Estarburst is listening... we hope

OK after a talk with Marc (Coveguy) we’re going to be moving forward with a lot of changes to the GTASF. When things have been ironed out, they’ll all be announced. In the meantime, this thread has been created for everyone to give their input into what changes and/or fixes they feel needs to be made to any location under the Estarburst banner (ORBIT, York Cove, Mohawk Cove, Waterloo Cove). The suggestions will be noted and changes effected as resources become available.

As an aside, anyone that was at York U knows exactly how much Marc is willing to sacrifice to make this scene work and keep players happy. Do him the respect of giving him honest opinions and good suggestions so he can do his job to the best of his ability.

-#R at ORBIT (right now!)

-#R at wherever T6 is gonna be

-Cove at UofT (if it requires a sacrifice, close down Mohawk cove and open up at UofT…where the hell is Mohawk anywho??)
I’ll assume UofT people are richer, thus more business + lots of fobs and fobs love games.

-a cabinet of SFII at orbit (the VERY VERY FIRST street fighter fighting game)

K.Thnx.

get rid of KOTF at York U … we just throw our garbage on that machine and never pick it up.

Oh and of course put something better instead …

Marc did more than what we’d usually get from a normal tournament. He made shit happen!

#r! and sfex3. Fix the sticks on 300in1 cab.

Now that I have some time…

GGXX #R is a top priority. The players have been asking for this game for months (maybe even a year?) and nothing has come of it. It’s creating a situation where the GG players don’t even want to play it anymore because everyone else is on #R and we’re still stuck with GGXX.

The ORBIT cabinets need their speakers fixed. All of them.

King Of Fighters needs to be updated at both York and ORBIT. 2003? Neo Wave?

It’d be nice to get the sticks and buttons fixed on the 300 in 1 cabinet at ORBIT.

While I’m here…

I tried to do this after T5 but the disaster that was Woodbine in September made me realize that I couldn’t walk away as tournament organizer because no one could do it properly. Well with Marc taking the reigns at ORBIT and York U and the fact that its come to light that a multitude of players think that I only direct tournaments just to rig the brackets for myself, I’m stepping down as tournament organizer. I will no longer organize or help organize any tournament outside of T6 and will not volunteer my services to direct any tournament from this point forward.

I’m still going to play in tournaments because I enjoy CvS2 and am starting to play Reload but if my directing is causing conflicts then I’m not going to have a part of it. Thanks to those of you who supported me, I do appreciate it.

On a related note, I’m absolving myself from the Skybox tournament I was putting together on the same day as Eric’s ORBIT tournament.

!

Uh uh, no way.

2003 is fucken garbage. Neo Wave has issues as well. I say they wait and get Rumble Fish 2. Let me say it again, SfEX3. Get a tv and ps2.

Turn all that horse shit into monitors. Gt4 networked

This takes priority above anything. ANYTHING!

Well that sucks Justin. Even though I haven’t been an active member of the scene for a while, you basically kept it alive and kicking for a while.
If you don’t organize tournaments, everyone else is gonna get lazy(Except maybe Eric), and it’ll just die back down to previous levels.
The efforts of the guys at the Cove are appreciated, but it will just be efforts restricted TO the cove.
Meh. Hopefully this will be like your previous retirement.

It’s more like, everyone is already lazy except Eric and I, since currently, we’re the only ones(outside of staff) with an initiative to organize tournies, now that Justin and KofN(IIRC he organized T4) have both quit. This is from my time in the scene btw, so I don’t really know who were the very first who started organizing.

Anyways, Justin I hope you reconsider. If people are simply complaining about brackets, which I had already heard by a few people, then you should be more serious and just take another approach when creating the brackets. Just ask for input so people don’t complain. I myself have Stephen do the brackets with me for GGXX always so that there’s no complaining since the brackets haven’t been created under the bias of one individual.

Anyway let’s keep this thread related to it’s topic, so at least our arcades can improve and attract more players.

rumble fsh 2 make it happen

This isn’t about bias, this is about winning. See the people complaining to Eric are the ones with this self inflated sense that they’re better than they are and they should be ranked higher than they are. You don’t even have to name any names, just use your brain for five seconds and figure it out.

