I miss cvs2
I do too, though I was never good at it.
Anything happening these next two weeks in regards to SF? I am here until the 7th and would enjoy playing some games.
just the usual wednesday casuals at jon’s
Still watching these matches and I get cold sweats watching Sagat’s crouching fierce and A-groove…
Ken RC party kick is hilarious.
Do you guys think Xrd will be a more user/casual player friendly game? Cause all the other GG games look pretty intimidating.
This is completely the wrong attitude when approaching a fighting game. A good fighting game will reward you with as much time and effort as you put into it. If you don’t put in the time and effort than you should get bopped, plain and simple.
To answer your question, it’s far too early to tell whether GG Xrd will be more casual friendly; however, going off of the creators previous interviews he doesn’t want to compromise the game play of the franchise.
GG games are intimidating in a “they have a whole bunch of systems” way, not so much in an execution way (a good thing). There are characters who have high execution requirements (Johnny Mist cancelling), others who have to juggle a few concepts at once (Eddie attacking in tandem with his shadow, Order Sol holding buttons to save one of his two gauges), yet others are very execution lax and more about good mindgames/oki (Ky, Anji, Sol to an extent).
Will Xrd be friendlier in various ways? Maybe. P4A is a pretty deep, engaging fighter… and it has universal anti-airs where you just tap two buttons and almost every motion is quarter circles. Nobody’s asking that ArcSys make it harder to do shit to make it “better” no more than anyone is asking that Mario’s Jump change to Up + A + B in the vain notion it makes SMB1 “better.” And I suspect ArcSys realizes this.
Shameless plug: watch Guilty Bits!
Chipp is interesting to use but don’t get touched by anything or you explode.
I found Persona pretty easy to play, I heard it was a dumbed down version of GG… Is that true? I’d be down to learn GG though, someone should bring it on a Wednesday and teach people
Also I’ll be hosting games tonight, come anytime after 6. Bring some money for pizza if you want
BB is not a difficult game to play and it is even simpler than GG. Most of the game is learning the system mechanics although I have not played since BB:CS and I mostly only played Tsubaki and Tager.
Hey are you able to make it out tonight?
P4A is the easiest of the Arksys games to pick up because it does cater to casual and non fighting game players.
Blazblue would be the middle ground. Some in depth stuff to learn but it is still relatively approachable.
Guilty Gear would be the most difficult due to the system mechanics.
I’m not sure it’s any more or less dumbed down. In some ways, sure (all quarter circle motions, universal anti-airs), in other ways not (lots of button combo functions, gameplay systems including air turn that GG doesn’t have, etc.).
I have GGAC on my memory stick and am down to play, though I can’t come out tonight and I’m not sure about next week yet.
I don’t think I can make it tonight because I won’t get home until 9pm then it takes me almost an hour to get there by bus and I work early tomorrow morning.
I would be garbage if I tried to pick up and play BB right now as I have not played in a long time due to my Xbox breaking over a year ago. I have been too cheap to buy a new one thinking the Xbox One (Failure) would be backwards compatible… I will get another one eventually so I can actually play my games again.
At this point, it would be better to learn GG over BB because GG: AC+R is coming out soon and it’ll make for an easier transition between the versions. There’s a new version of BB in Japan that made a lot of changes than what’s currently out on consoles so you would have to relearn your character. Plus, since GG is considered the hardest of the arksys games, the fundamentals you learn with GG will carry over to all other arksys games.
I have played and owned numerous GG iterations and I think people tend to exaggerate the difficulty of Guilty Gear’s game systems, but you do have to re-learn characters almost every update. BB Tager to BB:CS Tager was a disappointment to me. My BNB combos dealt less damage than a Ragna pounding on all the buttons even if he had another tool.
You’re talking about a generation of gamers who consider MvC3 Hulk mirrors as one of the greatest Marvel sets in history.
