Dudley Q&A: Let's learn... like Gentlemen!

I ain’t any of those dudes, but if you’re going to look to blow up a crouch tech why wouldn’t you just do a frame trap with st. roundhouse? Backswing blow gives you 120 damage and no combo options. CH st.roundhouse gives you short empty duck > st.roundhouse xx combo.

f.MK f.MK
f.MK cr.HP

better options to beat delayed crouch techs

They’re better but there’s less room for error with the inputs. I’m a safe dude except for the random troll empty duck Ultra 2.

Try it against Abel roundhouse wheel kick on hit. It’s supposedly -7.

I tested it for you, whoever told you that is a liar.

Trying to understand some frame data, maybe someone can help out:

Ken’s lp dp has 3 frames of invincibility, and a 4 frame startup. To my knowledge this should mean he can’t use that move to prevent a meaty overhead. However, when I play one of my mates, my meaty overhead always trades or loses to his lp dp. What gives?

do this set-up:

c.mk, take a quick step back, jf.hk

Ken’s lp and hp dp will lose to this if you do it right. You will not trade. It seems like you are just messing up the timing.

I finally got around to testing this today and… WOW. This isn’t strenuous on my hands at all! :woot:

Does this game actually have auto-block for blockstrings?

For true blockstrings, yes. However, if something has to be blocked a certain way (overheads and lows) you have to shift your blocking even if it was a true blockstring. This is why Daigo does cr.lp xx cr.lk xx cr.lp with Ryu to catch people that try to stand up during the middle of the blockstring or try to mash.

Some of these may have been asked before, but I’ve trawled through a fair bit of this FAQ and have not found them yet. I’m new to Dudley and am currently being weened off of Boxer, so go easy on me… Here I go.

Off Ex MGB what is optimal, double tapping the duck link, or plinking it?

What parts of Dudley execution are ideal to double tap?

What parts of Dudley execution are ideal to plink?

What are a couple of option selects that every Dudly player should have in their arsenal?

Other than F+MK to whatever, what are some essential Dudley frame traps?

Other than Marn, what Dudleys are reccomended for youtube viewing?

Thanks guys, hope you can help.

Plink

None

Every link into st. roundhouse which is basically every link

Liver blow > Ultra2/jab mgb/fierce jet upper

crouch jab frame tap, only for crouch teching

No damn clue.

Cheers mate.

iperu

even though he’s better known for his fuerte, he has a really good dud

Having difficulty with s.rh xx srk.

Is it safe to assume there isn’t a shortcut due to f.rh?

It’s just a matter of needing faster execution. Not sure if you’ve ever played SFII or even 3rd Strike, but the windows for cancelling into a special were a A LOT stricter than in SFIV. And even in those games it was possible to cancel out of moves without using shortcuts.

But if you’re still relatively new to the game, SFIV doesn’t only have large input windows but also an insane amount of ridiculous shortcuts. A DP (:dp:) shortcut that I recommend for you is :df:, :df:, :p:. That should make your life way easier.

Do st.HK xx Jet Upper slowly. it isnt a fast cancel

Whoever told you Abel’s wheel kick is -7 on hit was talking a bag of old shite, it is -5

Shoryuken.com wiki says Abel’s roundhouse wheel kick is -7 on hit. If it was -5 I wouldn’t be able to punish it with st.fierce and I definitely have done that.

It depends on spacing. If it hits later in the move it’s safer.

lol I wholeheartedly apologise. sfframedata.com is complete nonsense.

I just checked eventhubs frame data to confirm as well

You sir, are truly a gentleman.

attention if done on pad.DF DF punch is not dp.On stick, you’ll almost all the time get an untintenional down input, which makes the srk register, but on pad, i always do DF DF clean, which doesn’t activate de dp.
