Dragon Ball XENOVERSE revolutionizes Dragon Ball fighting games + there is DBO Character Creation

You do pick up items like you’re imagining but that’s just the low level items like capsules. It’s like Monster Hunter but worse. There are secret conditions you must meet during the mission that triggers a boss fight that increases the chances of you getting good stuff.

Extended game life in exchange for higher levels of tedium, true JRPG style getrektcasuals. If that’s the case I can see either 40% of the audience not even caring and another percentage grinding for every damn thing in the game. In my case I’m gonna be gunning for everything.

Also, is anybody pissed that the pre-order Saiyan Armour looks really crappy? Gold/silver looks majorly tacky to me.

I got the pre-order armor. I agree it looks pretty lame. I was hoping you could change the color on it but nope. This grinding talk is rather depressing.

I’d rather have a grind than the game just spoon feeding me everything I want, it doesn’t make it feel anywhere near as rewarding.

Take for instance Ultimate Tenkaichi’s character creation that just handed you everything, even though the game was flat out terrible the campaign for your CaC was equally bad.

The Day One Edition armor does look pretty obnoxious. Made it work by wearing the silver chest/legs with the gold gloves/boots, though. Actually, the gloves and boots are good when paired with other clothing sets.

I don’t mind grinding but the way you’re using the term isn’t the same. I know there are games where people consider doing a quest with random rewards until you get a certain item “grinding” but I’ve never understood why they call it that. When I think of grinding, I think of something like grinding in Pokemon before a gym. EVERY battle contributes to making your Pokemon stronger even if you only get 2XP.

In this game, there’s a chance (AFAIK) that you could play through the same quest 100 times and still not get the items you want. Let’s say you do get it the 100th time. Yeah, maybe you are okay with that, but me I would be scratching my head like Cody when I go into a forum and notice I played that mission 100 times just for one item and xXSpiritRasenganXx or some shit got it the first couple of times. I don’t see that as grinding because each playthrough doesn’t really progress you toward getting the item. Actually, you’d probably be better off making your own limit. SSJ, for example, costs 40K Zenie after unlocked through story mode. I can see someone “grinding” PQ14 till they get the SSJ skill or until they get the 40K required for it. IDK, just my 2 cents on grinding for random item drops.

As for the DLC Saiyan armors, I’m honestly just disappointed that even the tails are gold/crystal. As if they just made the whole design one color and overlooked the tails.

Combowise:

[]I keep hearing about step canceling but haven’t seen it nor read an actual description on when you can/should do it.
[
] Trunks seems to have a bunch of combos that kick the opponent up which I assume would be to to connect his Heat Dome attack…unfortunately, I have been able to connect it off of any of them and as far as I can tell, any combo where he knocks the opponent has the hit stun stop at the ceiling. This means doing them at max height (which I never noticed was so low to the ground until now) is useless as the opponent just gets up a few seconds afterwards. Can’t even combo off it regularly IIRC. I tried dashing but you can’t dash straight up. Can’t remember if you can jump and attack the opponent.
[*] Local vs really fucks up combos as when you do a dash Heavy followup, you have to dash in the opponent’s direction. Or rather, it’s possible to still do your combos but you have to remember that it’s dashing is related to the camera. Left Trigger/L2 + Stick down is not always a backdash like in 1P, Stick Up is not always a forward dash/toward the opponent, etc.

Just finished the main story… Pretty good and a nice change of pace. They cut quite a few corners in the different sagas, but most of them were explained well. The Buu saga, however, was just fucked.

Need to get on unlocking the rest of the moves and characters now.

Gold and silver armor is tacky but the gold one was very useful when I was at starting level.

Game release a day early on PC. Downloading. Now the waiting begins…

This seems like SSJLuffy’s page so I’m not sure if he posted it or not but with people asking about the combo system and stuff I figured it would be good to post this anyway

Never saw it till now. Definitely gotta check to see what step canceling and jump canceling adds to the female Saiyans’ combo options. I heard there was JCing but never understood how to do it since it’s the same button for Vanishing. Also, thank goodness, someone finally explained how to Step Vanish. You would swear this game was gonna be at EVO the way people are talking about how good it is but won’t mention how to do it or they explain it horribly.

