I’m having a bit of trouble escaping from blockstrings with Abel, i’ve heard that his backdash isn’t very good so it should be used sparringly.
I’m perfectly capable of escaping blockstrings when I have metre for ex attacks, but thats not always the situation.
What effective methods do I have for escaping blockstring as Abel?
Is neutral jumping effective, should I back dash?
I’m really not sure what my best options are. Which is really frustrating because my offensive game is quite good and I’m pretty good at spacing too. But the second the enemy get me in a blockstring, I can’t seem to escape.
Sometimes I try option selecting, but this is pretty inconsistent in terms of who it works on.
Any help?
Sorta depends on the match up. Ex roll/TT are good sparingly as most reversals, but they both lose to throws, throwing loses to backdash. You have to use all option available and mix up. Also, just blocking helps a lot, they will push themselves out of range eventually and just learn to crouch tech.
Block.

But seriously… block. When most people watch top players play Abel, they pay attention to their fancy blockstrings, hard combos, cool setups, and amazing resets. Yet what’s even more impressive is how these top Abels just hold back and tech appropriately during blockstrings.
Instead of pressing every button you can, just choose your moment carefully. There’s no magic answer to escaping blockstrings. Everything is situational. Eventually they’re going to fuck up, be predictable, and that’s when you counter.
