Pre-registration is becoming a must at these events. EVO just announced their pre-registration ideas for EVO West:
If you pre-register two weeks in advance, it’s a $20 cover charge.
If you pre-register less than two weeks in advance, it’s a $30 cover charge.
And then…drumroll please!
If you DON’T pre-register and just show up in person, it’s a FOURTY-FIVE DOLLAR COVER CHARGE! WOOOOOOOOAH NELLLLLIIIIE!
Be happy that ECC is only charging $5 extra, but I HAVE to agree with the Cannons on this one: Having people pre-register definitely helps with organization and creation of brackets BEFORE the tournament. SO even if EVO gets off to a late start because everybody shows up in person and nobody pre-registers, they will make a buttload of money off of it due the massive $45 cover.
That’s right, if you either pre-register through Paypal or register on-site on FRIDAY we will only have the $10 standard cover fee. If you register last minute on Saturday, we will charge $15. Sorry for the confusion.
UPDATE: Not many people have pre-registered, I just want to remind everyone that you MUST pre-register by Midnight on Thursday, May 25th. If you do not, you will have to show up in person on Friday at ECC to receive the $10 cover charge discount. Or else, you will be paying the $15 cover on Saturday-Sunday for the hassle of making us redraw brackets. NO EXCEPTIONS!
I’m not worried, this always happens and then at the last minute a flood of pre-regs come in. I know that a lot of people are waiting to see for sure if they can go to ECC and what games they’re entering, because all entries are NON-REFUNDABLE. That’s fine, just be sure not to wait too long! I want to compile a list of pre-entries and post them here later this week.
You know why I said fuck PayPal? Because they keep fucking me over with some new stupid shit everytime. I put my card information, I type the info, I did it wrong by accident (because those idiots sent me two seperate numbers,) I typed them in the wrong way, and now they can’t accept my card, and it also messed up my account and they froze it because of PayPal because I apperently was using “an invalid card.” It’s too much shit to do just to sign up for a tournament too for the newcomers of PayPal and tourney’s in general. Why not just leave the shit at $10 when you go there (but at least only up until Saturday or some shit.) It was mad simple last time, I’d like it that same way. And I’m not dissing you or the tourney, it’s mostly PayPal, bitch ass PayPal and gay ass eBay.
If we leave it at $10 registration on Saturday, we will have to wait 2-3 hours for everybody to show up and register, and THEN we will have to make ALL pools/brackets at the last minute. For a small tournament that’s fine, but for something the size and scope of ECC, it’s impossible. We probably wouldn’t even get a chance to start until 4pm or later if that were the case…which means we wouldn’t finish anything and everybody would still be playing pools at 3am.
I don’t think ANYBODY wants to still be playing their pools at 3am!
So, the $15 cover charge increase stays.
I’m sorry you had problems with Paypal, but I’ve used them for years (both with their old and new owners) and never had a problem. There are also probably a million or so other people who have used it with no problems. And it’s been used for pre-registration at multiple tournaments before, including Texas Showdown and EVO. So, there’s no reason to NOT use Paypal.
It’s easy as hell to use! Just don’t mistype your freakin’ credit card #!
No no no, if you read the first post I said that this is pre-registration for all the SINGLES tournaments. Team tournament registrations will be taken on-site only. Sorry about the confusion.

I’m not even going to address your accusations of “fraud” since it’s already been explained that I got fired BUYING SUPPLIES FOR THIS TOURNAMENT. It was found by the unemployment court that they wrongfully terminated me, and I’ve been on unemployment. For your information, I’m starting my new job in June, and it’s a nice juicy raise from what Best Buy was paying me anyway, so I don’t give a damn. You can call me a theif all you want, I’ve never stolen a damn thing in my life, why don’t you try to talk to me like this to my face?
What I will say is this: there has ALWAYS been a strict policy of NO REFUNDS at major tournaments. Whether it be ECC, EVO, or whatever, you will NOT get your money back once it’s handed over. So your argument of some ridiculous last-minute reason that you would register Friday and then LEAVE without playing in your tournaments is null and void.
As usual, those that complain the most only look at it from a one-sided viewpoint. You’re complaining that there’s no guarantee that the tournaments will start, or end, on time. The reason we’re ENFORCING the $15 cover on Saturday is to AVOID that.** IF EVERYBODY SHOWS UP ON SATURDAY AND REGISTERS LAST MINUTE, IT WILL TAKE US ANOTHER 3 HOURS PAST THE 1PM START TIME TO GET THINGS GOING. **This means EVERYTHING will be delayed, and to answer your question, NO we won’t finish on time.
So if you have it your way, guess what? YOU WOULD STILL COMPLAIN ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT RUNNING LATE!
I’ve had experience with trolls before, and you’re pretty bad at it.
Pre-register online, or have a friend of yours pre-register online for you.
Show up on Friday and register, OR have a friend of yours show up on Friday and register for you.
IF you show up on Saturday at the very last minute (i.e. we are starting the tournaments at 1pm SHARP and the arcade won’t open until noon at the earliest, so there is really NO time to register on Saturday) then you WILL pay $15.
This has been public for months, it is to avoid having EVERYBODY show up on Saturday, forcing us to not only waste time taking registrations, but totally re-draw the brackets and delay the tournaments for hours. No exceptions.
ALSO, let it be known that you may or may not get seeded properly. This means that if Justin Wong, Ricky Ortiz, and 10 other good players show up last minute on Saturday, they might end up in the same bracket for ALL games. Brackets will be drawn up Friday night/Saturday morning, so it is your own fault if you show up that late, refuse to register online, and don’t have any friends to do it for you on Friday.
ECC is NOT the only tournament to do this. Look at EVO this year…they are charging $25 EXTRA for on-site registration…they don’t even GIVE you a chance to register on-site like we’re doing on Friday. So, NO COMPLAINTS!
EDIT: I just checked todays’ list of pre-registrants, and I noticed that somebody only sent me $10. REMEMBER, it’s $10 cover PLUS whatever tournaments you are entering. If you just send me $10, that only pays your cover…you will still have to send me more, or give me the entry fees to the tournaments you’re playing in person.
