Easiest way to make a DB15 Port

Hey guys, I’m a relative noob when it comes to modding my own sticks, but I’d like to take things a bit further. I can drill a hole for Neutrik ports, but I’m not sure what the best/easiest way to make a hole for a DB15 port would be. I could get a DB15 hole punch but those go for a few hundred dollars, so that’s not ideal. Are there any tutorials out there? Thanks in advance!

Switchcraft and generic companies make DB15 jacks for 24mm holes like with Neutrik jacks.

I did something similar with a DB9 for a stick.

Pretty cool, didnt know these exist, might as well throw one of these on my stick so i can use it on a supergun

OK that is fucking awesome, had no idea these existed. Thank you!! This will make future mods VERY easy.

The only small downside I see of those are the fact that they’re VGA-style 15-pin ports (3 rows of 5 pins) rather than the joystick-port-syle 15-pin port (2 rows of pins, of 8 and 7 pins).
Minor inconvenience, but I think it’s important to note nonetheless.

damn, i got too excited and didnt realize. so whats the work around for this? If i was going to use mine purely for MVS/AES ? Id rather use what i have which are acouple of neo geo aes extension cables. Assume a custom cable would have to be made? Probably hit up James at JammaNationX. IF it ends up costing a pretty penny probably easier to just the the UD converter. DB connector is about $12 and if a custom cable is $20 just makes more sense to go the UD route

if you know how to use a multimeter and a soldering iron, its not hard to make a custom HD15 to a DE15 cable.
You have to solder with the HD-15 pass-though adapter anyways

Ah damn, didn’t realize it’s a different connector type either. So if I wanted to use a solder free board like this one from Winford:

what would my best option be? Would like to keep it simple and soldering free.

Edit: I also see some HD-15 to DB-15 adapters online, I suppose that would work too?

No, those are intended to adapt an older Video standard to VGA, its not going to work for your needs

That’s unfortunate. I would really like to make this happen without having to solder.

You could use the Winford break out board, they cost more than the Switchcraft passthough.
You still have to cut out the shape for the DE 15 and drill holes for mounting

So going back to my OP, the problem is I don’t really know how to cut the right shape out without an expensive hole puncher. A 24 mm hole is easy enough to drill but how would I get the correct sizing for the DB15 port?

Use a template, such as the ones you can find with a simple Google search:
http://www.norcomp.net/Navpages/panelcutouts.htm

Drill (4 holes for the main cutout, 2 for the mounting screws), Dremel/cut (the remaining straight lines), file/sand (until the shape is clean).

Thanks, I think I got it. Still slightly confused by those diagrams you shared though. From what I can see in pictures both sides of the Winford board seem to be the same size, so I guess I’m not really getting how to mount it on the inside of the stick with the right hole size. Not sure if I’m even explaining my confusion properly, hah. Thanks for the tips either way guys, I think I have enough info to just figure it out.
