E3 2019 Thread: Donzo! Post E3 Conversation and Migration back into VGG

I frames in dauntless feel like they are more towards the end of the roll instead of the start. You kind have to dodge a bit earlier than you might be used to in other games.

How I feel anyway. It’s been said it’s because of server side lag, but I don’t know for sure. :man_shrugging:t4:

I didn’t expect much from dauntless, but it was free and I’ve enjoyed it so far.

It’s because all that stuff is checked server side, so your iframes truly ARE unreliable based on your connection. It’s actually retarded.

So… E3 2019 has come to an end yesterday.
What’s everybody’s general thoughts on this year’s convention?

Despite it being placed right at the (or near of) current console generation, surprisingly there were still plenty of news across dozens of studios and publishers. According to my calculations we got at least 50 new games announced for a multitude of platforms, even though majority of them came from indie/smaller developers.

I guess everybody already knows, but EA naturally had the weakest showing. Not only did they not really reveal any big new games, their scheduling was very weird and they completely left out 4 EA Originals titles out of the show. Could’ve spent time on those instead of talking about fucking ball physics in FIFA 20

Microsoft had the strongest showing in terms of sheer volume of games shown and third party announcements, but I really think Phil shouldn’t have made that “14 games” tweet before the Briefing. Technically he was correct but he sorta made it sound like they were announcing completely new titles, while out of 14 there were maybe 3 actual reveals. Regardless, they didn’t talk too much and showed a lot of stuff, plus we finally got the confirmation that indeed the next console generation will kick off in 2020, and that Scarlett and PS5 will be equal in power, more or less anyway

Bethesda’s showing was terrible. More of the same shit they had for the last several years, with only actual good news being Youngblood’s release date, DOOM’s release date, and announcements of Deathloop and Ghostwire. Igumi-chan will forever remain as E3’s waifu/idol character

Devolver is 10/10 as usual. There’s no additional words needed and I am super stoked for (final?) part of their Cinematic Universe saga. Plus the game announcements of theirs this year were cool, I’m definitely interested in Carrion and Messenger’s getting a free DLC which is super awesome

PC Gaming Show - nothing out of the ordinary. Great hosting duo with Day9 and Frankie Ward, an excellent lineup of titles that would otherwise completely fly under the radar, fuck Epic, bring on 2020

Ubisoft were actually alright this time. They still cling onto the Bathroom Break with the Just Dance segment but at least the opener with Watch Dogs Legion was definitely solid and I want to know more about Gods & Monsters. 7/10

Square Enix got heavily carried by FF7 Remake and Avengers, with some neat announcements inbetween, but I can appreciate them showing mostly trailers and gameplay with talking only relevant to the topics at hand, no corporate bullshit, though I can’t help but feel that Outriders’ reveal was rather barebones and apparently we’re not getting news until Winter? Wack

Overall, it’s pretty clear that EVERYBODY among the big players are saving their big guns for next year as, despite having backwards compatibility, you’ll still need a launch lineup for people to actually go to the stores and grab the latest hardware from Sony and Microsoft, and I can guarantee that majority of titles schedules for 2020 will be receiving some kind of a rerelease/upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Two with improved visuals, framerates and so on and so forth, this industry loves double dipping and I doubt we’ll stop seeing remasters any time soon, just look at the amount of them that were released over the course of this generation alone

MARK YOUR CALENDARS, BOYS!

I thought Shenmue 4 was supposed to finish it up, with a Shenmue 5 being a possibility.

I have seen the “shock” about this info though. I’ve seen a lot of hate for Shenmue in general so it all blends together, haha.

It will take another 20 years to get Shenmue 4. Planning it has a multi part series was a mistake.

This and Oddworld ( another series meant to span several games) came off as too ambitious even for my younger self back in the day and I still believe it.

I never saw Shenmue going past 2 after the DC was disco’d, so I’ll stay optimistic despite knowing better.

I mean if the game’s were easy to produce, episodic could be done, but these are large productions and due to their loose structure, they hardly have stuff going on for most of the game, which makes it more difficult to be attractive for most. There is a reason spiritual nephew Yakuza has over 6 games and Shen Mue struggles to get 3, for the realistic details, it isn’t as fun.

After playing 3 Yakuza games in the last 2.5 years,I’m wondering if I will still like Shenmue as much.

