this keeps getting more and more amazing!!!

Now with the Street Fighter V hype, there seems to be less respect/attention towards DBZ fighting games in general.
I think Street Fighter’s influence and culture in how fighting games are designed is oversaturating the market too much, to the
point where people don’t acknowledge nor respect anything that plays totally different (SSB being an exception).
It’s a shame DBZ in fighting communities seems to be treated like an outcast or meme joke, just like Dynasty Warriors games,
no matter what it changes or improves. but it’s not like there are DBZ games exactly like Xenoverse released every year.
even Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is obsolete compared to Xenoverse’s network test build. Experienced more fun, epic battles, and possibilities
in the single day Xenoverse test than the total time playing all the best DBZ fighting games. and that was a beta test. )

but the fighting community as a whole should give Dragon Ball Xenoverse a chance and evaluate it with open minded
perspective of fighting games and gaming in general (just like eventually SRK community and others embrace SSB
as a competitive fighting game now.

Xenoverse has enough depth and authenticity to provide the best of both worlds
(DBZ style open 3D battlefield combat, and wide enough selection of offense and defense options to
give matches enough depth, variety and builds that conventional fighting games can’t match).

And one cool things about this kind of fighting game, it doesn’t force players to fight their controller,
and the learning curve is fair enough for there to be a smaller gap between intermediate and pro players,
instead of those controller-masochist fighting games that overcomplicate their commands,
are too strict with their combo and escape inputs,
and making players that would otherwise be great opponents… handicapped in fights because of the command/input window hurdles.

fighting games should be more of the battle of the minds instead of who’s better doing commands;
who’s better timing their combo/escape inputs.
That’s all just a minigame and unnecessary extra hurdle to be able to fight optimally.

Fighting games should not be a controller contest, it should be about the fight itself.

  • if a fighting game controls are too demanding to access all the offense and defense options,
then it’s inferior and too player controller skill selective compared to games like Xenoverse,
which has more accessible controls, greater freedom, flexible system that allows a wide range of ways to fight
(as well as build one’s own fighting style) **and fair inputs that empowers all players to be able to fight at their best. **

So as a whole Xenoverse is gonna have a lot more incredible competition since its overall design and gameplay makes it so
just about anyone can be formidable, while still having to earn their victories through skill, reflexes and strategies (and teamwork for the
team battles).

Plus the HUB structure is going to make the community much closer and immersed in the world.
This is really shaping up to be the most revolutionary and forward thinking DBZ fighting game (and fighting game in general) ever.
They know how to innovate things without going off track and without catering to just one type of player (the elitist pros that
are wizards with complex commands and inputs.)

Maybe with Dragon Ball Xenoverse, all fighting game communities will start to take DBZ fighting games seriously
(or at least DBXV fighting games.) but even if Xenoverse doesn’t get popular enough to get to EVO events and the like,
it’s online competition (and private local tournaments) will be among the greatest and most played fighting games of all time.

An important thing for fighting fans to consider, is to not expect Xenoverse to be a Street Fighter, a Tekken, a Budokai, or a Tenkaichi.
Xenoverse is in a league and flavor of its own. If people expect MUGEN DBZ or some 2D DBZ then go play those things, this is not for you.

**Dragon Ball Xenoverse is for those that want a Dragon Ball Xenoverse style fighting game, and willing to adapt to that style of fighting culture. **

I would very heavily separate games like Street Fighter and DBZ, the depth of which you can take them respectively is vastly different and thus makes one game much more technical, catering to a more hardcore fanbase. DBZ games offer light execution barriers with fun in mind, it’s hard to compare them.

That livestream showed some cool stuff though definitely! I’m a little disappointed that the devs kept on saying “Sorry we can’t answer that” to everything asked by the chat. It’s super annoying.

At least Super Saiyan 2 for custom characters seems to be confirmed now, the Super Vegeta 1/2 seemed to be a bug and everybody was making a deal out of it, with it possibly being unaltered text of some sort of USSJ form?

Well while I personally think that is true for the Tenkaichi brand and most others the Dimps games (well Budokai 3, Shin Budokai 1 & 2, Infinite World and Burst Limit) however have things like guard cancels, revert backdash and fast cancels ect which give the games a surprising amount of depth and execution difficulty and the ki management and basic defensive options also do.

If you wouldn’t consider the DBZ games hardcore fighters, Infinite World had tons of potential. Difficult execution with perfect frame guard cancels, and as AlterSaber mentioned, things like RBD and FC’s. Game had tons of fighting game concepts applied properly, pressure, movement, defense, while each budokai entry had serious flaws, but the time we got to Infinite World things were pretty crisp.

