European SF2HDR Double Elimination XBox Live Tournament #3

This may be my last “all comers” online tournament I organise as I would rather focus on events for new players after this - more on that later. But hopefully a lot of people can make this on a weeknight and it should be fun

As usual this is only open to European XBox Live players. If you’re in America and are interested in playing something like this, please check out the WWL instead!

When: Tuesday 1st June, 7pm (19:00 GMT) start. Last time this took about 2.5 hours, but it could take longer, so please be committed to play late into the evening if necessary due to numbers.
As with last time, if you are not on XBL at the start time, I will consider you to have dropped from the tournament.

Location: XBox Live

Signups:

Signup by Mon 31st May by posting here to participate, or also by commenting on the duplicate post of this at the SRK forums here, or by messaging me over XBL. Please do not signup until you are 100% sure you can play on the date/time above.

Some late signups on the night MAY be allowed, but I cannot guarantee it at this time, it will depend on number of entrants.

Format:

Standard Double Elimination format. The number of signups will decide the exact nature of the event. Assuming we get 16 players or less, there will be a 16 player double-elimination bracket with first round Byes assigned as necessary by seeding according to players’ previous performance in the HDR Fortnightly Pools and the previous tournament.

I will send an XBL message each round to all players as to who they are to play next. Tournament rounds after the first will be arranged by XBL messaging. Ie: You will receive an XBL message each tournament round as to who you are to play next.

Each match will be a single best 3 of 5 rounds game (ie: the standard HDR “Ranked Match” setting).
All settings must be on default.
Akuma (Gouki, Demon) is banned.
You can pick any character to play (ie: the standard HDR blind pick). You are free to change character between rounds if you wish.
‘Turbo’ functions on joysticks or controllers are banned.

I recommend using a private 2-player match room on XBL. I will attempt to add all participants to my my XBL Friends List (which is visible) and also to the SF2HDR EU account Friends List so you should be able to find each other and invite each other into games easily.

Reporting Results:

Once your match is completed, BOTH participants must report their results over XBL message to me. All results will collated and later be posted here. Sadly I have not found a good way I can possibly report in real-time whilst also keeping the rounds running smoothly.

As usual, I only need to know who won and who lost, but if you want to report game-round scores or characters used etc, go ahead. If I only get a single report I will consider it accurate (eg: only the winner reports).

In the event people do not play, or there are discrepancies and disagreement in the results reported (or not reported), or any other kind of complaint reported, I will attempt to manage that. Worst case scenario I will have to void the whole event if players do not co-operate, but as hopefully most players will know each other from the HDR Pools & previous events, so we won’t have any problems. I’m glad to say that no problems were reported last two times.

Each tournament round (especially if I am not participating due to numbers, or due to having being knocked out!) certain matches will be highlighted to be observed by me, or if possible to be videoed by ScarGfx 360 (ie: I will create a private player room with either 3 or 4 slots, and invite the participants in). I will post all results and links to any videos later. Any videos will be posted at the the SF2 Europe youtube channel.

Good luck and good games!

And the full results as a picture

Less players than the last couple of times, it seems weekend is definitely better for most folks. Although some people just missed it by being late and I had a couple more ppl message me wanting to play too late as well.

I’m going to compile some more results and run a tournament for new players only in the next couple of weeks I think on a weekend.

I suspect most people are busy with Street Fighter IV. I know a few so called die hard ST/HDR players who haven’t played HDR since SuperIV was released.

Yeah that certainly affects a few people Zero1. SSFIV is still very new though “not played since released” isn’t a very long time.

However the HDR lobbies seemed to be on fire last night - I’ve not seen it so busy in ages.

Wat? Why is SMQ not on the bracket? He was online and playing HDR that night ?

good stuff guys, sorry I didn’t enter. I’ve been on GGPO for a bit.

Garou is too sick!

Tschesae - good to chat with you after this as well, thanks for saying thanks too! It makes it all worth it  SMQ didn’t turn up until 10 mins late, we’d already played the 1st round. It would make a real mess of the tournament to change it to a 9 bracket. 9 brackets are kinda crappy anyway as 2 people get screwed over with an extra match. I’d have dropped for SMQ to keep it at 8 if he’d been on.

Fulaani - I kinda like Garou actually but I can’t play it for crap at high levels - it kinda feels like 3S for me - too technical yet kinda dull at higher levels - great fun when it’s noob vs noob tho.

Garou is tons of fun.

All my friends that i got into it quit though cause i kept picking Grant and doing different versions of to them.

Seriously the guy has so many ways into that insane combo.
