Effective Keep Away Strategy (Doom on Point)

wondering what your standard bnbs were for your team.

ie your standard mid screen combos and corner combos, especially with dante as i find his mid screen options a little complicated. and wondering what your DHC options were

I’m PMing you about it since this isn’t really the place for this.

I’ve been integrating Doom on point in a few of my teams for the sole purpose of keep-away and chip.

It’s pretty obvious, though I haven’t seen it mentioned much, that it’s really only for certain matchups. Like with any other team, a keep-away/chip setup will have strengths and weaknesses depending on the other team’s composition, so I use it for counter-picking purposes.

One of the teams I use is Doom/Taskmaster/Phoenix. Taskmaster’s parabolic shot really augments Doom’s zoning tools, I think; plasma beam covers the ground and pushes them pretty far, photon shot covers super jumps, and the parabolic shot assist stops normal jump attempts over the plasma beam. Even better, at full screen, parabolic shot will actually hit grounded opponents, so you can sometimes get plasma beam + parabolic + plasma beam. As this is a Phoenix team, I find that simply chipping out certain characters that can’t go through or around these projectiles gives a very solid amount of meter. The team can also switch at any time to Task/Doom/Phoenix for matchups that the first setup can’t handle. Taskmaster can zone mildly well by himself, and hidden missiles helps him try to either zone further or to approach and start some pressure. Lastly, I use Phoenix trap assist for the few moments I feel it’s safe enough, and to throw opponents off guard (it launches upwards at a 45 degree angle).

Generally, my goal is to find a way to make as many plasma beams hit. These cause the most chip and push them rather far into the corner. If I manage to catch them with a photon shot or parabolic arrows, I try to hit them with plasma beam when they land. I think other beam assists, or drones, would help a lot, so that you can sting together multiple beams and force them to land on at least one of them. This strategy really only works against non-flight and non-teleport characters, but I think it works reasonably well against characters like Wolverine and She-Hulk.
