw really good for if you end up in the corner because you can kara-throw backwards since a command normal is not required.
has anybody found a use for his target combo? kuz i cant find anything, i guess it creates space? leaves u just outside of sweep range.
I also want to know if there is any use to his TC and I think we should start talking about Demon Axe Kick uses, because that move to me is what makes E.Ryu…DAT STUN
You can always shoot properly distanced fireballs [Where Evil Ryu recovers for a counter attacking shoryuken if they try to jump you] for starters. Find out the timing of Evil Ryu’s recovery of his fireballs and know the distance where he recovers safely to attack. I truly believe his MP and FP Shoryuken are good enough to beat anti-air’s clean when done deep enough [from crouching postition].
As for Rushdown game, this is gonna take more skill, you have to read and react properly to get in. Most people like to get close by using the low forward + Demon Stomp [QCF K] or the F MK [However be careful while using this attack I have completely missed crouching opponents while using it UP CLOSE like on a crouching M. Bison]. I like to get in with a strong ground game, while reading and reacting to the opponent by walking forward and punishing whiffed attacks or say like Scissor kicks with crouching/standing MP While walking forward. Then this gives you an oppurtunity to work mix up games on em.
How much frame advantage does he get off of LK Ryusokyaku? I’ll bet he can do some decent frame traps and mix ups after ending a combo with LK Ryuso.
What are your suggestions for kara-Raging Demon shortcuts? For regular Raging Demon, I always did lp>lp>forward+lk+hp. I know the kara is f.mk, but I was curious if you guys had other methods. I didn’t use Akuma in previous iterations of the game, so I’m not entirely sure about the inputs.
I thought everyone here said his lk version was ass-supreme?
VRyu ventures out of the Makoto forums to help the E. Ryu guys too. What a bawss.
When they rebalance this game, which they will do within 6 months (you can see Capcom already priming people for the possibility of another iteration of SSF4 in their comments reported by Eventhubs) they either need to give E.Ryu 900 health or Akuma’s teleport. Because there is no valid reason to punish him for having a ‘get out of jail free’ card when it is worse than Akuma’s who is on the same health.
That’s my only gripe. Other than that I am having the most fun with this character right now.
