Actually religion is both the best thing man created and the worst thing man created. Religion can help people out and usually help out people in need. But also people really get brainwashed into believing things, with out question, which is the thing that bothers me the most. When people just go to church and follow blindly. I just couldnt stand that so i decided religion was not for me. Now i still say Jesus and God or both the same person are chilling out somewhere, but i dont approve of the ways man decides to worship them with blind faith If ya think about it. Jesus was also against the teachings of his time, He even went as far as destroying a temple or atleast causing trouble :). Anyways discussing usually ends in frustration heh so i dunno if ill give it my all. I’ve discussed it with most if not all of my family and they all said, me soul is dead because I didn’t let jesus into my heart. Yet a few weeks before that when i was confirmated everyone was happy and saying now i have god in me

I have the same point of view as Lando. I also have a similar experience as him with my family, except that the situation is because we are the only ones who have not converted to their protestant faith; therefore, we are the ones who go to hell.
My mother is a rather religious person, but something that I admire about her is that despite her faith, she is willing to question the “that’s how it is”, and wants to know the “why” of things of the Catholic church (or any other church). So, I respect her faith.
I really cannot stand the “that’s how it is” mentaility or the “memorize the bible” way of practice religion. I think its better to not know the bible but do what one believes is correct as long as it doesn’t hurt others rather than knowing the bible, saying the words “God” every other sentence and still screwing people as if their religiouseness or fanatism is a free ticket to heaven (read: Bush, moral majority, my mother’s family, etc).

two of my older sisters turned to christianism last year, and they are the definition of close minded
like this one time i asked them: “so, why do you have to give money to the church?” and all they could say was: because you have to, it’s in the bible.
Now, that seems rather convenient for the people in charge of the church, talk about brainwashing
also, they once took me to their church and everything seemed just so fake, like you see people there that you know are not exactly “good” people (i for one am not entitled to judge them) but still they’re just hypocrites, acting like saints

Ok, lets start with good Lando. Dude, you think we believe without question? Well, let me tell you you are right, we follow blindly, and that is called faith. Oh, but according to you, our faith is blind because we believe without seeing, but what do you expect, for Jesus to come down from heaven to appear to every single one of us and say “believe in me mofo”. No, he wont come down from his place just to make you believe, thats why you see all his works every single day; from the day you wake up until the time you go to sleep. We dont have a time machine either to go back in time and see Jesus, so thats not possible either. Now, about the ways “man” decides to worship Him, you are wrong too. Yes, Jesus was against the teachings of his time, but have you ever wondered why? We’ll, because they were wrong for many reasons i wont post yet. That’s why he came down to earth to stablish his only and truthful Church which is holy(it was stablished by God) and siningful(its run by people, who are sinners), but its the only Church of God. I know you say, well this sucks because it is run by sinners, but what do you expect again, for God to sit on the Vatican and do the whole thing? Thats why Jesus chose his representatives, to lead the Church for him, and who exactly was our first Pope? That was Peter, to whom God entrusted his Church, a Church that will not go against His teachings and will grant the Pope the gift of infadibility when dealing about issues concerning salvation. Yeah, Ill talk to you on messanger to give you further explanation that you need to know. I dont want write a book about this here giving you all the whys, maybe later.
Jabel, thats why the Catholic Church is not based completely on the Bible. Jesus didnt come here with a Bible in His hand, but he preached according to Tradition. That’s why we have tradition in our Church, is not just the Bible, although It is important too. We are not Baptists or other Christians who are based on the Bible only. Do not confuse and make the same arguments with two different religions. Yeah, good behavior is part of a good man, but thats why Jesus told us to be “prudentes” (prudent I think). Same, wont go far here, but maybe later.
Chris, I understand what you are trying to say. People who are morons and go to Church, but you have to see it this way. If Church was only for the holy, then the whole Church would be empty. We are all scum and crap, but that doesnt mean that you have no right to be on the Temple. God came here for sinners, not for the holy ones. Do not worry too much about those people, just worry about yourself. They may be faking it, but that doesnt mean they have no right to be there. Also, you dont have to give money to the Church, or at least not to the Catholic Church. It all depends on your financial condition which is a little too complicated to explain here, but I give 10 cents every Sunday, and thats nothing. What, do you think just because it is a Church is not going to be taxed by the goverment or be pay all the bills or pay for all the projects. Dude, life isnt free. I’ll give you more information regarding finances in another time.

who isnt to say what you think is wrong? See what im trying to get at is i know Jesus not gonna randomly show up and say Hey was up im jesus! Rather people just go to church because they are raised into it and never given a choice. So they are raised to think go to church go to church and they dont even know why they really go to church but because thats what they where told by their parents and god. They in turn pass on the similar beliefs to their children and their children to their children, never ever wondering why exactly they are going to church. Now from my experiences with religion and from what i seen on the news, from experiences with my family my girlfriend and her family Religion is nothing but a tool people use to control people of weaker minds. Ya know im gonna read the new testament and see for myself what jesus says about church and see where he tells peter to make catholic church

Well… since someone brought it up, I’ll throw in a few logs on the fire. I’m kinda in the same boat as a lot of you. Heh. I had the joy of being brought up in a 1/2 protestant and 1/2 Catholic family. That was the source of MANY feuds - believe me! Anyway, in my middle teen years, I started to come to the realization that the many religions/belief systems of the world all have their good points and all have their bad points. Similarly, they all have their good sheep and they all have their bad ones. I came to the decision that I honestly cannot say that one religion and its people is better, more worthy of salvation, or more “right” than the other. I just think that the world is a beautiful and complicated place and that there are many ideas about how it came to be, how it works, what its ideals should be, etc. So, while I don’t have a specific “faith”, I have respect for these many different ideas.
It seems that so often people confuse faith with an “I’m right; you’re wrong” battle. That’s how a lot of these “holy” wars, crusades and “holy” agendas get started. One set of religious (not to be confused with spiritual) people decides that its beliefs are “right” and sets out to thwart anyone in its way. I just don’t feel that it’s my place (or anyone’s place) to decide which religion is correct and which isn’t. Like I said, all religions and belief systems can offer beauty and darkness. If a religion/belief system speaks to you, that’s awesome. However, we should all try to have respect for the fact that there are going to be people out there who have a different take on life than we do.
Edit: One more thought. Jesus loved doubting Thomas…
