I think that this could be a good help for some people, i have to say that i agree with a lot of the stuff that he says about the pawn inclinations though i have the order of inclinations for my pawn a little different (when is a sorcerer)

Trying to get a handle on what would be considered the best inclinations for pawns of different classes. I know there are some inclinations that are generally regarded as bad, but I’m curious how well they’d actually work on different pawns.

I’ve got the very basic write-up for what each inclination does here:

What I’m curious about, though, is people’s personal experiences in regards to how different inclinations ACTUALLY react, especially between different classes.

Also figured this would be a good place to direct people who are constantly asking "Which inclination is best for an -insert class- pawn?"
As far as I’ve seen, these tend to be the better inclinations for classes to have:

Fighter: Scather, Mitigator
Warrior: Scather, Mitigator
Mage: Utilitarian, Medicant for healing ; switch in Mitigator or Challenger for a more offensive caster.
Sorcerer: Mitigator, Challenger, Utilitarian
Strider: Mitigator, Challenger ; switch in Utilitarian if you want more CC ; Scather if you want them to melee more.
Ranger: Mitigator, Challenger ; switch in Utilitarian for CC.

Random observations about certain inclinations:

Mitigator: Seems to be a good inclination for any sort of damage dealer. Everytime I’ve used this inclination, my pawn has consistently and methodically attacked every creature on the field. Since there’s always a weakest creature, they’re always attacking. They also seem to use more appropriate skills more often and use AoE attacks on grouped up monsters.

Challenger: Seems a good option for ranged damage dealers. I’ve noticed that if it’s on a melee character, they’ll spend more time chasing down some of these ranged enemies rather than helping the rest of the group, since ranged enemies tend to run away a lot. Since ranged damage dealers can comfortably deal with them, though, then it’s a good option. I’ve noticed that my pawns are hesitant to attack melee enemies after the mages/archers and such are dead, though. They’ll spend some time circling around the battlefield before finally attacking a non-ranged target. But, hey, at least they’re not running into melee range and getting slaughtered.

Scather: Good for tanking characters, since they get the attention of the big guy and get it right away. Unfortunately, for big creatures, I’ve noticed that this makes them climb creatures much more often, which might not be the best strategy. This inclination also makes my ranged classes favor their melee weapons instead of the snazzy new bows I got them. Also will 'cause things like your Sorcerer running up to climb on the face of an Ogre instead of killing it with fire. I’d say good for Fighters/Warriors, but not really good for the rest.

Utilitarian: Mages/Sorcerers buff more, Striders/Rangers use more CC, Fighters/Warriors use more taunts. There isn’t really much I can see wrong with Utilitarian. One of my personal favorites for inclinations. Watch out if you combine it with Medicant with mages, though, since they tend to just sit around once you’ve been buffed and they’re not needed for healing. Unless that’s what you want.

Medicant: Good for healers, but I wouldn’t recommend it as primary unless you want a Mage that’s OCD about keeping every last sliver of health up on your bar. Turns Striders/Rangers into chickens, but they’ll keep at range, which is helpful if you find your Ranger going into fisticuffs too often. Generally bad for melee types, as they’ll try to keep themselves out of danger. Not horrible for tanks, though, since they’ll be a lot more defensive and tend to look out for whichever party member currently has the least health. Wouldn’t recommend it for Sorcerers, since they’ll spend A LOT of time canceling casts to get out of the way of an enemy that looked at them funny.

Guardian: Generally considered to be bad, even though it sounds good at first. They make it sound like that particular pawn will always come to your aid if you’re getting your butt handed to you. Instead, what it actually means is that they’ll stick to that aforementioned butt and it takes an act of God to get them off. If you’re a ranged character with a ranged pawn, or a melee character with a melee pawn, then it’s not a bad inclination, since the pawn will go where you go. It’s good for forcing ranged characters to use their ranged attacks too, but only if you’re also at range. Never mix and match, unless you want your mage wading knee deep into goblin muck with you, or you want your fighter standing back and picking his nose while you cast spells.

Nexus: Same deal as Guardian, but more varied, since there are two people they can stick to. Tends to cause my pawn to just chill out with the healing mage while I wreck face. I don’t like this on any of my pawns, but I hear mixed feelings about it on the boards 'cause the pawn acts less predictable, so sometimes they actually do things right.

Pioneer: Generally hated. If you mix this with any of the combat inclinations (Scather, Mediator, Challenger) expect your pawn to get into a ton of scraps without your permission. Definitely bad on ranged damage dealers, since I’ve noticed they tend to wade into melee a lot more often when they have this inclination. Not too bad for melee types, though. Put Pioneer and Scather onto a high level warrior and you’ve got your own autonomous wrecking ball. It’s always fun to casually walk through the strewn corpses of your enemies before you even knew they were there. Don’t try this early on, though, unless you’re VERY confident in your warrior, or you’ll just be constantly raising the guy’s chomped hide from the dead after he tries to solo a Chimera or some such.

Acquistor: Good for convenience, generally bad for everything else. If you REALLY hate picking up items on your own, then feel free to grab this. Most effective with a large pawn. Just be warned that your pawn will constantly disengage from the enemy, to the point of stopping a spell midcast, if there’s any sort of loot hanging about. Especially if it’s their primary. I had a pawn that let my entire party die 'cause she was busy picking up skulls in a cavern. She’d start to cast a healing spell, then the ogre would break apart a chest revealing a rock, or potion, or other shiny object and she’d cancel the cast, throw me a ‘You can deal with the monster’ message and go to pick it up. If you’re really lazy and don’t care about your pawn’s combat effectiveness, put Acquisitor Primary, Pioneer Secondary, and watch your pawn strip mine all of Gransys.

Anywho, that’s been my experience with the inclinations so far. I’m curious about everyone else’s experiences and opinions on good inclinations for the different classes.

The only true way to revive this game, is for motha fuckin’ Capcom to release this game on PC.

I got it on my Xbox 360, but it feels wrong playing non-fighting games on console.
That, or maybe I just want my full 60 FPS and non-letter box experience.

Something else to note, when your pawn has been around long enough you will start to notice tertiary inclinations as well. Of course that 3rd inclination will be much less strong, but for example, I have Pioneer and Scather on my pawn because he’s pretty buff, but I also leave healing items on him and he almost always heals me after I take a big hit, just like a Medicant.

In fact, it’s quite possible that all inclinations simply have an invisible exp bar or something because you’ll also notice MORE behaviors than just three. It will take a lot of playtime to reach that though, so for a while your pawn will lack any real versatility.

It seems that the other pawns on your party can affect how your main pawn acts and the longer they stay with you the longer they influence your pawn even allowing for the inclinations to change

Yeah, that’s correct too, but it’s at a much lower level I think. I could be wrong, but I’ve never noticed much difference even when sticking with the same pawn for a long time

Yeah, Pawns will only change their secondary inclination just by hanging around other Pawns. Their main Inclination will stay the same unless you change it yourself. It is best to have the inclination potions in your storage with you at all times because it will change suddenly and without notice so keep an eye out on your pawns Inclination at all times.

New file Hard mode run going fine so far.

Switched to a Mystic Knight and it’s pretty fun. Also, you get so much Gold in Hard mode.
