Eternal Fighter Zero

Mayu’s Overdrive is 23693C. You can’t really do that strait on the ground because you will jump in the mean time (unless there are a few frames of jump startup, but I haven’t noticed such a thing in this game). Some good setups for doing it are landing from a jump, doing a forwards dash, in the middle of a combo, or on wakeup.

The AI is pretty predictable bellreisa… especially Mayu (who only really does 2 things). If she starts flying around on the walls repeatedly, you can keep summoning tornados to hit her out of the air. If she does that thing where she dashes and does a light hit over and over, you can actually do an A inbetween hits. So, when she starts doing that, just do: A B > jc.A B C. Once you can stop those two things, you’ve basically got AI Mayu beat.

Is the Touhou fighter released yet (full version)? The demo was neat, but the screenshots I see on the site have a lot of extra meters and such, which leads me to believe that there’s newer versions out somewhere.

You need to do it on wake up, or using a moves’ recovery time to input.

Touhou full is to be released at C67, which is soon. Those shots were taken from the latest version.

I’ve beaten the Mayu AI because of its predictability, yes, but the point stands that in the hands of someone competent Mayu can beast.

I Shall Be That Beast.

>:o!!!

You have to beat my “bottom of the barrel” Mishio first. ;p

Does anyone know the character count for Touhou yet? I’ve only seen the 6 characters they’ve shown off so far, but that’s a really shabby cast for a fighting game.
Part of the problem I had with it was the combo system was generally pretty boring, characters didn’t have enough moves, and the characters weren’t diverse enough. I hope they really tune it up to be more EFZ like… I really love the graphics of the game (and I’m a fan of the Touhou series as it is).

They’ll probably patch them in later like with EFZ. 6 seems to be it for now: Reimu, Sakuya, Youmu, Patchouli, Marisa, Alice. There’s also signs of EFZ’s juggle bar and Instant Charge in the game, but neither were fully developed, at least not in the C66 demo.

One more thing, in the TTT2 trailer there’s a segment with Minagi ducking under projectiles. I’ve seen some characters do dodge as well, is this a command of some sort or a particular move?

That’s her 2B. Some character’s move are low enough, just like Chun Li’s crouching strong in 3S/CvS2

Random thing: For an example of Mayu’s hidden super at work, the TTT2 trailer has this one clip of Mayu vs. Shiori where Mayu does something like 2A > 2A > 5S > 5H, pause (probably buffering the input), hidden super.
Just so you can see how it works, though the idea is fairly obvious.

I wonder if you could do it REALLY fast on a stick or something… probably not but meh, that’d be cool.

You can do it really fast on anything… the minimum input is going to be about 6F (although 5F is theoretical).
As well, you can also hold 3 and then hit the button slightly late to throw off the other person (bait out an attack or something). I’m pretty sure they can just jump out of the super, unless it’s something like Hugo’s Gigas Breaker. I’ll take a look at the frame data later, once I get out of retardo-linux. ;p

It is not shown in the TTT2 video, but the super has two variations:

  • Opponent is close, regular command grab.
  • Opponent is far, Mayu does a small leap. The leap is invincible, and it can grab you anywhere in the arc.

As long as the opponent is in the ground the super hits.

Yeah, I checked it out. If you do it within command throw range, it has 1F startup, which essentially makes it a Gigas Breaker. You can’t jump out of it if the superflash has already happened. You can jump out if it isn’t within command grab range.

That makes that an incredibly dangerous super.

What program do I need to run these files…they don’t look like video files. Does anyone just have some natural downloadable footage of it?

Those are EFZ replay files. You need to put them in the replay directory and then use the replay option in the main screen.

Ohhh it’s for the PC…man who the hell would put a hardcore fighting game on the PC. This needs to come out for PS2 or Xbox. Is it out in arcades at least like Melty Blood is?

Because the PC is a free market, and doesn’t require a million dollars to pay for the development kit or licences from Sony/Whoever. There is an arcade version of EFZ, from what I have heard, but good luck finding it. People seem to like MBR more than this game.

Here’s some replays for you guys to make fun of.

I’m Mayu or Mishio on the first page. Otherwise I’m the guy who’s NOT Makoto on the second and third pages.

The guys on the first page are friends I play at school, the second and third is of myself and a friend last night, who had been practicing for a while, and just got a laptop (hence the replays). Said is one I play regularly in most every other fighter too.

As a warning, I get my ass kicked all over the place on the second and third page (PLUS I SUCK!), but that’s ok with me. Wasn’t used to someone rushing me down and trapping well. Going to rethink using Mayu excusively, leaving me to hunt a down the right girl again. Anyways, if you have any tips on how to better fare against Makoto, do tell.

I’m excited now that I have someone I can continously play EFZ in. Feels good.

Oh, ignore the last replay. Kinda fell asleep there.

;D

You’ll never get good if you switch characters forever… gotta pick and stick at some point. If you find you are losing with one character, you should concider learning ways to beat out what you are losing against, and not try and find a better matchup.

Now time for the harsh critique (of the Mayu VS Makoto match)
First of all, that Makoto had no mixup. Period. You could have sat there and blocked low the entire match and never gotten hit (other than the times she jumped in the air). The Makoto has one of the best overheads in the game (6B), and she should be regularly using that in mixups. She’s probably hitting you so often because she is poking you out of your moves, so you should probably be a lot more reserved when you attack her.
As for you… stop dropping combos! Every time Makoto hits you, she at least knocks you down. You several times just tap toes and stop hitting. At the very worst, every time you connect a 2A, follow up with 2B 2C to knock down. If you are closer, just do 2A 2B C 236A A.
Second, Mayu really seems to be the Potemkin of this game (who knew). She has pretty much no high-low game (she has no standing overheads, and neither her 664A/B/C attacks nor her 6B are overheads for some reason), and her crossups are weak. SO, you should rely on mixing up between low hits and her 41236 command throw. Trust me on this, but that command throw is pretty hard to see coming. Likewise, you get some sort of free combo off the command throw, so learn whatever you can off of it (you should get at least 1700 damage for free). Also use her 41236S command grab as well… that one is VERY fast and impossible to see coming.
Next, use the HPB (641236). If the enemy is afraid to jump, you’ve got good control of the match. I don’t know how invincible that super is, but it’s a good idea to learn what you can do with it.
Finally, learn a/the corner loop. Should be able to milk around 4000-5000 damage off an RIC in the corner. I know a few setups/combos if you want them.

I know, I know. I just enjoying playing with all the characters, and it’s just that hard for me to find someone I’m comfortable with. I know my playstyle (long range, but able to keep away and rushdown) and that’s pretty much Mio right there, but I keep seeing potential in other characters.

Anyways, thanks for the critique. Harsh or not, it’s warranted, and greatly appreciate it. My biggest problem is not being able to do much when she’s in the air, so I’ll see what I can do with your advice.

Thanks.

Ooh ooh, critique my matches too!

Three Ayu matches in arcade mode.

Ayu Versus Mai

Yeah I know my execution is pretty random, any advice on strategy would be appreciated. Especially versus Mai who just zones me easily unless I really turtle and try and bait it. Oh and if there’s a way to make replays vs the CPU lemme know that too.

Edit again: These are avis for those curious about EFZ. But the links will die after so many dls or a week, whichever happens first.

Honestly I’d say a bit more patience, tiny bit more refinement in your execution, and quicker reaction when recoiling.

But what do I know? I sucky.
