Im coming to LA for three days on business. Ill be staying near the Staples center. Where should i go nearby to play some casuals? We dont have shit for arcades where im at in North Carolina.
Thanks
what games do you play?
anything fighting really obviously but motw sf4 alpha 3 any kof kinda scrubby in all of them but id love to go blow some cash at the arcade since we havnt had one in charlotte in forever
AI is probably your best bet. Great SF4 comp, and they have lots of flavors of KoF including 12.
Of course Denjin is dope too, but its farther for you
Whats AI how far you estimate it is for me from Staples center How far is denjin?
at most 40 to AI (but I’ve never made the trip)
at least 60 to denjin
this all depends on what time you leave. around driving in and out of the area around staples center can have really rough traffic
Depending on time of day the trip from Staples to AI can take about 30 to an hour. If you’re planning on spending the day at AI get there around 1, there should be low traffic and they’ll open shortly after 1.
If you play 3S, Denjin, no contest.
AI is usually cramped, super loud, parking is hell, and so on. But it’s good to experience. P.S. go to Genki if you go there. :V

Just hit up mapquest and get an estimate on the driving time from wherever you’re staying. All pretty good places but some are more active than others depending on whether you go in the afternoon, at night, or on the day of a tournament.
If ur staying near Staples center and don’t have transportation, then u are better off going to Family arcade. Don’t mistake this arcade for Family fun. Family is a 10 minute drive from Staples Center; across the street from LACC. It’s a convenient location since it’s right next to the subway. The only problem is that sf4 is 75 cents and the competition is terrible.
Other local arcades that are not even worth mentioning, but I will still throw them out:
- Cyber Zone in Koreatown - has one A3 cabinet and one Cvs2 with cobwebs around
- Japan Arcade in Little Tokyo - has one A3and one 3s that no one plays
…hope that helps.
make sure you go grab a Hot Dog from pinks, a French Dip sandwich from Phillipes, and a Manuel Special from El Tepeyac
Staples to AI should take about 20 minutes, that’s usually how long it takes me =P
Staples to AI is 15-20 minutes.
just take the 10 fwy EAST to 60 fwy EAST.
60 FWY go 18 miles, exit, Fullerton Ave. offramp, go straight into Diamond Plaza.
best time to go is around 9pm.
as far as Japan Arcade goes, its the closest “arcade” but its not worth the effort, since most of the machiens are broken and theres absolutely no comp there. It’s the storage area for broken super arcade games.
Last I remember, they actually “fixed” Japan Arcade’s machines. Except, the sticks on SF4 are too tight.
3rd Strike was alright, but the cab is in a cramped position (i.e., it’s not even h2h… it’s two people on one small cab).
Stick to AI.
i stopped in japan arcade in little tokyo on saturday afternoon, place was dead. shame, they have some nice machines, didn’t play on them though.
As long as their stuff can stay semi-maintained, I’d go there for practice. But yeah, it’s usually dead since Japan Arcade has a notorious reputation for every machine being broken.
SF4 is two tokens ($0.50), which is a better change than Family Arcade’s $0.75, at least. However, you’re still better off venturing the extra miles to go to AI or Denjin.
yeah wow .75, that’s an outrageous price, nasty jipp, sucks.
good thing SF4 players have alternatives in socal. i’m 15 mins from james which is a marvel players dream haha
ffa is .50 for sf4 and they have the best setup hands down. i didn’t say best comp, but by far the best setup in the US.
mvc2 = ffa as well.
