ELAC's "We got 'dat MUGEN" tourney; East LA, CA; 5/17; 3s, MvC2

Thanks man appreciate it…except I was wondering if there were actually anyone that lived in the same type of area I’m in so they could tell me and I wouldn’t have to look it up on the internet:rofl:

Yeah, the metro comes around here. I’m just not sure how to, since I’m not too familiar with the bus routes.

Aww damn man can’t use the console only characters for KOFXI? Thats all I use up there! Oh well

But it is good to know that the buses do go up there so I may be attending these tournaments (even though I suck but oh well its good to have comp since I’m getting back into it anyway)

Are ya’ll gonna add some more games to the line up for these tournaments? Like some FFRB games or older KOF games? Plus I play on the controller ALOT is it ok to use them? I know when some folks do tournaments like this they ban controllers…I suck at arcade sticks…

And when are these tournaments on the weekends? Sorry for a sking so many questions lol

…and also if anyone there has a tv with s-video input and an extra controller converter for the computer then I can bring my laptop and we can play games from there on the tv from my MAME emulator…just an idea…of course the games are arcade perfect (I know its some of yall out there that gripe about how certain versions of fighting games are good and whatnot hahahaha)

Didn’t know about that Wii rule.

which rule are you talking about?

ive never been to (or heard of) a console tourney that has banned pads.

yes its always on weekends

Here’s the ruleset we’re planning on running:

Road to Evo: Items on Brawl Tourney

The purpose of this tournament is to answer Evo’s call to test Brawl at its fullest. The goal is to take brawl as a whole, and through trial and demonstration of brokeness, begin to eliminate stuff that detracts from gameplay.

Ran by Pimp Willy and Nasir on behalf of Mr Wizard and the Evo staff

Entry Fee: $2 ($1 Pot, $1 club fee)
BYOC
Controllers: Wireless Controllers at your own risk (you forfeit a game if your controller runs out of batteries or malfunctions, for example.) Accidental Pausing is on a case-by-case basis but will usually default to Loss of Stock.
Preliminary Rounds: Best 3 of 5
Final Rounds: Best 4 of 7
Stock: 2
Timer: 4:00
Prizes: Winner Take All
Items: All items on, Medium Spawn

First stage is chosen via in game random function (all stages on)
Winner of a round keeps same character, loser gets a choice from the following:

  1. Keep character, counterpick any stage
  2. Change Character, stage is chosen randomly
  3. Change Character, keep the same stage

Note on these rules: this tournament is one of a series to help shape evo’s ruleset, which is going to be a huge tournament. If you think an item is truly broken, show up and use it to its fullest. If you think a stage is too easy to win on for whatever reason, show up and demonstrate this. With enough results and video evidence, we hope to create a tournament rule set with as much of the game intact as possible. Hope to see you there!

I hope to talk with you before then, either on IRC aim or something to that extent : )

also cross posted on SWF: http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?p=4369530#post4369530

I plan on attending mostly for the KOF tourney. Is anyone going to be taping those matches, because I’m planning to do so. Please let me know. Thanks.

I want to run KOFXI, but I doubt it’s happening, since there’s a KOF98UM tourney at FFA the same day. So most likely we’d just be running SSBB on that day due to a lack of people entering KOFXI.
Pimp Willy:
I already made a post at Smashboards, but okay, I guess.

Was there? I musta missed it, I didnt see anything when I looked

Edit: I found it now, yeah one thing that annoyed me about smashboards, I used to look in tournament listings all the time to find tournaments locally, and kept missing out on them. I went crazy, until I found out that they have regional subforums where most of the tournaments were announced : / so the one I posted was in the sub forum, so hopefully it draws more attention for you guys

Alright, it’s okay. It’s nice to have someone with more experience help out. Can you go on AIM sometime today or tomorrow so taht we may discuss the tournament? I should be online, so if I’m away, just leave me a message.

pimp willy u should not turn on all items…
turn off tomatoes and heart scales.
they are way to unfair.
just a thought.

ive been discussing this stuff with dvd and maybe he can give you more info

believe me, any discussion you’ve had about items, we’ve had ten fold. We pretty much agree that hearts/tomatos/curry/star man should be disabled, but in the interest of testing we decided to go completely default on items settings

Aww man ya’ll just playing Super Smash Bros? Thanks but no thanks :frowning:

Update: Items on tourney will now be $2 entry ($1 pot, $1 club) and is now winner take all. While there isn’t a ton of money to win, theres not a lot at risk either, so come show your stuff.

I imght show up and drag along James Chen just to see how the Smash tournaments go. It would be nice to get live feedback over smash games with items.

looking forward to meeting you Mr.wizard.

so how are things looking for saturday peeps

I plan on going tomorrow. I have a question tho. You said parking in the circle area required paying for a pass. How much does the pass cost? Is it a day pass?

I wouldn’t mind paying if it got me a quick parking spot instead of having to search for one. Since I might actually cut it a bit close.
