Dudley's Safe Jump / Option Select?

record your OS and play it back…then try to backdash from it.

OK, did some testing.

  • EX Jet Upper option select off a jump in is ass. It completely whiffs against backdashers. The only option select that actually works for punishing bachdashers on a safe jump is s.HP.

  • Throw tech option select: the really useful one here is down back+lp+lk+HP. This both techs throws and nails them if they are trying to walk up throw but haven’t completed the input yet. It also shuts down characters like Cammy and Rufus that depend on punishing throw option selects with dive kicks. Eliminates that part of their game completely.

Finally, f.MK into HP Jet Upper is a great option select on wake-up for punishing backdashes, but the main problem with this is you have to input the HP Jet Upper rather late. If the f.MK hits meaty (happens pretty often), there’s not enough time to react and go into a combo. Does anyone have a method of inputting this option select that lets you combo a low jab (or anything else) after f.MK without having to react, but still get the HP Jet Upper if they backdash?

Edit: If they read it, this option select is punishable by focus backdash (causes HP Jet Upper to whiff).

OK new one added. Basicly its the same as Golden’s towared Mp/ Corcscree cross, except with Rolling Thunder! Now when you push the kicks for rolling thunder, it will actuall make a TC come out after a connected toward MP, so you just push fierce afterwords.

So its a Toward Mp, Mp, Fp Target combo on hit, and a RT on backdash. The input is. :qcf::mp::qcf::3k::hp:

But bonus. This also stops some Teleports. Heres the results:

Dicatitor: stops 4/4 teleports. auto corrects

Akuma: stops 1/4 teleports. does not auto correct, so it only stops his short back teleport. (also his long back teleport if hes by the corner to stop him from going farther back then his short teleport would take him

Claw: Beats 3P backflip if started a few pixles outside of point blank range. 3K backflip and a PB range 3p back flip put claw saftleybehind you

Sim: auto corrects, but he still ends up behind you. Only stops back 2 teleports

Seth: auto corrects HIS teleports :frowning: ONly works on his toward punch teleport.

Abel’s EX roll: auto corrects but he blocks in time :frowning:

COdy: Will sometimes stop ex zonk knuckle. I dont know why sometimes. Its hit or miss even with the same locked dummy inputs and COdy reversal timing. Distance maybe?

and just for funnn

Note that there are 2 ways to time this. the first way is the RIGHT way. This way the timing is tight enough so that the toward MP will hit someone standing if they are holding up. and will punish reversal backdash.

The other way is to start it a bit later. This way if they hold up, they will jump out, but get hit on the way up and do the backflip back down. Also it wont stop reversal backdashes. But if they dont have perfect reversal timeing, they will get hit.

This small delay makes him auto corect when he sometimes wouldnt:

Dictator: still stops all teles

Akuma: now auto corrects and stops 3/4 teles. 4/4 if at that perfect distance from the corner

Claw: Now stops both backflips just outside point blank range.

If people are back dashing out of the HP Upper OS then you are doing it wrong. You need to walk forward just a tiny bit after the MK Duck.

Oh and I haven’t seen anyone mention this, but I don’t think you can consistently safe jump off a back throw. Simple reason being is the distance they travel is never the same. It is determined by Dudley’s position on the screen. They stop as soon as they hit the ‘wall’ and drop to the floor from there, so you could be a LK duck away, a MK duck away. 2 dashes away… it’s never consistent.

I’m a bit worried OSing against Rufus. J.HP OS EX Cross Counter is godlike against Messiah Kick on wake up, but if they start to realise and begin to back dash, you’re screwed.

As with his high/low mix up game it is A LOT of misdirection and intelligent guessing. The first time a Rufus player gets caught with OS EX Cross Counter they will never ever do EX Messiah on wake up again. So I start OSing with HP or EX Jet Upper to beat back dashes and Snake Strike. But it is still a 50/50 guessing game. Much like a lot of Dudley’s pressure options.

You can OS into Corkscrew Blow, but EX Messiah Kick beats that

This guy is hard work man!

And whoever told me you can OS Honda’s EX Buttslam with EX Jet Upper is a dirty liar.

i posted this in another thread, but safejumping RH into ducking will go under all of bisons wakeup options except EX scissors and U1. if you go under EX PC you can punish with EX MGB.

You can Duck under EX PC? Sick!

if your properly safe jumping near the top of bipson’s head, any variation of ducking should work, maybe lk will get tagged, i probably should tested it more extensively, but i like having 2 people around when i lab shit out.

I said it, and no I’m not.

Here’s my set-up.

Forward throw-> dash -> J. RH ~ EX Jet Upper

Beats EX Buttslam clean for one hit. If it’s not working for you, you’re doing something wrong.

doing it to EX buttslam is pretty easy, but the timing feels so tight against EX headbutt, i only get that shit like 50% of the time.

Really?

I’ve never been hit out of that OS against Honda in a real match.

weird i have the oposite problem. it stops headbut fine. but whiffs on buttslam as he goes in the other direction, and we both land about the same time

I did the recording for the EX Jet Upper OS. It beats EX Headbutt clean. Beats backdash perfectly. EX Buttslam sails through the EX Jet Upper though. They are both invincible. I get no hits from the EX Upper, they just pass through each other.

I was going to make a dudley OS guide with his target combos until i came across this thread.

I’d just add to the already cluttered dudley boards with a OS guide covering safe jump, reversals and backdashes.

let revive this thread for newbie dud like me…

Nice post above. Meaty Fwd.MK OS lp.JU, is my go to option select for backdash simply because it hits the majority of the cast and allows you to lk.ducking and be right in their face again before they’ve even got up.

It does work on Ibuki and Fei Long, you just have to be really close to their bodies when you perform the meaty attack. lp.JU has deceptively long horizontal range in comparison to the others.

i tried to go as close as possible to feilong upon the meaty but still cant catch him with lp & hp JU
