Drawing/Sketching fundementals thread

CA.org was one of my favorite sites…until a few years ago, hate the redesign also. Anyway great use of shading to give volume to your drawing.

Damn i really need to get of my lazy ass haha.

Great work! When you do the lighting and shading what goes through your mind in terms of keeping the lighting source consistent? And yeah CA has a lot of talkers

@Taito‌

Not bad at all. You definately excelled at what you focused on. Your contrast could be stronger since your light source is very intense. Areas like under the crab and it’s left side could use darker shades.

I agree with the shading technique, however. I would’ve picked that same one.

Try to determine your light source (the sun, artificial light, multiple lights), and as a guide, to draw radial lines coming from that source.

It also helps to break everything down to basic shapes like boxes, spheres, pyramids and cylinders (picture people like they’re characters from Virtua Fighter 1), understand how they react to light and shadow, then add realistic details later on.

I’ll echo the recommendation to practice by using as many real life references (or photographs) as possible. Drawings, depending on the style/medium, stand out when lighting, perspective, weight distribution resembles life.

Gomu, that dude looks like Guy Ritchie film!Sherlock Holmes if he was in the modern day.
I like it!

That land-battleship(dunno for sure, close enough IMO) has a distinctive Advance Wars tank vibe, Taito,
that’s some good shit.

ah…

ok.
look bro.
like…I cant tell if you created this thread just to troll everyone that posts up here, if you did just to do exactly that…

  • tips hat in respect if that’s your intent* or if you are dead serious about being a stickler with these rules of yours.

but if trolling your own thread, if that wasn’t your intentions when forging the thread then I dunno what to tell you.
cuz,
I’m really really REALLY trying to help your thread out.
not because its YOUR thread…but because its a art thread specifically in GD and because the GD subforums is the most popular and viewed subforum people who generally don’t visit the image mishmash section of SRK can participate, partake, get inspired, get turned on artistically.
whether its getting their artistic flair reignited or what not…having a visual art related thread in GD is a good thing.

but then you keep blocking everyone and keeping people out with these “rules” you needlessly conjured up to inhibit people from participating in this thread, its like you want your own thread to die or something.
I sincerely think you would prefer the thread to die than to just leave everyone alone.

me, and others here who participated in keeping your thread alive…we didn’t post up our artwork for our sake, we did it for the sake of keeping this art thread alive in GD.
that’s the only reason I decided to share.
something I would normally never bother to do.
cuz I think having a art related thread and having it stay alive and not die quickly and forgotten and doomed to get off the front page of the GD forums…is important. or at least just a good thing.
ie,
I didn’t post up my artwork for my sake,
I did it for your sake.
like everyone here.

but then,
you keep popping up,
with that damn avatar of yours,
that avatar of some Futurama chicken as a professor with its finger up in a scolding motion,
and you keep popping up chastising people for not…“following the rules” and its like…a real turn off man.
you do NOT…repeat
DO
NOT
inspire people to get creative.

if your career was that of an art teacher,
you would make,
for a horrible horrible art teacher.
no joke.
I’m serious.

what I’m trying to say Sexy is,
chillax dude.
just chillax with the rules and the chastising and scolding people for deviating somewhat from those rules you conjured up.
your killing your own thread man, with your 'tude.

saying your threads are “not for everyone” insinuating your threads are for some chosen few…a niche crowd,…some elitist bullshit nonsense…and not even being thankful to others like Neesa for taking time out of her day by posting her lovely work in keeping your thread alive…
its incredibly pompous man.

are you on drugs?
or just plain insane?
like for real though.

Saying my thread isn’t for everyone isn’t insinuating that it’s for a chosen few. Its simply for people who decide to follow the rules. Everyone seems to have accepted the rules and that’s a good thing.
Remember what I said about posting your artwork in a different thread? I even provided a link, or, you can always start your own thread.
If you don’t like the rules please post somewhere else.

Taito, your work doesn’t look bad at all. That Crab-Tank looks like something out of metal slugs.

Momiji. Wish the nose turned out better

it was a mistake to post my art in this thread.
a mistake I regret.
so I corrected my mistake.

peace.

Goddamn photobucket resized the pic

Very well done design. I’m assuming her hair, skin, and clothing are all light colors or just white, so I won’t say much about contrast.

Your proportions are what I’m leaning towards for my story, instead of common manga where heads may appear large and bodied are very skinny lol.

Any of you had luck attending life drawing sessions?

here’s an interesting read.

I used to have some life drawing classes in art school. Took some when I moved back home but haven’t had the chance to go to one in a long time.

Did a couple face studies today. I think one of my problems is lack of visual library which I have to level up.

Checked out a video on mastering stick figure and mannequin bases for drawing people.

Really glad that I did this because it will help me with getting simple poses down without screwing up proportions and what not. I’ll be focusing on this for a few more days, but I did mock up a sketch of Ming Hua from The Legend of Korra.

:u: Can you explain the spoilered sketches to a guy who never really took formal art classes? What’s the “name” and process for the figure sketches?
