Evil Ryu General Discussion: Same Ryu, but now he's pissed!

Yeah, i know that. I was saying Ryu and Akuma dps (3 frames) get stuffed. While 4+ frame dps seem to whiff entirely.

edit: Doing a little more testing it doesn’t seem to be a true meaty safe jump as the opponent can dash forward out of it. Though if the st. mp is whiffed and you jump in with cross up mk, it seems to be meaty safe jump timing and beats 4+ frame reversals and loses to 3 frame dps.

no one can safe jump on 3 frames DP because landing has 4 frame recovery

There are some characters that have setups actually, like Guile and Balrog to safe jump Ryu, don’t know if it works on Ken however since his dp travels horizontally faster.

St.mp buffered into HK stomp or LP fireball is really nice against divekicks.
If you end a combo in LK tatsu to LP srk you can time a safejump, sort of the same timing as safejumping after sweep with akuma.
Also after throw, cr.mk to divekick or crossup is really nice, the divekick is really ambiguous and often leads into cr.lp, st.hp combo, at least against people that aren’t prepared/haven’t seen it before.
Having 2 meters and hitconfirming cr.mk xx hadouken to fadc is really key to playing e.ryu imo, since his cr.mk xx hadouken gets you so close to the opponent and combos from practically maxrange you can always get atleast cr.mk xx lk tatsu after the FADC (if the opponent is standing)

Don’t know whether people know about this yet but here is something that I found that should help Evil Ryu’s mix up game a little bit. After a LK tatsu, if you reset with LP, you can dash under your opponent. Problem is that it doesn’t work on everyone and it won’t work if you use more then one normal.

Another thing to remember is that you may need to change your normal depending on the character. So instead of st. HP, you may need to use cr. MP/HP to start the tatsu reset because those normals have less push back. It’s not the vortex, but at least it’s something. I’m also experimenting with LK tatsu and then reset into dive kick or cross up. Dive kick will combo on normal/small opponents as long as you hit then right behind there neck. His dive kick is pretty good IMO, we just need to find ways to get untechable knockdowns to set up that mix up.

As for the reset, actually it was a friend that suggested it to me when Evil Ryu was unveiled and he saw how good his dash was. He said that it might where it doesn’t with Akuma because Akuma’s dash is ass. Here you go

There’s characters where cr.LP cr.LP cl.HP will work completely randomly on. It’s really frustrating.

Same with cr.LP cr.LP cr.MP xx Fireball > FADC > cl.HP

st.HP for throws. You are just cancelling the f+MK into Super rather than doing a true instant kara cancel.

It’s possible to safe jump characters with DPs, but it works differently in comparison to the usual safe jumps you often see.

No, he’s talking about setups a few characters have. Like Rog. He’ll back throw Ryu, dash forward, jump and use hp(i think). This whiffs if Ryu does nothing, but if he tries to dp it, the dp get’s stuff. It works like this because of the spacing. Ryu’s dp is active on the third frame, but Rog is far enough away that you don’t hit him on the third frame. You reach him on the 5th or 6th frame, when you’re not invincible anymore and get stuffed.

this is not safejump. safe jump must hit if ryu does nothing not whiff.

okay guys.i have some mixups off of the LK tatsu to cr.LP reset.

You can reset to crossup and go for cl.HP,mk DS,cr.MP,LK tatsu,Fierce SRK or another reset mixup.

you can also reset to dive kick for psuedo crossup.

once you have conditioned your opponent with these crossup mixups you can empty jump,this will make you land behind your opponent,and most ppls reaction when you empty jump over them is to throw so you can try DP FADC to w/e.

Also on some characters(im not sure who you can and cant do it on) you can reset then dash under your opponent.From here you can go for cl.HP,mk DS,cr.MP,LK tatsu,Fierce SRK or another reset. You can also dash under throw or SRK.

EDIT: okay i tested more extensively,if you reset after cl.HP,mk DS,cr.MP,LK tatsu,you cant dash under on any hit box ive tried so far.On wide hitboxes(sagat for instance) if you use cl.HP,mk DS,cr.MP,LK tatsu,then reset you cant jump over for crossup.For sagat you can replace cr.MP with cr.LP,or step forward a bit to be able jump over and crossup.On Abel you can use the cr.MP and still crossup.On T.Hawk you HAVE TO step forward a bit to crossup.

E. Ryu’s Frame Data
Because I couldn’t find any solid frame data, I started my own list off. I’ve spent a good amount of time testing this out so far using a lot of different characters and repeating the tests many times for each move. Where I’ve put two figures (+1/+3), it means I’ve not bothered to work it out because it’s probably not the most important information. It’s only the basic stuff but it’s a good point of reference:

E.Ryu can tatsu sweep Balrog, Dhalsim, and Cammy. I’m sure there are a couple more, but I was too lazy and just picked the characters who had a large gap between them and the ground after getting hit by lk tatsu and who could be swept by Akuma.

Being able to end your BnB with a hard knockdown on Balrog and Dhalsim is pretty amazing considering how bad their wakeup game is.
