are you saying AR is better than battle of Z? BoZ isnt out yet
Saitsu: affinity: Running_Wild:Have you even played DBZ Legends? I have the disc for PSX, while it’s a nice little DragonBall Z game that mimics the action of the series, the gameplay is actually pretty dumb. It’s just a really flashy tug-o-war beat’em up game where the only way to damage the enemies is to hit them with repetitive special attacks you perform for winning each round of tug-o-war. Sitting through Goku’s Spirit Bomb several times each fight sucks.
You can literally win the tug-o-war just mashing the power blow and countering your opponents every attempt to counter your blow, which they will then try to counter but you can counter their counter, until they run out of KI and become stunned. Like majority of DBZ games, lots of moments where you need to charge your KI, or be stunned.
I dunno how you can say Legends revolutionized team fighting, considering your team mates are AI controlled and generally spend most of the time jobbing.
I’ll reserve judgement on Battle Of Z until it releases, but I’m not expecting much from it. Looks alot like Tenkaichi with teams thrown in.
I owned DBZ Legends import on PS1 using a device method that plays sports (think it was called Gold Finger or something).
Tobal 2 was the other import I had on PS1.The best fighting games don’t have to be the deepest. Fun > depth (as proven by the SSB series, which is tiers below Street Fighter series depth. simple, yet enough room for skill and fun. )
And even in a simpler mechanics design, depth can still exist in a battle system like this. And it definitely takes more skill to defeat a team than it is to defeat a single opponent. 4 vs 4 is going to be a blast online. Plus with this gameplay design, a Battle of Z series could have an easier time implementing more playable favorites. Considering Battle of Z is the first of its kind these days with new engine, it already is building up a more
impressive roster than most DBZ fighting series that start out. I’d say a sequel could possibly rival or surpass Tenkaichi 3’s roster. And the online players 4 vs 4 team aspect is going to deliver a flavor of entertainment and party play that 1vs1/tag team fighting games can’t match.
Anarchy Reigns does Team Battles and such on a much better level. And with much greater variety.
So it’s niche is that it’s a Team Fighter in DBZ? Well that’s not much better than the last niches it had where other games outranked it.

It’s not my usual way of doing things.
But considering how DBZ games usually go…yeah there’s very little doubt that AR is better than BoZ.

but AR is loose and this game is locked, AR isn’t anywhere near a traditional fighting game
im looking forward to it, not gonna rush out and buy it without investigation first though but I doubt it will have a problem being better than AR if you’re looking to have a unique fighting game. AR is an action game lol
I love DBZ in general, and even DBGT. But this ain’t gonna be a ‘revolutionary’ fighting game, it’s just gonna be dumb fun like every other DB game.

its not going to be revolutionary, but if its better than tenkaichi 3 then it will be a revolutionary DBZ game. not looking to go to evo for it but just like what they supposedly did with gundam it could be really good

Except it doesn’t look anywhere near as good as Tenkaichi 3 either which is my issue.
Battle of Z looks fun as hell, but in terms of Competitiveness Budokai 3 or Super DBZ is about all there is.
Taking a DBZ Fighting game seriously

Questions like this interest me.
Is it better for those without the time to practice to be serious yet consistently mediocre at virtua fighter or to be serious and at a high level at dead or alive or tenkaichi 3
I think maybe this should go in that MIT thread
TO me High expectations of a DBZ game is like expecting a DOA game not to have Tits

Another Road to me is the best Budokai game, unfortunately it’s PSP only and has quite the limited roster. Still quite impressive for a PSP game though, and the most complex and most interesting the Budokai engine has ever been.
Apparently no versus mode offline on the xbox console, I hope it is different for PSN. And I hope you can play local coop online just like in SFXTekken.
This is AMAZING!!! Definitely the ultimate DBZ game ever created. A sequel could definitely double the roster and add everyone else, including the GT characters and GT characters that have yet to be playable. This is true authentic DBZ combat, even Budokai and Tenkaichi games don’t come close. It’s fun and accessible, and shows a fighting game can be very deep and unique without needing dial a combos and Street Fighter-like mechanics. Plus the team elements are out of this world!! The 4 players online campaign co-op and collectible card loot system really adds replay value that rivals Left 4 Dead and lots of other games. The 8 players versus is phenomenol too. Battle of Z really raises the standard to how a DBZ fighting game should play. Now give it a sequel and we can really get a super epic roster. (though for their first game with this engine, the roster is VERY impressive and each one has their unique side) . Battle of Z really is a franchise they should expand further.
Trolling doesn’t work when it’s so damn obvious.
Z for effort
