I wasnât there long enough to make any determination, but if shit was like how Iâm hearing it was from a bunch of people, Minâs right.
There seem to be a bunch of new âtournament organizersâ that are great at getting people to the venue, but suck at actually running the tournament.
Honestly, at this point, SF4 does all the work for you in terms of getting people there. The focus needs to be on implementation. I havenât been to a tournament yet that has taken the time to make sure all the TVs are good, all the characters are unlocked, etc. I know it can be tough, but if you want to run a proper tournament, certain things need to be done.
If I were running a tournament (and who knows⌠I might start doing some again), I would only rock CRTs at this point, or thoroughly tested flat screens. Any flat screen without a Rock Band test wouldnât get used at all. Playing on projectors⌠nah. There need to be sufficient set-ups, directors need to make sure everything runs as efficiently as possible, and directors need to make sure they put together a schedule that can actually run, as opposed to throwing any and all tournaments into the line-up.
But whatever.
This is just general speak right now, because, again, wasnât at ECT long enough to really see what went on there. This is just shit Iâm seeing at tournaments right about now. Seems like niggas can barely run brackets, but want to throw large-scale tournaments.

Itâs not the players responsibility, youâre right, but that doesnât prevent the players from trying to help should they see things going awry. Sitting on your hands complaining and refusing to help seems counterproductive. EVO has money to throw around for renting stuff, and a lot of tournaments ask for TVs/systems and offer reduced/free entry for doing so (see EVO North/MWC for example). I was surprised there was no mention of that in the thread for this tournament, perhaps it may have helped if there was.
I do suck at games, Iâll admit that. You go spend two years in Iraq and then move to the middle of nowhere and try to keep competitive. I think going 2-2 in my second SFIV tournament isnât bad given the circumstances.
Iâll gladly show up to any EC tournament I have time to make it to and play you. I did get to play quite a few NY people this past weekend and there is a lot of talent there, I lost a lot of matches. It doesnât help that I play Gouken and I have little to no experience against a lot of characters (whomever was playing Guile on the 360 in the corner Sunday was wrecking me, I have no idea how to play that match).

This was Our first shot at a tourny of this scale. I really dont think we did that bad at all. Like I said in other post, I did leave John hanging here and there because of the importance of my placing in the tournaments (5v5 and singles). Yes, we have kinks to work out, but the majority of the people are understanding of this, as some others are not. The 5 on 5 tourny was NOT to be run by John or myself. The event thread for ect, first post, all entrants for 5 v 5 are to PM justin. It is a separate tourny from ect. All we were to do was provide a place for everyone to play. The fact that we were stuck with it is really not our fault in all honesty and we did our best with it. After the first qualifier justin was about off call off the 2nd one and just pick. The rules and everything else for the qualifier were changed every week. The whole thing in general was all over the place. We did our best to maintain it. All in all, I had a great time and I know other people did also. Sorry if you didnât. We are going to try again late october. Shooting for the weekend BEFORE halloween. But we will see. I am going to re do my shot outs in this thread I think. I was rushing for work this morning and I want to really get everyone as individuals. Thanks a lot everyone. Much respect to all.

im not making any excuses for my performance when i mention the lag tvs but i find it surprising that there werent enough decent tvs allocated when they had about 2 months to prepare for it
