(dual modded) PS3 Hori RAP V3-SA problems

Hi everyone,

Hoping I can once again rely on your help.

I have a PS3 Hori RAP V3-SA that’s been dual modded for around a year, maybe two. It’s been working great.
Since this past Monday though, it’s been giving me some really strange problems on the PS3.

  1. If I plug it in after a game’s started (game in question is DoA5U and SF4AE), the only button that responds is the PS button. After I get into the menu, I can change my controller number and use the x/o/tri/[ ] but outside of it, I can’t.

  2. If I plug it in during the XMB, all buttons work fine in the XMB menu. But I’m unable to test the start and select button.

  3. If I try playing a PS game (King of Fighters `99 is my example), all buttons work except for the start button.

  4. If I try playing a PS3 game (Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is my example), I am stuck at the screen where it says : This game has an auto-save feature. Press x to OK. I am unable to press X. No buttons work except the PS button. Again, after i press that for the menu, everything`s fine.

Here’s what i’ve tried:

  1. At first I thought I had it on the xbox360 setting, but I tried to plug it in as xbox360 mode and it rejected it.
  2. I’ve tried two different PS3s (one fat, one slim)
  3. I’ve opened it up but not touched/moved anything, just to inspect and make sure that none of the wires are broken.
  4. I’ve tested it on my xbox360 (King of Fighters XIII and Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 (technically not a fighting game, I know) were my test) and all the buttons work fine EXCEPT for the start button.

I’m grateful for whatever insights this forum can bring and I thank you in advance,
Rin

Sounds like there might be a wire loose on the inside.

Hmmm. I’ve double checked the connections visually and it looks fine. Is there a way to verify the connections?

get a multimeter, they are pretty much standard required tools for us here at tech talk. A cheap one runs $10 to 15 bucks

set it to test resistor or diode test and see if there any continuity (no breaks) in each wire