I am really excited that Dimps is working on Xenoverse and I can’t wait to get hands on time with it.

I think some of the DBZ titles have depth, but it has never been enough to warrant a hardcore tournament styled fanbase, it’ll just never happen with older titles. If it happened for Xenoverse I would be both shocked and happily surprised.

DIMPS make miracles happen, every game they develop or co-develop turns into one of my favourites. Xenoverse unlike Battle of Z and the disgusting mess named Ultimate Tenkaichi will at this point live up to the expectations I have set for it.

As long as I get my god damn SSJ Bardock…

I think it does warrant tournament styled fanbase they just didn’t get one due to the fact that many people who were playing the games when they game out were around the ages 10-14 and don’t think its a tournament style game since they never played it that way and never learned the tech or have since moved on to other things since they got older, it also doesn’t help that its playstyle isn’t traditional and personally I think what happened to the Budokai games is the opposite of what happened to Smash were the community just didn’t take advantage of what was given at the time and were not dedicated to the idea of a competitive game because it was a new concept to most of them. Though that’s my opinion.

I still personally think an okay sized community can be made around the older games (At least Infinite World) which is what I am personally trying to do at least in my local scene.

Comparing Smash and Budokai is actually not a terrible comparison. Both have in-game bugs/mechanics that allow for advanced strategy and combo potential. It’s just that Smash had a very large gathering and pushed itself into one of the most popular FGC titles all because of the playerbase. And yeah, the DBZ fanbase was probably much younger at the time, and the amount of “hardcore” players for the titles is tiny. Never played Infinite World myself, I thought it was a PSVita/PSP game or something? Hard to make a handheld game a big thing in local scenes, mainly because everyone needs the system.

I’m kinda in the mindset that if Smash could create a community Budokai could as well. It’s great probably the best of the series in term of mechanics.
Nah you are thinking of Shin Budokai, Infinite World was on the Playstation 2.

Original Anime episode included!!!

KIAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! That’s equivalent to a brand new movie/DBZ episode that takes place beyond the Buu saga (well beyond any multiverse saga)!!!

It’s gotta be a prologue

Hopefully that’s the foot in the door for Android CaCs.

Is this one of those ‘‘let’s have as many characters as possible and have them all play the same’’ type of games?

Judging from previous games, possibly. But Budokai 3 (A DIMPS created DBZ fighter) had different fighting styles for each character and they had their own movesets. The Spike games(Tenkaichi) are the “Make 3 character animation sets and then apply them to 120 different character models” games. It’s a possibility that it could happen, but judging from previous DIMPS installments I don’t believe they’ll be doing that.

The core of the roster are the created characters, so there is going to be tons of original builds and unique styles beyond what the classic characters are capable of.

Also, don’t think there will be official Android CaCs, but if you choose Earthling, you could technically play as an android using the
customization, assign Android related skills, and don’t wear a scouter (you can still read power levels and information without a scouter equipped,
which is something an android can do, so you can in fact RP an android in this, at least androids that look human like 13, 17 and 18. )
Also the Earthling race is said to passively regenerate Ki on their own, which is relatable to an android trait.

**Overall Earthling race is looking to be a multi purpose race (for humans, half sayians and android builds). **
meaning Earthling race represents more than one race.

here is a motherload of new updates!!! ^.^

interview

I’ve seen the gameplay in a proper 60fps-looking format and it looks really nice. The game still needs polishing in my opinion and I hope they delay it a month or two to make that happen, but idk the publisher gets what the publisher wants I suppose. I hope DIMPS have all the time they need, they’re capable of making a standout game.

It will be very awesome!! Even the network test version was very playable and fun, and now the current build is better than that.

Also more sections have opened, and more highlights on the playable races.

Good to see the create-a-character system is robust enough to allow for more races beyond humans/saiyans.

Announcement of a delay, but just a couple of days.

just a couple of…DAYS!!! @.@

Hey, I called the delay happening I feel kinda proud.

Seriously though they need to push it back even further, development seems sketchy.

The development is fine, in my opinion. And they can patch whatever needs smoothing. The network test itself was fully playable and it’s already polished enough by now (of course it’s never polished enough for some people, but I expect the rants to be in the minority.) The delay does help, I heard it’s mostly to help prepare the servers internationally, though I read Japan is still coming Feb 5. EU is around Feb 27 and NA is around Feb 24.

more goodies!!
