The FGC is being put on blast right now, thanks to these recent events. There are two sides to everything - good and bad. However, the majority of people are only focusing on the negatives about the FGC. What about the positives? The FGC has done so many positive things but the thing is, the FGC doesn’t go out of their way to make people notice these positives. There is no need to. The people who have been with SRK/FGC for a long time already know how amazing and cooperative this community can be. For those who are new to the scene, they have no right to label the FGC in a negative light, because they don’t see the positives about this community, just the negatives.
There will always be drama in the FGC, this shit happens all the time - it its intertwined with this community. Anyone remember the whole Dark Prince debacle in 2007? This whole sexual harassment incident is tame as fuck compared to the DPC saga. Shit, that was REAL drama. You had stories of DPC bringing knives and trying to gangbang with his crew at tournaments. What about the time where DPC keyed Duc’s car or when he put sugar water in his gas tank? Shit, Mike Watson brought a Home Depot axe to the DPC vs. ShadyK MvC2 MM. People seem to forget that more serious shit like this has gone down in the past.
While these past events (sexual harassment and mocking of said incident on WNF) should not be taken lightly, it seems like this is being blown way out of proportion.
The actions of one man, or even a a few people, they do not speak for the entire community. So before anybody talks shit about the FGC, the least they could do is look at BOTH sides because if they don’t, they will not be fully informed, which will lead to people jumping to conclusions about the FGC and its members.
At least the FGC is taking responsibility for non-professional behaviour. They were part of the problem because they let that shit slide.
The fighting game community is hella small, like Tree-House club small. One man’s actions is much more broader for the community because of that.
The FGC is still a bunch of man-babies who can’t let go of their nostalgic grip. They want to control everything and do whatever it takes to manipulate everyone into thinking that change is bad. It is because of the higher ups that they drag everyone down, especially the professionals who dedicate their unemployed lives to getting good at the game and can’t even break a 5-digit prize pot.
I think it is time for some people to take a seat and let the real ambitious and positive leaders who don’t scare away every single sponsor known to man take over.
If the #1 Fighting Game player in the world can’t keep up with a amature League of Legends player in tournament money, I’m sorry dude, you’re in the wrong business.
The FGC is the only one that relies on “MM” to hang with the dough to break even. How fucking 3rd world country is that.
These actions are OK in a scripted environment like the WWE. If this is the norm i can see why noone thinks this will ever become a “Esport”
