I just found out about this project, and it doesn’t have much time left. But these people are trying to work on a short film of Static when he’s all grown up it seems.
What is Electrogenesis?
Electrogenesis is a 12 minute film lead by Graduate Film Production students at Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University.
Electrogenesis chronicles the story of Virgil Hawkins in a time after the Teen Titans and before the Future Justice League (During the time where Terry McGinnis picks up the mantle from Bruce). This is a segment in Static’s canon that hasn’t been touched until now. Electrogenesis is a fresh story line that bridges the gap between the Teen Titans and Future Justice League.
Not only will this film have the cinematic comic book feel and visual effects but we have also spent most of our time developing the character of Virgil Hawkins. The audience will see Static in a way that hasn’t been seen before, but is still true to the character that we know and love.
When the film is made we will submit to film festivals (as long a a prize isn’t involved) and we will hopefully get it into Comic Con 2015. However, this film is for us and you (the internets) so that is where it will end up for all to see free of charge. This is a fan film and we are not monetizing this directly. We will never sell this to anyone… ever…
All of us here love Static, many of us grew up with him on Kids WB, but much hasn’t been done with him since. We want to bring him back with this film and show that there is an audience for him and there is still a following for this fantastic character
What is this Film about?
Electrogensis begins with Static, in his 30’s losing the one thing that he loves the most and is pushed into a dark place where he has to cope and try to move on with the rest of his life. Can Static move on and can he pull himself out of the cage he has built for himself?
While on the surface this is a superhero story with a character that most of our team grew up watching and reading about. The comics that we tend to resonate the most with are the ones that seem most human. Loss and love are very human experiences. Loss of the people you love is devastating and it is even more devastating for someone like Static. Even though Static tends to be witty in the comics that could be seen as a mask for his internal conflicts. Vrigil has undergone death of friends in family in his youth, and we often find that those who make us laugh are the ones who are crying on the inside. Electrogenesis lifts that mask so that we see who Virgil truly is. No amount of his powers will ever bring his family back because he feels directly responsible and deals with survivor’s guilt.
So while this is a superhero story with all the bells and whistles (that we completely love with this genre) - this very much a human story where we really get to lift the mask of Static and see Virgil.
Doesn’t seem lke it has much hope to get funded. But I’ll more than likely donate since Static is one of my all time fave superheroes.
If only there were some sort of link…to this kickstarter…

Raz0r:
Static Shock sucks.
But Static was great…you know…the '90s Milestone comic that started it all, before being whitewashed into a goofy cartoon that added “Shock” to the title for some unknown reason. But yeah, the Static cartoon DID suck.

It’s like DBZ: People who started with the original jp audio and subs that were closer to the actual translation can’t stand what happened with the dub (lame synthesizer music, loss of epic vocal songs, awesome moments made “meh” because of the 2 previous faults, strange name changes, etc), whereas people who only knew the dub think it’s great. Think of Static (the Milestone comic, not that attempted continuation DC webcomic from 6 or so years ago) as jp DBZ and Static Shock as the US dubbed version. There you go.
The comic was pretty cool. The whole Milestone comics line was legit, but they got bought out by DC.
Clicked the link.
They fucked up.
It isn’t animated.
I want a Static show/movie more in line with the comics, but I don’t want it live action.

This will only work if he’s retconned as a transgender platypus.
