Congratulations to watSMQisCookin for winning 1st place, and congrats to Bogeuk for 2nd place.
This tournament structure is not viable for any ranking apart from the top 2 I’m afraid, so please don’t read too much into any “placements” below that.
Good games to all!
It was a lotta fun to run, although VERY hectic for me, but it was just what I expected. I hope everyone had fun.
As things went well and this seemed to be more popular than pool play, I will be doing more of this kind of event in future. The whole thing took about 2.5 hours and that was with delaying things so that ScarGfx 360 could video extra matches as well. This means that doing it 3 of 5 rounds would also be possible on a weeknight for me. On a weekend with these kinds of numbers, it might also be possible to do 2-of-3, 2-of-3 format I ran in the Pools (which I prefer as it allows people to change characters in a single match) but I wanted to test the water with single 3-of-5s first.
ScarGfx 360 will be along with videos of these matches later, and I will add links to the posts above so you can watch them!
I am also very interested in running “Newbies only” tournaments. So if any of you have friends that would like to play more SF2 but don’t think they can enter tournaments because the competition is too high, then let me know what you think. I know I have a few friends that might be interested in it.
CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP
I didn’t pass my exams last week so I was studying for my second change exams for this week and this totally slipped my mind. Good stuff though Remy and again, sorry.
Yeah it was a real shame you two weren’t around Ah well! It went well… so, there will be more!
(oh and your exams are kinda more important dude, I’m glad you weren’t worrying about this! ^_^)
bah! I can’t spam everyone with updates on XBL as I’ve reached the “messages to friends” daily limit! hahahah. I didn’t know there was one Running this is too much for XBL it seems
I just wondered where Fulaani was^^
Congrats to Remy. I find it was a great tournament. And I am looking forward to see more of them
Fantastic tourney Remy and contrats to SMQ for giving us a good showing.
Videos are being rendered as we speak, hopefully the majority will be done by tonight - but at the latest tomorrow morning.
Haha, I can just imagine.
Nice stuff guys. Shame Fuulani and Shari wasn’t around. Isn’t quite the same without those guys. I was really interested to see who would be in the later stages and moreover, the winner.
I’m really gutted I couldn’t be in this one. I actually feel like I might have had a chance. Unfortunately I’m away from home this weekend.
Surprised that Dav lost to Bogeuk. I feel that Tschesae has the stronger DeeJay (of him and Bogeuk) and that if Dav was able to win that match, that he should have won the other. May sound like sour grapes, but Bogeuk regularly gets called out for turbo, so I wonder if that affected the match. Last time I played Bogeuk, I beat him 3 times running and he quit, and I have to admit that I suspected turbo too.
Too bad it’s impossible to police online tournaments to ensure fair play.
Anyhow, my only suggestion or input would be how about presenting the results in a bracket format with the characters used? Should just make for easier reading.
Can’t wait for the footage. This is great. Nice job Remy.
Ah and forget about the Akuma stuff, that was a misunderstanding.
edit: Great tournament even though I got pretty angry at myself for throwing away the 4. Round Losers.
Thanks Zero1 and everyone else. I appreciate you all saying thanks
You’re right about the policing - it is not possible completely the way it is in offline tournaments. What I can do is the XBL thing and if people complain about anyone, I will take a note of it, and if someone gets regular complaints then I’ll have to do something about it. But there were no problems at all for running this one. No complaints were raised by anyone. Also, I was watching certain matches and ScarGfx was videoing many more, so well, if someone was cheating they wouldn’t get away with it for long.
As for the X can beat Y so should beat Z stuff… haha, it never really works out like that, especially in a single match. It’s not really a good way to rank people at all, like I say. But it is a lotta fun still
Full bracket diagram is on its way, I just haven’t had time tonight to do it up.
As for characters, quite a lot of people were changing characters between rounds so it was a bit tough to say. Quite a few people did report which characters they used though, but it was too much for me to record it all. I do know that SMQ played Boxer, Ken and Ryu in various matches I saw. Scar played pure Boxer and Bogeuk played pure DeeJay from what I saw. Th Gimp played Ken and Fei Long.
Yeah I was kind of surprised at that. What happened? Did he use Akuma or did you use someone else/try a different gameplan?
Also it’s been a while since I played Gimp. Surprised he’s using Ken. Ryu would be the natural choice seeing as he mains Akuma. Thumbs up for learning Fei though.
I’m sure I’ve played Scar before, but nothing springs to mind. For some reason I had him down as a Gief player.
To respond to Zero, I don’t think BogeUK uses turbo. Not sure what made you suspicious but if his rapidfire jabs have anything to do with it, that stuff is mad easy on stick. As for his sportsmanship, I never had any issues with him.
And Remy, again sorry. I hope there is a next time.
Yeah… I don’t really want to get into anything, cos even if someone DID have a bad reputation, they have a clean slate in any online events I run until proven otherwise.
However I’ve played and chatted with Bogeuk for a long time, and I’ve never heard anything about turbo. The man’s a serious SF2 fan - he has his own ST cab!
Fulaani - don’t worry! I want to do more, 25th is looking good for me, but I can’t confirm it yet.
I’m wondering if I should try and play in them myself though, as it is VERY hard to do so, and also slows things down a fair bit - although stopping to arrange video matches slows it down more, however it’ll be worth it. Can’t wait to see ScarGfx’s work… please show your appreciation for his vids, because he’s got far more work than me to do now!
GGs to everyone I played yesterday, it teaches me I’ve still a lot of work to do before being able to compete with best players, but I had a lot of fun. Thanks to Remy77077 too, you did a good job from my player side, as usual.
Congrats to SMQ and BogeUK, you did a nice job ! That’s sad Fulaani and Shari could not participate I would have been interested in seeing their results in this tourney too. :karate:
Nice to meet new challengers for me too, it’s always very instructive. And whereas I played several times BogeUK yesterday, I don’t think he was using turbo at all but a clean and smart DeeJay.
See ya next time !
Well I probably shouldn’t have started accusing Bogeuk of stuff seeing as there weren’t any real problems, but you guys know I get paranoid about turbo. SMQ is also of the opinion that he uses turbo, so I know it’s not just me. How much weight his opinion carries though, I don’t know because he did semi accuse me of using turbo one time, and anyone who knows me knows (Not a great video, but wanted to show Rob that my execution was a bit better now because the Dpad on my old pad was dying).
Anyway, enough with the negative stuff. Can’t wait for the videos.
Sure, Dav35 is also a regular X360 controler user, but many (lame) loosers blame him for using turbos (especially on his raging knee bash), they have to see it to believe it, lol
