Dragon's Crown (Chun-li has been dethroned as Queen of Thighs)

You’re talking about animation in the broad sense. I was talking about the technique, which is manipulating segmented, static images, instead of the usual frame-by-frame 2D animation. Then I explained what I meant already. I don’t know what the big deal is.

Because you started you previous post with the statement ā€œIt’s not really animation.ā€ It is animation just a different technique.

I’m gonna keep saying ā€œit’s not really animationā€ because it’s clear what I’m talking about in the context of 2D video games. People who want another playable cartoon like 3S aren’t satisfied with Killzone Shadow Fall, just because it has great animation.

So you’re going to keep making misleading statements using the general term ā€œanimation,ā€ when you’re actually just talking about the technique, because you assume people know what you’re talking about? As opposed to just stating that it’s a different technique from the get go.

@Taito
LMAO

I see where Taito is coming from but looking at the stuff I can’t go as far as saying ā€˜It’s not really animation’. The marionette technique that you’re talking about looks like it varies from character to character in how it’s used. Looking at the characters, it looks like the Knight is where they abuse it the most even if he is still the most impressive. Most of the characters are far more alive than just having pieces move especially when it comes to angles on body parts or clothing when walking, specifically the Sorceress, the Magician and the Dwarf. Biggest example is the shoulder area for the Magician while he’s walking where you can see the back and front of his clothes as he’s walking, that’s definitely animation even if it’s something akin to a gif that’s been placed in that area underneath whatever layer the hood is on.

Does the Knight really move that slowly? Gonna be a pain in the ass waiting for him to move screen to screen. Dwarf though walkin like a BOSS. He’s my first pick for sure if I ever get to play this game. Those two chicks need to chill with that shit, that’s just too much lol.

Steam release plz. I don’t expect you to deal with MS bullshit policies, but Steam release PLZ.

Have they mentioned if this will have cross-buy between Vita and PS3?

They haven’t, but both versions interact with each other perfectly and save files work on both version.

I don’t know if Vanillaware used Adobe AfterEffects for the sprites, but you can accomplish the same look with that program. Somebody from Udon Comics made ā€œHD spritesā€ of 3S characters, it looks the same as the sprites in this game but with less segmentation and far less detail. There’s a lot of ways you can stretch/pull an image to simulate ā€œanimationā€ (I don’t know what other word to use, fuck y’all) without drawing an image more than once, but VWare was smart enough to either use traditional hand drawn animation, or maybe cg, for details like cloth ripples.

No… it’s because Pong has silky smooth animation, but it isn’t the type of ā€œanimationā€ I was talking about or anyone cares about.

If it moves then it’s animation. To say otherwise is splitting hairs and being pedantic. I get what Taito is saying tho, they use a lot of tricks to make animations easier.

To the guy who said they wanted a fighter that used this kind of animation technique check out The Rumble Fish series. They use this kind of animation technique for the characters in that fighting game, and even went the extra mile and made it so each individual part could sustain visual damage, due to how this technique eases up on the animation process. Very cool, would like to see more 2D games attempt this.

God damn. You guys are nerds.

Yeah, The Rumble Fish and Gundam Battle Assault are the two fighters that came to mind, for me.

You’re essentially saying that they used animation techniques to simulate animation therefore it’s not real animation? I seriously don’t know. Your arguments are a disjointed mess.

DAMNIT! No cross-platform play from Vita to PS3: http://www.siliconera.com/2013/03/25/dragons-crown-reaches-u-s-this-summer/

Man… that sucks. Also, unless things change, I’m not going to have the free income to buy this game new when it comes out anyway. :frowning:

IMO, it’s the worst animated ass I’ve ever seen.

the bounce for the walking animation is quite accurate but the overall shape makes no since in more ways than one. also, it’s too distracting for all the wrong reasons. the thighs seem sharp where they should have a more of a curve. the lower half of her body just doesn’t flow, but looking at the witch with juggernaut breast gives more reason to say, ā€œmeh, it’s just a game I guessā€. It’s a good attempt at making a ā€œAsian PAWGā€ or whatever that this art direction was trying to attempt but it’s not to my liking at all.

If you’re familiar with Vanillaware’s style this is pretty much just a natural progression. These characters still aren’t on the level of exaggeration as Odette in Odn’s Sphere or Raijin in Muramasa.

Media keeps reporting that the NA/EU Vita release is only local multiplayer. After a year plus delay, it’s getting released only on Sony systems, one of which nobody bought, and only one seems to have online. 2d games really are at the bottom of the totem pole.
