Finally finished this picture (back to SF fanart!) I’ve been working on it on and off for the last 2 weeks. It’s a bit of a relief as i dwell on things when it takes too long. Altogether i think it took about 8 hours. I used PS CS.
Very nice man! You are improving. i think the only thing that I see you can always improve upon is your wrinkles. I think you need to get in front of that mirror and do a hadoken yourself hehe. Good job though man.
Yes what SFMC said… That mirror my Friend helps alot…J.Z Im really glad to see that you are Improving, and keep practicing! draw everyday if you can! well not evryday- but you get what i mean…- remember, Lifedrawing is the Key…peace.
Overall i think it turned out ok, i definitely feel more confident now. But there are so many aspects i have improve on, such as textures and skin tones (and wrinkles also!). The lighting was a bit poor on this too but the background was a last minute thing so the shading on Ryu’s gi doesn’t take the background into account very much. I tried to compensate it with an additional layer to lighten and darken some areas, hence the slight mist but i’m still dubious. Anyway, thanks again!
sorry for the late reply… first it was a major deadline, then backlogged work, and then prep for Chinese New Year, and then the celebrating
nice work, jz_chu… you’re definitely improving (as everyone before me has already noted), keep it up! Some good muscle mass depicted in this piece, which IIRC is a first for you - your guys were previously drawn more bishonen-style
Drawing-wise, I like the composition. Backlight from the fireball works for me too.
I don’t think a gi should have nearly so many wrinkles, though - it’s made of fairly stiff material. That level of wrinkling can be reserved for softer fabrics, like silk. Things like texture & amount of creasing/wrinkling make good tools in helping to differentiate materials when you’re drawing.
I also think if the belt was moved up his torso a bit he might look better proportioned.
good stuff man… glad to see you improving with each piece.
awaiting your next piece
