Dunno if this has been said already, but I found yet another use for Fuerte’s amazing F+mk. It’s such a weird looking move and has a much shorter recovery than I’d expect. I just got away with blocking 2 of Sagat’s Ultras while still in the F+mk animation right in his face, it was basically a failed corpse hop that I was shocked went virtually unpunished.
Are you serious? I’m going to go and see if this is right. Because if it is, I think we just got ourselves another advantage against that tank.
What can I NOT punish with RSF? I keep whiffing on shit like whiffed ultra by Ken and Blanka and eating BIG damage because of it. What moves recover crouching?
What do you mean what moves recover crouching?
When Ken lands from whiffed ultra, just do lvl 3 focus -> RSF.
I’m at around 4.5k-5k and I’m running into trouble with Sagats (obviously, due to top tierness and OP dmg/def, but I’m not whining) and M Bison, I can’t seem to punish random air flying, DP K has less priority and i try to habanero to where hes going to land but of course he can change that. No noob responses, these guys won’t give in to simple tricks ( or maybe they will since they are used to more elaborate, tricky ones (on a smaller note, fancy moves =/= good but there is some convoluted things we do at this level).
For bison, if he does the headstomp, you can just walk backwards or backdash and it’ll land harmlessly in front of you, giving you a small window of opportunity for a free RSF. For the devil’s reverse I usually habanero forward toward him each time and slowly force him toward the corner. A smart bison will always pull this move back away from you. If they ever actually guide the devil’s reverse toward you in response to you moving forward, focus attack it. You can actually run to slide and punish him as he lands from a devil’s reverse if your timing is tight. Just don’t run into the fist, that hurts, and don’t be too slow either and let him block a slide.
Be aware of his wakeup ex headstomp/devil’s reverse. If you always corpse hop him like you should vs. bison to take away wakeup ex crusher/ultra/scissors, then his only wakeups will be those 2 moves and the teleport(this is why I hate this matchup…the dude has like 24 invincible wakeups half of which aren’t even punishable very heavily on block by fuerte). If they like to wakeup ex headstomp then you can really kill them by walking back and rsf, so usually they’ll either teleport or devil’s reverse. Teleport you can run forward and punish, devil’s reverse you can jump up and airthrow. Yes that’s a lot to think about and it really feels like that when I knock down bison, I am guessing and not him, which really annoys the hell out of me.
Why didn’t I think of that? I’m always scared they’ll mash shoryu out before I can charge enough focus… Scrubs :looney:
What about like Blanka? His doesn’t have as much recovery (say you blocked it). I’ll try to run up, stop, fierce, and it whiffs.
I believe guacamole air throw or ultra(if you’re fast enough) can take him if you blocked his ultra.
Yeah you can air throw if he blocked, seen that in that crazy air throw vid. Or ultra, yeah that’s fine, but I was just wondering if I could do anything more damaging on block but I guess not. You can react to the ultra freeze and EX guacamole air throw when he goes up. Maybe regular but I haven’t tried it. Anyway, thanks.

So, do we have a mod in these forums? Is there anyone we can appeal to in order to clean this shit up? I’m willing to help contribute if not start the basic threads we need. You know, movelist and attributes, combos, etc. I consider myself good and knowledgeable with him now, would love to help other people starting out.
If not, can I volunteer? This forum is so damn hectic and full of complete trash topics. It needs some help.
^ What he said. If you need volunteers more then willing to help.
Thanks Halcyonryu, I think your Gamertag looks familiar, mines Dark Killer 67 (made it when I was 12, now it’s more of a parody of kids with stupid names). I like the focus attack devil’s reverse. As to the Free RSF after a block, to be honest; I don’t do RSF…ever haha. I don’t know how I got to this level without it (just hit 5.2k today) though I’m sure around 6k+ I will need to be able to do 3 (which i can do, but never take the risk online). And yes, I feel you on the fact that we have to guess; not the guy waking up (same with Ryu, Sagat for me, though Ryu usually does light shoryuken so i punish with Propeller as hes falling from light shoryuken). We should do some mirror matches or teach each other some tricks. What rating are you at?
try sending a PM to Jinrai (sp?). he helped keep the Balrog forum orderly by deleting random threads in the past.
I spent a huge chunk of my evening playing El Fuerte. How do you stop Rufus? The overhead splash (when timed poorly) is SO VICTIM to the EX Rufus anti-air (that takes roughly 33%). El Fuerte is going to get much more practice from me, but I can’t really stop Rufus’ anti air and it was annoying me.
Rufus has no good anti-air. You mean the EX Snake Strike? You’ve gotta time your splash super super poorly to be hit by that. If he uses quick-stand, just bait his reversal.
My timing must be way late for that splash. There were times I could easily get 3-4 splashes, but ONE poorly timed execution = painful.
My BP hovers around 6k usually, though I’ve sort of stopped playing ranked and just play player now cause of all the pullers. People that don’t pull when I beat them with rog will pull when I beat them with fuerte, I have no idea why.
And happytang is right btw. It’s too bad he is the only fun character in the entire game. The strategy with everyone else is to jump backwards and crouch, except rufus and viper I guess, but rufus is the scrubbiest piece of crap to ever walk the earth. Maybe I’ll learn viper. This game just really doesn’t seem geared toward aggressive play. If you’re ahead in health, the best thing to do is almost always nothing or to retreat to the other side of the stage and fire your laser.
Halcyonryu, I just hit 5.5k and see many pullers but will keep playing online. About Rufus; that’s totally untrue, tiers matter not (if that’s what you’re basing it off of im guessing). I’ve seen quite a few good Rufus that kick ass. The part about retreating is a strategy, it has nothing to do with cowardice; if you have a projectile, are you not supposed to bait with it? Some characters are defensive (Shotos) while some are pure offense with incredible mix up to make up for low def/attack (El Fuerte). I’m thinking of picking up Chun or Viper.
Can someone explain the whole guiding fuerte’s moves. IE: his tostadas, ultras etc. Or point me to a thread that discusses it. Is it just as simple as putting more forward or backward pressure? I have read that his DP + k is also controllable?
Lots of times i do ultra when opponent is right next to me but fuerte overshoots and whiffs, if i held back would it have connected?
Been getting pretty good results with Fuerte…once they are knocked down the mind games start and i usually keep them down. I can’t do RSF’s for shit… or atleast not with a pad…
Thanks.
yes. generally, if you hold the joystick towards (or away from) your opponent after inputting the command for grabs, splashes ,wall jumps and ultra. he will head in that direction. of course, the distance varies depending on the individual move. lastly, i could be wrong, but i don’t believe his Guacamole Slew is controllable.
yup.
