Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has called on the public to be alert and vigilant in the wake of reports of the possible proliferation of fake rice should it eventually find its way into the Philippine market.
Reports indicate that the fake rice, made of potato, sweet potato and synthetic resin (a component used in making plastic which is highly poisonous), is being manufactured in China and exported to Asian countries like Indonesia and Vietnam.

Experts say the uncooked fake rice has almost the same color and texture as the genuine rice and therefore very hard to discover in its uncooked and raw stage.
At present, there have been no reports that the fake rice has reached the Philippines, which prompted Duterte to issue a warning against syndicates planning on bringing the poisonous products in the country.

“If you get caught with 200 tons of fake rice, I’ll give you 24 hours to consume it all,” Duterte warned, as he called on the public to be on alert against the possibility of the fake rice from China finding its way into the Philippine market.

“The PNP need not go to the extent of going inside the ports to investigate without proper coordination from the DA and NFA. “I don’t want them to go inside piers,” Duterte said.
The DA recently ordered the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) to carry out the necessary measures in order to avert the possible entry of the fake rice inside the country.
Meanwhile, the NFA, the lead agency who approves all imported agricultural products from other countries assured the public that no fake rice has reached the country to date

Duterte likes to spew out the Filipino political version of what we’d call “Cheap Pop”, to get the cheers from the ignorant masses.
Yet he notoriously ignores some of the actual underlying problems that our country faces.