The ranks are based from Woodbine going forward to the York U tournament and have always reflected that. For all the people that bitch and moan that I “rig brackets” just take a look at my rankings since September. Outside of York U, I had ranked between 3rd and 5th in every tournament I entered (Woodbine, METRO, NLD3, unbeaten at Christmas ORBIT before time problems which was a guaranteed fifth, both Skybox Sunday tournies). But in the meantime, people who get a middle of the pack ranking because they get middle of the pack results at the end of the day are the same ones who bitch and moan that they should have been seeded and that “scrubs like Justin” rig it for themselves. Well when you win your matches, you get the rank.

Gerjay worked his way up through ranks over the course of this season and he was ranked 3rd at York U. Bryan worked his way through CvS2 from near the bottom and he was ranked 7th at York U and was set to be ranked 6th at METRO. Jaime from Hamilton busted ass this season and went from bottom of the ranks facing Roger in the first round to just below seeding. His placing at York U would have moved him up again at his next tourney as he came 7th. I take all of this stuff into account.

It’s not just some random “well he’s good and OOOOHHHH he can combo WOW!” that gets people placed. You rank if you win and you get the hard way when you don’t. When I wasn’t directing I went through one obstacle after another in Eric’s tournaments. You have to love “Oh, he’s better than you, you’ll never beat him sorry” before you’ve even played your first match. Too bad I busted up everyone I dealt with in the meantime (except Ken who I couldn’t beat, props to him). In any case, the whiners will never get it. They’ll only whine because that’s what they always do.

-sound for the 3S cab

-playstation ports on all the cabs

-Fri night small tourneys

-Diet coke in the fridge

I say let the best players make the fucking brackets.

That means. . .

Jay or other top tier tosf players make 3s brackets

Roger or Js makes CvS2 brackets

Bry / GerJay make MvC2 brackets

and although it doesn’t effect me Sapphire or that Rock2k1 guy make GGXX brackets.

No one can say shit cause these players can beat anybody in these respected games, eliminating any possibility for biased bracket making.

Oh ya and for sauga people, if anyone actually WANTS to have a tournament, I’m sure gerjay or myself could do it. Personally sauga sucks for tournaments cause the machines dont work so who really cares.

well justin, theres 1 down. U don’t need top players to make the brackets man. Shawn made brackets for almost all the tournys at va/vf and they always ran smoothly. All u need is a few ppl who have been in the comunity long enough and knows the players. Being a top ranked player means shit. If we go by your nonsense, mwc, ecc9, nec AND evo are all done wrong cuz the organizers are average players.

They are listening… just it’ll take them 1346346575475 years to respond… mind you they are improving. trust me everyone at starburst is trying their hardest to make shit good for the gamers… i know i work for them… Mohawk cove bugged Simon for CVS2 and now he’s gonna steal Waterloo’s CVS2 machine and give it to us :> aslong as we get good revenue… whcih we definitly will. and closing down Mohawk Cove?? that would be stupid… then Hamilton players would have nowhere to go… and Toronto already has like atleast 3 big arcades. In any case, Simon will probably get around to the requests soon enough if you bug him enough.

RXS

brackets have nothing to do with the topic of the thread. Let’s try not to take this thread off topic.

Nonsense? I dont think its “Nonsense”. I just offered an idea so no one can complains. Let JS make the brackets then, hes been around forever and plays every game. And if you think about my solution, the best players obviously have been in the community a long time so you’re point is kind of moot anyways.

So if JWong came to one of our tourneys, should he make the brackets?

I just hope T6 isn’t at orbit again. I liked YorkU, there was a ton of room and with some cabinet switches it won’t be half as congested as Orbit.

I was thinking American MvC2 machines would be less of a hassle, because bringing in more jap marvel machines would be useless unless all the chars are already locked. I’ve alreayd seen two marvel machines put in at mohwak and yorku, and it’s a pain unlocking all the chars unless people play it a lot. And the scene isn’t that great as it is.

ya lets just ignore the fact the major us tourny directors are average at best and have been around since forever. Also, in the past when Js was running mvc2/cvs2 tournies, there were still ppl who bitched over and over saying he rigged the brackets. Hell i still remember u bitching about a mvc2 bracket i made in the past too. My point is theres gonna be a bunch of whiners and bitches no matter who makes the brackets.

Teddy: I think ryan and will tried to get orbit to bring in some american cabs for one of the T tournies and i heard it went to shit. I’m not too sure but i think orbit agreed but never produced. And i agree with having T6 at york too cuz its close to the highway, theres a good food section (popeyes bitches) and parking is free after 10:30/11 oh yeah, we can play some lan games in my lab COD BITCHES MOP THE FLOOOOOOR GORD&ANDY!!!
