Now when he called these reset combos, thats where I get a little lost, so after i do them am I looking for them to crouch and I overhead? or throw? What exactly is the setups for these resets? Just a few examples would be helpful, thanks.
The idea is that if you want, you can finish the combo; however, at any point during the combo [for the most part] you might opt to reset with a throw, or overhead, or a low, depending on how your opponent react. It’s something that isn’t new to you if you’ve ever watch Marn. He will do a long string of many moves and sometimes if he thinks his opponents are not aware he might mix it up with an overhead. Except f.MK, s.HP. That shit is just cool.
shoutouts to f.MK being +6 on hit on crouching characters.
Thanks for explaining this to me. Yea ive watched alot of marn videos and I used to think he is dropping combos when he went for the overheads and throws out of nowhere lol.
so i’m trying to practice dudleys links…
f.hk > c.lp > st.hk > machine gun
or whatever requires you to link into a c.lp.
and I can only get it like 50% of the time, is there a specific timing for this?
tips besides practice?
All links have a specific timing, and wouldn’t you know it, the only way to learn that timing is with that magic word at th end of your post.
Practice.
ugh yea. landed it a few times in matches today. feels good man.
now i cant link it into machine gun. mainly when doing it from the left side…
more practice v.v
that feel when you dont drop combo and can go for resets.
yea its a great feeling when it all flows together. thats why I like dudley.
Use the 30-times-method. First start on the P1 side and do a combo (e.g. 2x cr.LP, st.HK xx MGB) 30 times succesfully. If it fails only once, start over. When you’ve done a combo 30 times on the P1 side, do it again from the P2 side. And that’s how you learn combo’s!
In your case I’d start with 5 - 8 reps. More would be discouraging for someone who can’t do the combo’s properly yet.
Hello gentlemen,
So, I recently picked up Dudley again(because I can never settle on a main, i have basically mained every character in the cast except Rose and C. Viper over the last few years) and am having tons of fun! I am having a few problems with some match-ups though and wondered if there was some quick tips i can get. Vs Guile- I seem to have a really hard time getting in and when i do it usually is because I do something unexpected(random when it doesn’t work but never fullscreen ex MGB or anything) and staying in is fairly simple. Anything besides predictive ducks and quick focus dashes? Vs. Chun- her damn pokes are so good, I can bait them sometimes and my usual frame traps seem to be countered.
Quick frame trap tips? i love to frame trap with Dudley, it’s just so much fun.
On a side note, I like to burn meter with Dudley on crazy gimmicks, I know it probably isn’t a good habit and i do keep it to a minimum, but what are your thoughts on it? For example, I will frame trap someone with f.mk into c.lp, s.hp, FADC, dash forward and go for mixup(throw, another frame trap, etc).
I really need to get off ranked and play with some decent players on endless…

If anyone wants to hop on and have some fun
Matchups: Matchup thread. Frame traps: Frame trap thread (though I think Thirtyfour renamed it to something stupid because it was getting off-topic. You can check the encyclopedia thread too). Burning meter on crazy gimmicks is generally a bad idea with any character, but the occasional random mixup is never a bad thing. There are probably more efficient ways to mix up though. In general, I guess you can just read through most of the threads here for ideas, there’s a lot of good info. There’s one for weekly endless battles, too.
That being said, welcome aboard! Glad to see another player trying to keep it classy.

Thanks! Yeah i figured i could surf through the threads, i was just curious if anyone was willing to give a few quick tips. To be honest I am a much more visual learner so I think just experiencing and seeing things in endless would help me out. I just want to get to a point where I feel like I am doing well and have experienced people to play, not just some random scrubs online that blow me up with mash reversal…
Against online scrubs, I keep it really simple. Poke with fierce and f.mp, simple meaty hit-confirms on wakeup. You’d be surprised how much mileage you can get out of jab, jab, pause against low level players online. Punish with s.HK xx EX MGB into whatever followups. I use online scrubs to work on fundamentals, so when I play people in person I don’t have to worry about it. For anything more advanced, like I said, the threads here are pretty good.
Getting a techable knockdown with Dudley is no better or worse than getting a hard knockdown. Discuss.
It depends on how close you are to the opponent when you get a techable knockdown. If you’re close, I like it better since you can easily set up meaties if they quickstand.
False,
EXMGB, duck > upper let’s you dash before your opponent even hits the ground. In fact you are able to dash 3 times before they can do anything on wake-up. After the 2nd dash you are already in their face.
I never said off of that since you can get close to your opponent as you said.
