Dudley Q&A: Let's learn... like Gentlemen!

Reading that his only mixup option is overhand, Abel has roll to the other side, TT, CoD etc… I do alot of wakeup games with Abel but maybe I should use different tactics with Dudley?

Well, if with Abel you confuse your opponent to wheter to block to the left, or to the right, with dudley you confuse them to block either low, or high, or throw them, of course.I think some videos of Kokujin should still hold up regarding mixups, so you could watch some.Just be aware that Short Swing Blow is not nearly as good as in 3rd strike,as you can be preatty easily hit/grabbed out of it.That’s what i heard, at least.

What’s Dudley’s most reliable anti air normal?

standing MK

How do you cancel Dudley’s uppercut after his cr.LP quick enough so that it connects? I just can’t get the motion out fast enough. Is there a trick to it? I believe myself not to be a total scrub, I can do DP, FADC into ultra without any difficulties. Maybe I just can’t do the cancel 'cos I only had a couple of hours of sleep last night. Who knows… All I know is that it’s frustrating as hell not to be able to do this BNB combo.

What do you guys feel are some of dudley’s good pokes/ tactics/ moves for getting in and applying pressure [or damage lol]?

I’d advise you to through GGM’s Dudley guide.

I fucking suck at using Rolling Thunder against fireball characters. How are you supposed to get in close enough to take advantage of it? (besides the duck)

You can just jump in if you are far away enough to not get punished by it. Or if they are throwing FBs from a distance you can always Focus in or block and walk in. If the opponent knows what they are doing they will usually stop throwing FBs when you are in range, so from there I guess you either have to condition them to throw a FB or wait for a poke and if you can find a pattern in their footsies punish them with your ultra.

I just finished Dudley’s trials (and Hakans!) but unfotunately the only advice I can give is to try and learn the bigger combos piece by piece and learn how to slowly put it together. It’s tedious but through doing that I’ve seen my ability to execute links improve drastically.

Just keep at it and it’ll happen. Do you use stick or pad? I should mention I just got a stick recently so that def. has had something to do with it.

Hey, can someone give me some of Dudley’s OSs? I know he has jump in fierce/roundhouse EX MGB, I read about f+fmk OS, any help?

the duck feels too slow to use to quickly dodge a medium to close range fireball, and if im way across the screen ducking a fireball doesnt move me much coser and leaves me open to another, if im up against a good projectile spammer. so i just try to jump or just block.

man i miss the parries haha it was great jumping a fireball then parrying away the jumping kick to punish them =*(

Once you get the timing and the spacing of your duckings it gets really nasty against FB spam, I usually focus at least one FB on the way in, mix up focus and ducking, gets you in and you build some Ultra meter for free. Keep your jump ins for that suprise factor, jump in rh to st rh to OMGWTFBBQ damage.

Add U1 to the mix and you become a FB spammers worst fugging nightmare.

Yeah, after I nail a shoto with a duck straight they QUICKLY adjust their game to either jumping in or playing low forward footsies.

Try to dance around mid-range with shotos and buffer the half-forward circle motion when moving forward. If you see a fireball, the motion is already buffered so just hit kick and PAWNCH them in the face.

indeed to the above posted, been mixing it around with the FA sometimes failing and eating a fireball, and with j.rh stuffing pretty much anything, closing down the gap doesnt take long.

I also found that if said fireball spammer is a little bit slow on their release, i can get in an ex.mgb before they can get their next fireball out (the animation ofr fireball begins just as i hit them and it cancels out and they take the full whack of the mgb)

Risky i know, but with that many flowchart kens and wanna-be flowchart-ken Ryu’s around, you never know if they are gonna fireball spam, or throw out a random ultra, or a full screen tatsu, or full screen ait tatsu, or a sweep or another jump back (and attempt air fireball)… shit is wired up. I have so many problems agains flowchart twats you wouldn’t believe. Its impossible to condition them or play mind games because they just dont have the brain capacity, shit is a 100mph and all over the freaking screen!

Fun though

The thing is, you don’t have to condition flowchart players. If you punish their fireballs with ducking and anti-air them with s.mk/EX Jet Upper/ultra 2, then either they continue doing these things and giving you free damage or they start playing footsies.

Once you learn to punish all the dumb things flowcharts do the only thing you have to worry about is random reversals, and you can bait those by standing next to them on their wakeup. If they don’t do a reversal they’ll just be blocking so just immediately throw them.

I wouldn’t do something as risky as full-screen EX MGB to catch a fireball on prediction unless I was either 100% sure the fireball was coming or I was down on life and needed to take a risk to come back. And against flowcharts you don’t need to take risks, they’ll kill themselves if you give them the chance.

Sup guys.

Noob question

When someone says ‘punish with a ducking’

what does that even mean? The sentence feels incomplete.

I know how to duck with dudley, and I know that there are two followups to the duck. But I read stuff like ‘blocked ducking’ and ‘punish with ducking’

what does that even mean… how do you block a duck

Im not sure about the “blocked ducking” perhaps referring to a blocked ducking straight? Or the act of ducking in then just blocking so you can punish?

“Punish with ducking” would be for situations where you need to move forward to land the hit to punish something, most obviously a fireball/projectile.

Ah ,makes sense thanks

Any tips of avoiding getting tick thrown? DOn’t say tech them because they’re not so easy to spot. I don’t mean jab jab walk up throws I mean Ryu style 1 jab and instathrows. None of Dudleys moves can interrupt this throw it seems.
