Holy fuck. I’m sold. Loving the fanservice to classic DB. #8 vs #16…too good.
Although, they need to make a DBZ game with Bulma as a playable character. And have her be stronger than the entire cast. THE ENTIRE CAST.

I think they should remake dragonballz legends. But anyway. I hope the ps2 version is online, Even though we know it wont be
God man…i can’t wait for this game…And was that a new collision battle that will actually be in the game that i saw between goku and frieza? That shit’s gonna be tight!
Game looks great! Hopefully. I have my eye on King Vegita and That Female Sayin with the Great Ape! (Where is she from anyway) and yeah hopefully the Androids get an upgrade in rank, mainly Gero and 17. Of course this si coming from a big Android fan so I’ll take what I can get!
Interesting…very interesting. They truly seemed to go above and beyond in the way of presentation, both for the game engine and the aesthetics (story mode and etc.) this time. I just hope that the “What if’s” you can get will actually all be interesting this time around, and actually may go on for more than like a few episodes. The whole “My Big Bro, Raditz” arc from the last game was probably my fave of the like, and I wished that they could have at least had the What If extend into at least the Frieza saga arc.
On another note…two questions:
As popular and well-selling as I’m sure this game is…why has Spike and/or Bandai-Namco been loathe to try this game out in the arcades? The way I see it, this game could at LEAST be as viable a game as the Gundam vs. games, if not arguably moreso, because Dragon Ball probably is like the most popular Shounen franchise of all time. If they haven’t already deduced plans to try it there, I would humbly suggest it. It would be nice to see a dedicated arcade scene for this game. It could only do more to help cement its position as a bona fide Vs. game, and do more to defeat the opinions of those who thought of it merely as a “fan service game”.
…where’s the Create-a-char? I think this game pretty much puts in EVERYBODY who threw a punch, kick, ki-blast or long-winded monologue detailing their origin/sob story/ambitions in the entire DB-verse. Where else can they go from here? Personally, I would have thought that they would have added this feature in a long time ago (if not this game), just for the sake of it, if nothing else. I would have loved to create my own Namek or Android…but I guess getting a FEMALE Saiyajin was already something that they thought was something else.
Any way…I suppose I’ll dip in one more time…when I get the money for the import version. I gotta have my JP voices and OST…
I don’t see how they can put in future gohan and not make a future 17 and 18 while there at it.
Are there really enough differences between the two sets of 17 and 18, which would actually warrant a designated space on the roster, and not just a nice costume swap?
I mean, what’s next? Request the Future Trunks from the “3rd timeline” that killed the two androids, but then got killed by Cell?
Why not, every new character is welcome for me.
The big brother Raditz story was very good and actually brought a tear to my eye especially when
Spoilers!
Raditz talked to his father and his father said he still saw him as his son no matter what and also when Raditz gave his life to kill Nappa and Vegeta. Funimation should have had that story arc made into a DBZ movie. That would have been worth watching, not the return of fucking Broly.
Fuck outta here. lol
Whoa wait what? Fantasy Z-story? Damn that sounds kinda interesting.
On the game: I kinda passed on Sparking Neo, but this looks fucking badshit.
But at what price? Future Gohan was a given because he’s truly a different personality from the other Gohan’s. But 17 and 18, whether it be in the other time line or the “standard”, they’re pretty much the same guy and girl. It would have been a redundant addition to a roster which is already some what redundant at times.
Indeed. This probably WILL stand to be the standard for DB games in a while. Again, though, I have to question why there is no arcade release…
And as far as “Fantasy/What if’s” are concerned…they are not all that new in DBZ Fighting games; even Budokai 1 had a few interesting diverging paths.
But BT2 took it up a notch when they decided to have a few alternates, in addition to movie plots and etc. Big Bro Raditz was probably the most outstanding ones…the only others I can think of mostly just focus on “What if insert bad guy won this fight”, which then predominantly just end with “And they took over/blew up the universe…THE END! ”
For BT3 to really be in rare form, I would hope that they’re pretty expansive with it. I mean, as much as I sometimes hate the fanbase, I can’t hate DB, especially when it gets actually decent games. But I AM getting a bit tired with the same basic storylines over and over again in the games, which is why I’m hoping that there will be more What if’s to be had, and that they’re at least some what in-depth and well-written.
For instance, one interesting idea I that I had in mind basically boiled down to “what if Kuririn/Krillen died instead of Piccolo at the battle with the Saiyajins?” It may not sound like that big of a deal at the surface, but I would imagine that Piccolo actually being alive would have possibly changed the Planet Namek/Freiza saga for the better, thanks to the notion that Piccolo would have made it so that Gohan wouldn’t have run from too many fights (well…besides maybe Vegeta and of course, Freiza, at least), Piccolo may have gotten more character development through continued exposure to Gohan and his “countrymen”, as well as possibly toughing Gohan up more under Piccolo’s extended tutelage.
The only bad thing I could have foreseen would be that Kuririn would have been a bit character like Yamcha and Tenshinhan even faster if the story had flowed this way…but ah well…I never did like how the series basically made Piccolo of little consequence once SSJs started popping up left and right…
Actually Piccolo still played a huge role in the series.
Just as a mentor and a strategist not as a warrior.
man the beam effects and stuff is so pretty in this game…For the next game i want EVERYTHING destructible…i’m talking like red faction type of destructible. I want to shoot a kamehameha anywhere and it will make some type of crater or deform the environment and MAAAAYBE when people power up relatively close to the ground they make that power up crater as well?
Edit: SSJ2 Gohan and perfect Cell:

Budokai 3 is still the best DBZ fighter for PS2. I like Shin Budokai 2 (Another Road) even more. Hopefully they’ll port it to PS2 like they’ve done for other PSP games.
Ehhh. I dunno about that. The combat system in BT2 is good. All combos can be escaped so there are no garuanteed infinites or other crap unlike B3.
Although I loved B3.
Plus they rae adding the teleport system to BT3. So this will add to combat depth. B3 may no longer have the title of best DBZ fighter. And even if it is still the best DBZ fighter I think BT3 will be a VERY close second since BT2 is already up there with B3. And the BT series is definitely the better DBZ experience overall.
BT2 takes a completely different approach to fighting than B3. Instead of making a few gameplay mechanics and putting emphasis on a large combo list making the specific moves of characters unique, Spike puts in a crapload of mechanics that just about all characters can use, but modifies those mechanics for each character so they’re not exactly the same. Obviously this makes characters way more similar than your common fighter. But on the flipside, the end result is a game that you can learn really quickly, but because all the mechanics are perfectly viable, you’re left with a game that has really good balance and pretty deep and intuitive mind games. The subtle differences in the mechanics for each character gives them their own unique little qwirks that you can make use of.
I think BT2 did a really good job with that. And it was only Spike’s second try. I have high hopes for BT3, which I’ll be getting within the next few days. I’ll upload vids, but don’t have any expectations for match vids.
Isn’t this just DBZ Sparking Meteor in Japan? I’m assuming somebody has already tried it. How is it?
I don’t think it’s out yet. Tomorrow maybe? I could be wrong.
I want to pick this up, but A.C.E. 3 is first on my priority list.
It’s out. At least in the Asiatic regions (HK and such), because copies of the game have already started being shipped out.
Id actually would like to see 22nd tenkaichi budokai Tien…a total beast.
