Dreamcast, I need help!

I need to replace the motor for the spindle. I don’t know how to take it out though, it has like one screw that I already took out, but I don’t see what else is holding it. Any help would be appreciated guys.

I’m running into the exact same shit. I’ll let you know if I find out anything helpful. Good luck we gotta keep these things alive.

Hey, I’m curious about this. Do you use a regular spindle motor? Or it has to be a official Sega one?

bump.

i know people have done this fix. help us out!

Hey Snake,

I figured out how to take out the spindle motor, but I wound up opting not to remove when I saw how it was held in place. The little bugger is glued in with some kind of plastic-cement.

To even get to the point where you’ll see the cement you have to take out that one (or two?) obvious screw/s, then use a tiny metric allen wrench to get out those two threaded bits sticking out, then use a screwdriver to pop the metal piece (that the screws were in) off. Theres also a small metal clip you need to pop off with a flathead down low.

There’s a lot to this, and I just opted to swap out the whole drive :\

Now I got a new problem though–

The new drive I put in is one out of the 2nd gen. Chinese made models, and this one has the lens adjustment screw GLUED into place. Anybody run into this garbage? My shit now runs, but not at the right clip to actually get past the initial loads.

Edit:

I was able to move it with a pair of pliers. Inadvertently modded it-- I squashed it pretty good BUT it’s now the perfect shape to be adjusted with a reg. flat head driver. Happy accident :looney:
