I was going to post that it funny how ultradavid opinion on her has changed. Him and James Chen were fapping over her a couple of weeks ago on WNF. So I take these guys opinions with a grain of salt.
While rose or poison maybe better characters it’s not as though they don’t have their own faults.
Ha ha ha… I just had the buttons pop out of my stick from shaking it in frustration. God damn it, it feels like every match up is bad for this character online.

Totally feel you. I had a ton of fun playing Elena offline at some casuals last weekend, but playing online is frustrating, dropping so many mallet smash links. Netcode pls
That tier list has Dan above Gen. Just saying.
Some of UD’s stuff is odd, but I do agree with his placement on Elena. I still think she’ll be universally considered bottom 5 in the game after a few months of exposure.

Hey david, thanks for the list, just have a few questions. Can you explain your reasoning on putting elena in the well rounded category? What do you think she has that would give her that qualification because she certainly doesn’t have the tools do deal with many situations that someone like deejay does(albeit mediocre tools obviously). Also why did you rank ken lower than oni? The ultra changes toward him nerfed him more than buffed him, similar to the ‘buffs’ deejay received.
I’d assume their impressions of Elena early on was based on the pre-release build. She was a beast in the loktest build, probably a lower top 10 character, but they just nerfed the hell out of her. She basically went from Second Impact Sean to Third Strike Sean.
As for my trouble matchups online - it’s literally any character with a reversal or command grab. With one frame links being so necessary for her to do any damage and one frame links being so inconsistent online, I can literally make a good read and end up taking more damage than I deal because DPs and SPDs get mashed in between the links. Everybody tells me “Just don’t do links online”, but the hell am I supposed to do? Hope people gets scared of losing 50-70 damage on a read instead of the 250-300 they should be losing? Hope people make at least 20 mistakes when I should only need them to make 3?

I don’t think an early tier list should be invalidated based purely on that lol, especially a tiny tier placement discrepancy like that. and Gen so far has lost a lot of set ups from DWU.

It’s not just your list but I feel it’s to early to anyone list seriously. I’m not trying to invalidate your opinion or anyone else’s. However the way I see it we don’t really have enough information to form a valid opinion. If I asked you or anyone else what the Elena gen MU was what kinda answer would I get? Maybe Elena has nothing redeemable about her and what we see is her ceiling.
Maybe I should ask you why you put her bottom 5. Instead of saying meh to your opinion. If you can make a solid case for her and detail her mu then I could put more stock into tier list that’s popping up.
It’s an ‘early impression’ tier list. I see no problem with early tier predictions since tiers are constantly changing anyway. I’m always interested to read top/knowledgeable players opinions on character strength. It always sparks some interesting debate.
So it’s kinda like pissing in the wind.
I think there’s merit in it, but maybe that’s because honestly I don’t see Elena being a great character. But yet people created a whole topic to say she’s so great, and we don’t know what we’re talking about because Justin Wong likes her.
It’s refreshing to see someone at least heavily invested in the game (one way or another) who says the same thing after the game has been out for a week.
Of course people are going to be far from 100% accurate on the tiers right now. It hasn’t even been a month. Still, I say we should talk about the tiers asap. Anyone who has an argument as to why so-and-so’s tier list is incorrect, outline your argument. Start discussion. Nothing but knowledge can be gained from discussion happening unless people are unwilling to learn.
Well hopefully Elena isn’t as bad as the early guesses. I’m going to main her and putting work into a bad character is pointless IMHO. But that’s probably my hope and eventually me embarking on a fruitless endeavor.
@the7k I’d love to have a proper discussion about Elena. The good the bad and the ugly. But everything seems so extreme knee jerks in every direction.
A proper discussion will happen soon we just need to give this time because Elena too new imo she’s bottom 10 but then again i took a small break and will start playing again soon besides i need to finish the MU thread or at least get letter G-J done to have more MU notes. Elena has problems she also has tricks right now i honestly think Capcom will have to patch some problems in the game i mean her FADC pass through glitch a lot of charc having wonky hurtboxes along with moves whiffing is just unacceptable i mean we can at least come to some sort of agreement that this is not the EVO ready game we were expecting. Regardless Elena will grow over time but i do hope to see a tier list evolve to something else by the time EVO comes

I’ll go the full mile and say she’ll end up anywhere from bottom 10 to bottom 5. The reasons for this are endless but I’ll pinpoint it down to a few things(brackets means that it’s a situational negative/positive):
I’m going to go to work so I’ll flesh out each point when I get back, but these I think are the main reasons she’s a bad character and why I personally think she’ll be considered bottom 5/bottom 10 when all is said and done. In fact, if it wasn’t for the positives of her broken hurtbox helping her out in (most) matchups, I would see no reason why she would be better than Deejay.
