Dudley Q&A: Let's learn... like Gentlemen!

Can you do Guile’s flash kick? Same thing.

are dudley’s target combos useless? or are some actually practical in a match

You use them as blockstrings and they are an easy way to hit confirm into super.

fwd.fp > cr.lp links right? or is it just st.fp?

fwd.fp > cr.lp links on Counter hit or off a meaty setup only iirc

depends u can use dudley target combos in combos like u can f.mk,target combo lp,mp,lp,st.hk,ex mgb or just using for preferences

Hey guys. I’m trying to pick Duds as an alt, however I came across a very curious problem with him. I play on a PS3 pad, I play fgs on pad ever since forever and SF2 xP

But for some reason Duds is the only char that will randomly throw MGBs, SSBs, Duckings and Cross Counters whenever I start to dance back and forward and play footsies, needless to say that totally screws up my game on so many levels. o_O

Is just me or have this happened to you guys? Any tips on how to get around that, cuz I like footsies. T_T

Yeah it fucks me up all the time when i try to use fwd+mk cr.lp frame traps, you just have to be more precise with your inputs.

Is there a way to combo into U2 so the animation screen shows up

If you FADC the last hit of EX Shortswing Blow in the corner you can land the full animation. Apart from that only FA crumple or deep jump in HP/HK as far as I know.

There was a combo video of FADC’ing Ducking uppers into full ultra…
It was a marathon run from one side of the map to the other.
I think it’s something similar to landing U1 off Kens SRK on non counterhit.

Alrite. il check the video thread. it might be there if not ill find it somehow on youtube lol.

Some message I got from a scrubby Akuma player, after giving him “the business” with Dudley. Thought that perhaps you guys might find this as funny as I did.

@East I would just reply with “Learn to play like a gentleman”

New forum member

Hey guys, new member to the forums here. Since picking up SSF4 I’ve been playing Dudley a lot. I find that he’s a fun character to play, different from who I usually play with in past SFs (Ken or Akuma). I’m just a casual player, mostly PSN, but I’m definitley interested in getting better with Dudley, since I rarely see any players using him as a main. I really wish they used a different actor for the English voiceover though :wtf:

Just ordered my first fightstick in the mail (just a Hori FS 3), hoping to get better once I practice with it.

I noticed that I don’t like to stick to just one character, so I’m not really decent with anyone in particular, but I’m comfortable with most.

I have a lot of reading ahead of me!

The combo with the straight into full ultra is off an anti-air level three focus.

Hmmm…well for me I started out like you…how’s your play style with Boxer(Balrog)? It’ll probably be a bit difficult for you to pickup Dudley if you’re not originally a SF3 player, I know my first month or so I was frustrated transitioning from Dudley to Balrog, especialy since I was so used to going through about everything my opponent could throw at me with Balrogs’ specials.

Some tips I can give when adjusting to Dudley:

-Ducking Straight/Upper and Rolling Thunder are your go to moves when going through projectiles

-EX Jet Upper is one of Dudley’s most reliable wake-up options that has good priority

-High Forward(MK)and Low Roundhouse(HK), along with EX Jet Upper are his most reliable AA(Anti-Air)at times even F + Roundhouse at a distance is a great AA

-High Roundhouse xx EX Machine Gun Blow, Short/Forward Ducking Feint/Upper/Straight

-Low Jab, Low Strong xx (EX)Machine Gun Blow, Ducking Feint/Upper/Straight

-Low Strong or High Roundhouse xx Ducking Feint/Upper/Straight

For the first two combos you’d use Ducking Feint for reset while the other two can end with Rocket Uppercut or Corkscrew Cross. Otherwise if your opponent keeps blocking use Ducking Feint to go in for a throw.

So I’ve been playing a lot of Dudley lately and noticed a couple things.

  1. FA crumple lv 2, dash forward, f+mk misses on Dan if you do the f+mk early. His hitbox is reeling awkwardly - you have to wait a fraction of a sec.
  2. FA crumple lv 2, dash back, c.mk, hp JU xx super connected on ryu mid-screen. Looked damn cool; pretty sure super didn’t connect for full hits.

I’d like to know some good combos off of a focus crumple backdash. Been using c.mk, lp mgb (juggle). There’s gotta be something better.

FA2 crumple, backdash,

  • ducking upper
  • dash/duck/walk fwd, hp(ex) JU
  • dash/duck/walk fwd, c.mk, super
  • dash/duck/walk fwd, ultra 2
  • ultra 1

For FA lvl 3’s, the crumple lasts long enough to land a full ex MGB even if you backdashed.

Does anyone have any better followups to FA2 crumple backdash?

Under what circumstances can Dudley do C.HK in corner twice after EX MGB i believe i seen Marn do it before…but i dunno if it’s character specific, distance, etc.

Works on any character, but some are easier than others. Balrog is easy as balls to do it on, you barely have to time it.
