Even more KOFXII Screens: AKA Capcom facepalm imminent

PS2 should be able to handle the game, because MI2 is on the same board and it came for PS2. I think it’s loss on playmore to not port it on ps2.

I’m not sure about that. I can think of a few flawed 2-D game ports for PS2. The PS2 just doesn’t collaborate well with certain 2-D games sometimes. I think SNK wants a next gen release to make the game look fresher and such. I think this game also displays 480P which the PS2 can’t display(I think).

A PS2 port would be sweet though.

It can. As crappy as the sprites look I really can’t see it on the PS2. Maybe PSN and Xbox live.

Since GG series pretty much were spot on when it comes to PS2 ports, I can probably call the flawed ports on Playmore’s lazy asses, instead of system capabilities.

Why aren’t you banned for trolling yet?

Anyways there is no way this is gonna be anything less than 720p…

Crappy sprites? Are you sure you are ok?

The screens they’re showing are. . .

 April fools.

Fucking troll. Go whack off to Sakura in SF IV. You don’t see any of the people from this thread running around the SF IV forum crying about how much we don’t like the game. You troll every single thread and preach SF IV.

Do you actually play fighting games or do you just come here for shits and giggles?

looks nice, can’t wait to play it

SFIV? Sakura? Wanking? What? Random, but sign me up anyways.

KOFXII’s graphics are 720p.

So were all the screenshots we saw of SFIV for like the first month or two. Japanese sites are terrible about showing screens in their original resolution. Your point?

First SFIV screens were in 720p. I believe 1UP was the first to show them. Why the hell does everyone keep bringing up SFIV, lol?

I’m just saying it’s in the realm of possibility. It could be upscaled 720p. SNK doesn’t really have any sort of track record here as far as I know.

I didn’t think this before i saw the high-res scans, but these sprites blow even the SF3 sprites away:

KOFMIA is on Taito Type X.

KOFXII is on Taito Type X2, which is a next-gen HD board. KOFXII is a 1280 x 720 game, even the Wii wouldn’t handle it. Famitsu and Arcadia confirmed it’s real 720p.

well, so far the only thing im wondering about is will the animation be as consistent as SF3, and some of these sprites look pretty fucked up. for some reason capcom, and especially snk§ do a shitty job of making the characters look good while their getting knocked away. just look at these scans. first look at how good the characters look when attacking. then look at how shitty they look when they get knocked away. one thing i didn’t like from the trailer, when ash is moving his arm in front of kyo during their intro and we see ash moving his arm, theres like 3 frames of animation for all that distance the arm covers. meaning its animated way below sf3 some times. i hope they fix this. like i sf3 there are almost no instances where the animation drops (cept some win poses like dudley), and it shouldnt be in a new nex gen kof game IMO. just hire some koreans to do it for you.

I don’t see any problem in how the characters look when hit. Terry looks just as good being hit as in his idle stance, same for Kyo.

Nothing in the KOFXII trailer struck me as badly animated, on the contrary. It ranged from regular KOF animation to Garou-level animation.

And man… no game animates as nicely as SF3. Expecting SF3-level animation here is setting yourself for dissapointment, specially since the smallest KOF still had a larger cast than 3s.

Frankly, even if this animates exactly like KOF 96-XI, it’ll be perfectly fine. I mean, people are fine with fucking Guilty Gear, which is by far the choppiest mainstream fighting series.

Actually, KOF:MIA IS on the Taito X2. You just wouldn’t know it, based on the fact that the game really doesn’t push the power of the hardware (not unlike SS SEN/Edge of Destiny). Yet, both MIA and SEN are still technically HD-quality games, because the native resolution of the arcade version is “real 720p”, as well.

But, in the end, the resolution that the game puts out is not really the main issue, it’s the kind of RAM the game needs to render all of those frames of animation and other graphical effects. If SNK could find a means to make it so that the PS2 and Wii could render a downscaled version of the game (at standard/progressive resolution, like KOFMI), they’ll make it happen.

Hell, part of me expects that something like that will probably come to pass any way, because SNK doesn’t want to just throw away the larger part of their fanbase that hasn’t moved beyond PS2, or possess Wiis.

^
That is somewhat true, but if the PS3 user base keeps growing in Japan by the time KOFXII recieves a home port, they might just drop it there. I suspect the earliest we might see it will be late 2009. Although I wouldn’t count out any system at this point except maybe a 360 version that doesn’t use Live and isn’t released in America.

As for how KOFXII will animate, I still say it is to soon judge it. We’ve seen what 2-3 backgrounds and a handful of characters, in brief clips and screens. Still I wouldn’t expect this to be the best animated fighting game in history, I mean it would take the game until 2011 and have only tweleve characters for the animation to be true top notch stuff.

Very much a possibility.

It’s just that to me, as long as a number of other companies (including Sony themselves) are poised to support the PS2 until possibly 2010, why not make sure you keep exploiting it until the proverbial well runs completely dry? It only serves to cover all your bases, and you’re more than likely STILL going to make money, which is the most important thing.

I mean, let’s face it: PS3 stands to finally get a nice boost by the time the likes of MGS4 and FFXIII, but it still can’t hope to compare with the sheer numbers of the PS2 installed base. None of the current-gen consoles can, not even the Wii. And SNK wants to make sure this new game sells as well as possible. What better way to insure that than by releasing a version of the game for the console that most people stand to have?

I can’t stress it enough; if SNK wants this game to reach the largest audience possible, they’ll make it as readily accessible as possible.

does anyone know how they implemented real time lighting on the sprites? That shit sounds amazing as fuck to me.
