Tonights sketch. Did a bunch of womenās faces to level that up but Iāve still got a long way to go until I feel comfortable enough to share those. Blue pencil for the layout and quick underdrawing and graphite on top (HB lead)
Thing is, I suck ass at drawing.
I drew a lot when I was a kid, but that was thenā¦ THIS IS NOW!! (that book sucked)
I love the author here writing this book, and she feels like ANYONE can draw, and during her 30+ years of teaching, she was trying to figure out her students. Itās interesting reading the first part on her view points on new students trying to figure out how to get them to draw. Very interesting analysis and itās pointing errors with my current drawing abilities and I havenāt even gotten to the first example.
EDIT: I wanna finish the book and draw up whatever I can to see if I can learn anything from it.
Iāll post results hopefully within 2 weeks.
So, doing lessons from the book āDrawing on the Right Side of your brainā and following along with the 2 hour video posted on YouTube, I canāt seem to get the Hand Drawing part correct.
Basically, youāre told to trace your hand upon plastic with a viewfinder.
After tracing it, copy it from your viewfinder to a piece of paper and go on from there. My problem is, the shapes are always off, some fingers come off as way too big, and others way too small. I notice this being an issue in previous exercises of my drawings, but I canāt seem to get the size/shape right. Anyway to fix this?
Just want to point out, Iāve been looking at other beginner books and books that are intended for people whoāve never draw in their life but want to learn to draw, and Iād have to say āDrawing on the Right Side of your brainā is by FAR the best book for beginners.
Other art books kinda throw you into the drawing without explaining too much or hope you obtain the idea what theyāre doing. Drawing on the Right Side of your Brain has you draw a various interesting methods. Rather than have you go straight into drawing said image, the book makes you draw other things such as objects and shapes, so when the real drawing begins, it makes sense why the authorās instructions are presented the way they are. Really good read, and can show that anyone can draw if they put the time into it.
I want this topic to be more active. Everyone should learn to draw, please.
Well, final bump. Actually, Iāll bump again a month from now (unless this topic becomes activeā¦ which would be coolā¦ wishful thinkingā¦) with some of my SHITTY WORK, as Iām still learning basicsā¦ ish? Sort of? Not really? Well I think itās basic.
Iāll try to post as often as possible. Iām currently trying to purchase a 2000 mega pixel camera for Ā£500. The problem with this thread seems to be some of us are too worried about posting work that isnāt to the best of our abilities.
I know long term, I was to adopt a style thatās retro-cartoonish, something like Stephen Silverās work. But in the mean time, but Iāve been grinding life art since that seems to be the best way to level up your drawing skills.
Looking up Vilppuās manual for more interesting ideas and might read up on The Art Spirit since it seems to have really good notes on how to fix several minor issues on drawing.
Very nice contributions to this thread. I have been contemplating getting back into drawing/sketching and just purchased a sketchbook a few days ago. Looking toward making a few contributions to this thread also.
The problem I mostly have is staying motivated, that and proportions, I can draw from my head, but I honestly canāt finish a better drawing in less than six hours
What type of drawing style are you trying to get into? Iām always informed that you should always go back and ātryā the style you prefer every now and then, while grinding. Doing so, youāll remember that love and wanting to draw again. Oddly enough, I guess Iām still at the level where I can draw āboring shitā and be fineā¦ I DUNNO!
And more on the face thing, some dude became a beast at drawing in 2 years. People be like āyooo, how you draw so well? Nigga, youz a god at faces too!ā and he was like āLAWL! ALL I DID WAS DRAW FRUIT ALL FUCKIN DAY!!ā soā¦ who knows.
Hey wasup. I used to draw back in jr high and high school but havenāt really drawn since. But Iāve started working on an idea for a fighting game with my brother. I want to start drawing up some characters. I have a lot of ideas, but when it comes to drawing a complete person I struggle. Any tips for drawing limbs and body types? And drawing hair on a character? etc?
Sounds like youāre having trouble drawing characters period. Would you happen to have a sample of your work? Posting that up will be the best way to determined what could be wrong.