You perform a Step and then during the animation of the Step, you press X (on PS) WITH a directional input on the left stick. So many people are saying just press X during a step or calling it an invisible jump (in a way, it is) but you have to press towards the opponent or left/right when doing it. A regular jump (just X) will not cause a Vanish. Took me like twenty minutes to figure this out bc I kept flicking the stick for a step and letting go which means it went back to neutral before the X and I never got the Vanish. Although your character vanishes, you can still tell that he or she is following a jump arc. I’ve gotten really far vanishes at times and really short ones at other times. Not sure if that means it’s like Plink Dashing where you have to do it at the right time depending on the character for farther movement or if there’s a Just Frame that gives you a farther vanish.

Speaking of Vanishes, it seems Goku’s Instant Transmission also doesn’t use Ki for some reason. Unfortunately, while using Goku and trying to use it for combos, I noticed it’s way to slow and has huge recovery. I was wishing/hoping they did it like BT3 where if you did a combo on your opponent, you could use IT and the opponent would bounce into you causing just enough hitstun to allow you to combo off it. Not only that, but it always put you behind the opponent so you had to make sure when you knocked the opponent away before you used IT, that the opponent was facing toward you or you would teleport but they wouldn’t bump into you and couldn’t get a combo. Oh well.

Will practice more tmw

This game is in serious need of some patches. If not to fix the frame rate issues on PS3 and the server errors, then to correct all the spelling and translation fuck ups, among other things. For example, the description for Gohan’s battle armor refers to him as “young Goku,” your female character is sometimes referred to as “he/him” in main story cutscenes, Trunks talks as if he’s in the fight when he’s not and says things that don’t make sense, Beerus’ name is spelled wrong in one of the story scenes, the descriptions for Meteor Crash and Change the Future are incorrect… I can go on all day.

And why is there a Transformation called “Super Vegeta (2)” that can be used by custom Saiyans?

Okay so I’m phone browsing so forgive my lack of quoting and replying to everyone.

Game dropped on PC today, I got an hour in before I called it a night. I play a Human male and I’m wondering myself just like @Kaiten92 what basic attacks are step cancellable and jump cancellable. I’m gonna hit up offline 1v1 and test out some things tonight for the Human side of things. My hopeful theory is that it’s akin to Budokai 3 and charged heavy attacks have a step cancel/jump cancel property. All I actually had time to do yesterday was the first 5 PQs and then got them all Z rank.

This game in a nutshell

Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 2 boost attack and strike supers and Super Vegeta and Super Vegeta 2 boost Ki and Ki Supers IIRC

That’s what I was thinking but every gif I’ve seen of step canceling seem to be step canceling Light attacks tho I may be wrong. But then it makes me wonder if the game has HSD to prevent just doing the same combo into step cancel, repeat. Not like it would be broken as you have Evasive moves so infinites are only viable for a short period.

Still, the name doesn’t make sense. Why not just call it “Ascended Super Saiyan” instead of "Super Vegeta"?

Getting these Time Shards is gonna be a bitch… Can’t figure out how to get Vegeta to revive in the quest with Hercule, or how to get Goku to go SSJ in the quest with Freiza.

The servers kicking me out of my single lobby isn’t making sense to me at all, I can’t play without being connected to their servers in some form?

While on Steam, at the top left, select Steam > Go Offline. It’ll ask you to restart Steam. After that you’ll be able to play single player. A temp fix until servers are more stable.

I can now entirely agree with the grinding points Kaiten made earlier. I’ve played through the PQs I’m missing items for a LOT of fucking times and still haven’t received the drops I want. Namely Giant Bomber and Super Saiyan, two long ass mission that take forever. My grind is getting salty, back to work I suppose.

So… some people say that the game is pretty much moddable just like SF4, is that true?
Do you guys think in Models Edition as something possible? <3

You gotta get S and Z ranks by meeting the special conditions.
