Dumb ASUS VH236H questions

I got my ASUS VH236H today, and I tried that Rock Band 2 syncing thing to make sure it’s as good as everybody says, but I couldn’t get the auto-sync to work. I tried holding up several different parts of the guitar to the speaker (it didn’t really specify which part to hold up)…either way, trying the manual method, I got like 30ms of visual lag, and around 70ms of audio lag. That doesn’t seem right…

Also, is there any way I can hook up my old external speakers to it to use with the PS3? I’m probably not giving nearly enough info here, but they work for my computer. They have one of those green jack in things, and the monitor has a space for one of those green jack in things, so I thought maybe there’s some method I’m just not aware of?..

Also^2, are you supposed to use the monitor’s game mode? Oh, and how do I get the monitor to use the proper resolution with my crappy Dell Dimension E-310. Is it possible? Google tells me it is 1920x1080, but I’m not given that option in the settings…

That green jack isn’t for your computer speakers there’s suppose to be a green wire that’s two sided and runs to your computer it’s because the monitor has built in speakers, Plugging your normal speakers won’t work sadly. I have no idea how rockband work’s so, I cannot help you with that sadly, I don’t get your last question maybe you could give more info and clean it up a bit, Also resolution for the most part is done by video card and wither or not you have your video card driver’s also if the game doesn’t let you run it at 1920x1080 widescreen resolution it probably doesn’t support it but you can look in your game options for 4:3 standard and 16:9 Widescreen and switch it to 16:9

I have a VH236, not the VH236H. The non-H has a Earphone - out Port, which you can connect to external PC speakers.

If the H doesn’t have the Earphone - out Port, then get a female stereo RCA to female 3.5mm headphone jack adapter (shaped like a ‘Y’) and use the Mulit-Out cable for your audio output in the PS3 settings, instead of HDMI.

As cammy-white stated, the PC’s video output is dependent on the Video Card you have installed.

My step-dad actually found a way to make the speakers work. I don’t fully understand what he did, but it involved the green thingy, and a blue and green two sided cored he had lying around. Would be good if I knew what they were called.

For the last thing, I wasn’t expecting anyone to know because I have no idea how to word the question better. Obviously the monitor works fine for my PS3, but as a computer monitor the computer won’t seem to let me use the optimal resolution.

It’s most likely you have an onboard videocard with that old pc, that is causing your resolution woe’s

That was my guess. I can’t even play WoW on this thing.

Id invest in a better computer or, atleast a video card, I could probably link you to one for your PC just have to look at the specs seeing as your PC should have a pentium4 I don’t know if you can find this card anywhere but,

First one should be better
3D Fuzion 3DFR6200P GeForce 6200 128MB 64-bit DDR PCI Video Card

or

HIS H130HMF128E1N Radeon X1300 512MB (128MB Onboard) 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x1 Video Card

NOTE: I do not guarantee these will work with your computer out of the box, Alsi id have someone double check if these will fit into your PCI Slots and that you have a decent powerpac I just looked at your PC’s Spec’s it would cost almost just enough to buy a new one then to replace everything, Cause your powerpac won’t run the card also your motherboard would need more RAM

I can probably link you to a decent ‘‘pre’’ built computer seeing as you have no experience putting them together yourself, I could probably find you a cheap build that would run really great but you’d have no idea how to put it together

EDIT: Wow is a terrible benchmark to set standards for, for game’s, I normally use Half-Life 1, Quake3 and Some high graphic game to benchmark older computers

The ASUS VH series modes are purely colour settings. There’s no difference between the modes besides colour settings.

Eh, I’m not really looking to spend more money just yet. If I can’t do anything with what I’ve got, I’ll live.

And it’s terrible how, I mean yes it’s a bad game, but I’ve been lead to believe it was designed to run on older computers, and mine was made one year after WoW came out.

[edit] Oh, and they’re just color settings? Well that’s kind of silly, but alright, good to know.
