Over the last two days the European Console League have released two announcements regarding their new sponsor, and the results of the discussion on the prize distribution.

The ECL can announce that Gamestation will be the headline sponsor for the inaugural event that is taking place from July 30 to August 1.

Ben Woodward, SG Gaming Managing Director, commented:

"The first European Console League event is turning into something rather special with the addition of Gamestation as a sponsor. This is big news not just for The ECL but for the scene as a whole."
Dean Shaw, Local Marketing Manager for Gamestation added:

"We’re truly excited to be working with The European Console League and we have high hopes for this event. Gaming is everything to our customers and we are sure that they will make this event a success."
Next, is the Prize distribution, taken from the ECL site:

The ECL will be revising the prize distribution for the Liverpool event for all games involved. The ECL would like to make it clear that the minimum prize fund remains at £25,000 pounds.

Each game will receive a minimum of £2500 pounds regardless of its turnout. The Halo 3 FFA and CoD 4 FFA will each receive a minimum of £500 pounds. In order to ensure fairness with regards to the final turnouts of each game, the remaining £11,500 pounds that is not allocated will then be distributed based on the individual player sign ups of each game.

Depending on the turnout of each game, we will also be looking to distribute the prizes further than the top 3 positions.

The final allocation will be announced before the event begins, so it is important that players purchase their tickets as soon as possible in order to give the best possible backing to their game.

Once again, the ECL would like to stress that we are not reducing the overall prize fund for the event but are changing its distribution in order to make it fair for everyone involved.
