All you have to do the stop stomp gimmicks is make your best guess as far as which side it’ll hit on, then tap that direction right as it hits. If it crosses up you get a parry, if not you block.
alex is bar none the easiest to “use.” easy to score knockdowns, high stun buttons, jab and ex flash are safe and ex slash elbow mostly is and both exes knock down. stomp is an ok anti-throw/anti-poke threat. decent range on some pokes. dont even need hitconfirms really.
otherwise i think shotos, chun, elena, yang are pretty straightforward. aside from character specific juggles i always thought dudley was fairly accessible. i dont think it makes much of a difference in 3s though. ive seen beginners learn pretty fast with yun, q, etc. imo in 3s how technical you want to be is largely reliant on playstyle you choose. maybe yun, urien and makoto offer a pretty high ceiling, but otherwise i think the player can decide how simple or advanced they prefer to be with any character
easy to “win with” at high level is basically just the tier list. not really a question a beginner needs to be concerned with, nor would the answer help them. the fact that chun and ken are easy to use and top tier is more or less coincidence
you’ve just answered your own question. that’s why i suggested alex. there’s not much to learn with him so you have to rely on strategies like poking and ticking into shit. he’s a good entry point for this game imo. plus cl.st.mk into super is a pretty easy confirm if you want to waste precious meter. this guy really needs EX to get by.
Thanks for all the replies so far. I’m gonna avoid Chun-Li and Ken because I know they’re some of the best characters, though I’m definitely a fan of footsie characters. Though to me Yang is definitely a footsie character. I tried Akuma and liked him but I’d rather learn someone with better safe pressure.
I think I’ll stick with Yang and give Alex an extended look. Is there any character on the roster that most people avoid? Wouldn’t mind using the least popular character as long as he’s not too hard to learn. I juggle this, SFxT, Injustice, AE, and ST GGPO. No time to for long grinding or training.
Ive played this game since i was 13 and i mained Yang,Urien,Dudley and I still couldnt Play ken.I guess you need a certain Play style to play him effectively Look at Deshiken videos he plays wild
Alex is stupidly overpowered in online play. The startup for stomp and charging shoulder (and even forward hp for that matter) tend to be invisible. I’m sure there’s a way around it, but it’s consistently way more of an uphill battle than it should be.
I agree with Alex being easy to use. I remember KSK saying in an interview that he used Alex because there really wasn’t anything remotely difficult to execute.
12, takes a whole lot to win with him consistently. He’s pretty hard to use because you have to use his mobility to set up a lot stuff for him.
Elena mostly because people are unsure of how to go about using her/fighting her, but really easy to use. Normals are great, really good kara throw, good damage from SA2.
Ibuki, lots of knowledge and execution required (for someone just starting out). Low threshold for mistakes, her low health is her biggest drawback.
Oro, generally a bastard, but really great pokes, mix ups, and supers, his strength is in frustrating opponents into mistakes.
Q, brutal to start the game out with, but is a fun character once you figure him out. Just know you’ll be fighting uphill against a lot of the cast.
I probably just need more experience with the match. Most of the time that is true, but I still run across stomps that seem pretty ambiguous/are fast enough to have trouble reacting.
While we’re talking about Alex, what makes him low tier in your opinion? What should you look for and take advantage of versus Alex?
biggest weakness alex has is no reliable way to close the gap and get in your face. against the likes of chun and ken its almost impossible to earn a dash in, hence why you see shit like dash in raw sa2 being used by high level alex players. a good character shouldn’t have to use something like that
edit: also worth noting is all of alex’s best weapons are only really effective at point blank range.
For Dudley, don’t understand why for some reason too many people can’t learn overhead super/ toward mk super/ short short super consistently. If you learn this you’re already scary.
I think that timing lands between jab and the medium hit confirms and that might be a bit difficult to get re-accustomed to in light of the latency issues. It really seems like the only things I’ve held on to well were hit confirms, one of the few things the lower end players don’t really embrace.