I can’t believe it’s been 17 years since I played Shenmue 2 on Xbox.

Possibly?

I replayed Shenmue to somewhat-completion a few months ago and had my mind blown by it, in 2019, more than I did back in 2001 and that was after playing Yakuza 0, Kiwami, Kiwami 2 and some of Y6.

Then again, I only made the Shenmue to Yakuza comparison back on the Yakuza’s original release after an hour of play. Played a little more and the differences were bigger.

I thought I was safe this summer with S3 getting pushed back to November only to have S3, Death Stranding, Doom Eternal and the new Pokémon release in the same month…

This year was good. Better than I expected to be without Sony being here.

EA: Star Wars looks fun still needs some polishing up of course but the potential is clearly there. Rest of the conference had sports stuff. Not even a new Need for Speed.

M$: Second best conference imo. M$ brought the content since Sony was there. Keanu showing up for Cyberpunk was great, PSO2 finally coming west is a nice surprise, and them not spending 5 minutes talking about a car was great. Ori looked awesome and the Lego content for Forza looked cool even though I’m not interested in Forza. And then they had and in engine footage showing of Halo to show after talking about Scarlett.

Of course the main thing dragging their conference down which has been a problem for years is that most of the games shown are coming out on other platforms. Then there was the lack of gameplay. I was looking forward ti seeing Gears 5 this year and we got 2 CG trailers for with 1 being ???. The 2nd trailer did a pretty good job of demonstrating what Escape is but would have been great to at least show a segment of the game.

Ubisoft: Was ok. They did an Ass Creed Symphony but no Ass Creed game…oooook. Watch Dogs looks great, like what they are doing with Legion and it was cool seeing Jon Bernthal in Ghost Recon. Gods and Monsters looks interesting. Nice to see For Honor is still going strong. Nothing really mind blowing in the show just ok.

Square Enix: Show was definitely carried by mostly FFVIIR but seeing that game as much as we did was GREAT. Disappointedin the reveal for Avengers but I’m optimistic on it. Game has potential and just need to see more of it in action. FF8 remaster looks like they put more work in than I expected them to. Everything else was icing.

Bethesda: Doom and Wolfenstein were highlights. Fallout Battle Royal…really? Streaming stuff…zzzzzzzzzz. Ghostwire was a pleasant surprise. Can’t wait to hear more and please have Ikumi present the game going forward. Not bad overall but the lows keep it from being good.

Nintendo: No.1 for me even though they were missing 3 things. No Metroid news at all, Retro Studio’s game missing, and no Bayo news. Despite this they still had a great showing. They somehow sold me on Luigi’s Mansion when I didn’t have any plans to buy it. The fact that Sakurai was able to pull off getting Banjo and Kazooie into the game is an amazing feat regardless of your care for the franchise. Astral Chains and Daemon X Machina further cementing my purchases, watching people lose their minds over Panzer Dragoon and then creaming myself over getting a BotW sequel.

So yeah E3 overall still pretty good overall.

I don’t know how many people out there are familiar with FamilyJules on youtube but he’s apparently helped make the music for Cadence of Hyrule.

Square and Nintendo killed it this year.

Trails of Mana, Collection of Mana, FF8 Remaster, showing extensive gameplay of FF7R along with a release date and Oninaki are all extremely welcomed additions.

Links awakening remake release date and No More Heroes III were the biggest highlights of the Nintendo direct for me. Everything was pretty solid though.

I still finally it hilarious that the switch is getting 2 Netflix funded games but the system doesn’t have Netflix.

Shit how the fuck did I forget about Link’s Awakening and No More Heroes III. NMH3’s announcement was the 1st orgasm in the direct for me.

I’m on a trip right now so I am getting the rest @dangerous_j. I enjoy doing this so I’m hoping I can make it happen next year.

LGR’s thoughts on the new Commander Keen

Oh. Hero/Edrick/Luminary along with Bear and Bird being confirmed for smash were feel good moments as well. Hero/Edrick/Luminary meant way more to me than B&K though.

DQ was the first RPG I ever played and I fell in love with the series around DQ3. Been obsessed ever since. It’s my favorite RPG series. Hands down. It’s simplicity has always been the core reason why I love it.

B&K “coming home” as it were was really great too and gave us one of the best reactionary gifs ever.
