Not that it at-all automatically implies the use of censorship, but Eventhubs has seemingly been contracted by Microsoft to promote the new KI right from its first reveal.
A friend pointed out to me that virtually all of their early KI articles refer to KI specifically using the phrase “Killer Instinct on Xbox One” or “Killer Instinct on the Xbox One,” and often in the article headline. The other very marketing-department phrase that I noticed they use repeatedly is “the upcoming Xbox One exclusive” or “the upcoming Xbox One exclusive game.” To me, the phrases themselves are slightly conspicuous, but the consistency of their use is comically gratuitous.
I think it’s a bit silly to think that there is anything morally or ethically wrong about any of this, but I will say that a paid endorsement of this nature severely erodes journalistic credibility, and that any censorship of an “open” discussion collapses the integrity of the discussion.
But really though, I think mostly everyone here already knows that this isn’t the first time Eventhubs has made themselves look bad.
In all fairness Eventhub coverage is significantly faster than SRK’s front page by hours and sometimes days. They used to be shitty but they’ve put in work to clean a lot of stuff up. On top of it all, the writers will fix their “articles” based on comment feedback and do it regularly. Both EH and srk front are still ass; but the reasons why they are ass have nothing to do with their “news.”
But meh about the xbone, if you bought into the original and the 360, you were the problem.
Honestly though, its stupid and counter-productive to hate on the game before it even releases. At least post negative shit after you’ve actually played the game.
