EA vs Marvel

Somehow words like these do little to settle the nerves or stroke my interest.

His words about the Capcom games come off as lip service as I strongly suspect he’s trying NOT to piss off people who became fans of and still are fans of the Capcom seres. Coming right out and blasting those games would piss off a fairly large amount of people after all.

If it sells does that make it a good game? Yes and no. Yes it does because that means it appealed to larger section of people and they wanted it so in that sense it was a good game. But it’s also no in the sense that I doubt two or three years after it’s release anyone will give a damn about it. Hell, six months after it comes out I imagine they’ll be a lot of copies returned as the fanboys trade in to get credit for Madden 20XX or whatever.

HIgh sales have never guaranteed quality. Superman64 for N64 sold truckloads and was universally regarded as awful (not mediocre - awful). Every MK sells a million plus copies regardless of quality. Sales and quality don’t always correlate.

Also, where is that inkblot post from? I refuse to believe that he would write such a thing. It doesn’t sound at all like the inkblot I know.

I completely disagree on your thoughts on Capcom’s intent with CFJ. Yeah it’s not a great game, but given the way it was designed and the kind of very old-school engine it featured, I would have to say it’s probably one of the few games in the market that was designed specifically for us, the small percentage of fighting game fans that under any other circumstance don’t normally provide the type of profit for companies to care about. So if your saying they didn’t care, I think your wrong. Again it’s not a great game, but it is a game that was designed with people like us in mind, whereas EA’s game probably doesn’t, and in that sense they shouldn’t be compared that way.

The rest of you need to keep quiet on this discussion. You guys hurl criticisms at EA as if you are it’s intended audience. It’s like being a nine year old, opening up someone elses christmas gift and crying because it isn’t what you wanted. This game is obviously not designed for us, which is why this whole discussion is incredibly pointless. Truth is as a casual game, it will probably be a solid title that comicbook fans and fun seeking casual players will pick up to provide a couple of hours of entertainment, What can you do? Nothing because it doesn’t pertain to you and the mere fact that you dissaprove of it’s direction should be a clear indication of that. Move on.

Why the hell should we settle for mediocrity? I’ve said it before, but the gaming industry is just glossing over the adult demographic. Is it that hard to believe that some people actually want a little substance to their games? I wish to fuck “mature content” meant “stupid fuckers need not apply” rather than “OMG blood guts and tittays for all, HOORAY!!!11123.”

EA can kiss my ass.

But if you have 0, and can’t really get both, i think sales is a good start. If you want quality and no sales there is a VF4 for $10 at BB for you somewhere.

And this is probably a big part of why it sux. Why are we asking for this to happen again?

Mediocrity and having the scene an avg game would have is probably about 10x better than what we have now, i see it as an upgrade, not a settlement. We have XBL, and the days the majors and regionals are held (if you can even travel to them), every other day pretty much sux (compared to other games) to be a SF player unless your into anime or random links or GD.

And i don’t question that people think they want substance to their games, i just question whether this substance is more than just some fanboyism mixed in with a little elitism. If EA vs Marvel was the excat same game as it was today, but with worse graphics and 6 buttons, people would be selling their ps2s for a chance to play.

i thought it was confirmed that this game was garbage

I’m not lookin forward to the game either. I think the best question is, “Would EA have tried releasing this game if it didn’t have Marvel’s characters in it”. I don’t think they would have. I don’t think they’ve released anything yet that didn’t hinge of pre-existing popularity in it’s roster yet (in fighting games anyway). It’s not gonna be something that “true” fighting game fans are gonna flock towards. It’s probably supposed to appeal to the casual gamer and six year olds that liked SpiderMan 1 or 2. Nothin wrong with bein optimistic just don’t get your hopes up too much…

this might have been posted but here are some vids of this in action.

It looks like a fucking joke.

A joke that will sell millions due to brand name and ease of play.

Fucking bastards.
