I have much more faith in ASW making a decent roster than Capcom so I ain’t gonna worry too much. They know there are alot of people excited for this so i highly doubt they are going to fuck it up.
Why the fuck is that not in the Eventhubs article? Fucking hell! That pretty much means that Launch, Mr. Popo, and Master Roshi will not be in the game either. Hype Gone. Maybe I will pick it up once its in the bargain bin if their balancing and roster aren’t total shit.
Yeah, because the colorful characterization and character development of Dragon Ball are irrelevant. Everyone is dick-riding the shoddy plot of Z and Super.
Seriously, the only palatable (not gay or stupid) colorful characters in those series are Hercule and Beerus.
oh no @neveryoumind doesn’t wanna play the game guys what are we going to do do you think I should cancel my preorder I mean I guess I could maybe pick it up once the game is like $2 I thought it looked good but now I just don’t know I mean the game only has characters that are gay or stupid now that tao is out
Popo and Roshi seems okay. Roshi will defend the universe in DBS.
Character diversity for me in this game is not about sexes and color but rather into races, reality and saga. I just don’t understand the obsession of people into forcing diversity of sexes and color in this game rather than races and reality which is more fitting. We will get 18, Kale and Caulifa that is fine to me. Even if they add GT’s Pan seems okay but please not the least likes of Spopovich. This game will be more about Saiyans, Invaders and Villains that seems fine because that is the wholeness of the manga reality to compromised to an idea of political correctness by diversity doesn’t exist on their fictional reality and that is a fact unless they go reboot and retcons. DBZ is about strength and staying power it’s not about humans because it had genderless races.
That is highly inaccurate. In Z and Super ~80% of newly introduced[right] characters are 50 shades-of-smug with a large portion ending up as nothing but cannon fodder. Nearly all of the rest fit into the above two categories. I do not have a team of 3 worth using yet, and it is unlikely that I will given this news.
In the interview the director admitted that 5 of the 6 characters showcased had a lot of similarities, with Buu being unique. The director also stated that there would only be unique characters (gameplay-wise) from now on. With Trunks there is likely to be 1 sword-use heavy character. Gameplay-wise I do not believe they will be able to differentiate anyone of the Z fighters much but Piccolo. They will likely add a brute hulk like Broli. Beyond that they just have a bunch of unpalatable henchmen to work with given their self imposed limitations.
If as she says they intend to balance the game based on cannon, the balancing is doomed. Without a team of 3 worth using and decent balancing there is no reason for me to pick this game up.
P.S. To me bargain bin for fighting games means Steam Seasonal sale or EVO PSN sale.
^^This guy has the posting format of the future, and the ideas of a totally smart person^^
I like how we got over the cannon strength vs balance debate like a hundred years ago and new people keep jumping into the thread to talk about how this game is unbalanced intentionally and doomed to failure.
Why should the game and manga adjust to fit launch? there are more decent gender less monsters that had potential to fit the game mechanics smoothly. If we push Videl, Chi Chi Launch, Viking, Mai or the rest without the ability of flight and speed just to fit an idea of diversity this game would lose its touch because of scattered, loosely and unconsistency of the game mechanics. This won’t be a sausage fest game but rather be a Saiyan or Z-Warrior fest game because that is the reality of their fictional works, that people should accept not political diversity thing. If Lois lane is the damsel in distress in a specific timeline she should stay to be a damsel in distress in game about beating each other even she is a lot smarter and witty she is than Selina Kyle.
It does not have to be Launch. There is just a lack of any Dragon Ball representation, which makes her statement of appealing to all generations of fans complete hypocrisy. However, if you were to consider Launch, she would likely be based off of Darkstalker’s Bulleta, which would make her pretty unique.
Let us look at ASW’s last handling of the franchise (Extreme Butoden) and then the demo footage and then all panic and assume everyone who isn’t Saiyan is going to be a shitty good-for-nothing-but-assists because of one line in an interview.
Nobody in that demo had business laying hands on Golden Frieza, base Frieza was nothing compared to Cell who was nothing compared to Buu and I’m meant to worry that they’re balancing the game based on sadasses who ain’t going to buy the game anyway because it doesn’t have 20 odd filler and film villains nobody even fucking remembers whines about power levels?
Nah, shit ain’t happening, Krillin ect. will be just as able to kick ass as any of the Saiyans, maybe Yamcha would show up as a useless joke character but that’s as far as I see it going.
The game mechanics, visuals and animation is what made this game a potential not characters and IP because there are a lot of variety DB Fighting Games already and what makes this stand out is undeniably the game mechanics because the visual and animation can be later translated to other DB games like RPG, 3d Fighter and etc.
So the game should at least be consistent to prioritize the game mechanics first then let the other unconventional gameplay be just along 10% to 20% of the cast but it should be reserve to interesting characters like genderless monster and deities from move translation not by sexual appeal, bad ass moments or political correctness. We can always pull and find a lot of similarities and comparison from other FG Characters in how a character should work but the thing is the game mechanics should be the top most priority. To much variation and loosely of game mechanics would end this up like Capcom Fighting Jam that people labels as Capcom’s Mugen.
I mean, aside of mostly elemental supers and other signature super skills, they made Persona 4 movesets out of their asses. Granted each character had their specific weapon, but they worked with just that to make clearly distinguishable playstyles. I’m sure they can do something about the 1000 different saiyans this game will have.
The thing is most of the characters need to compromised with the game mechanics first before anything else because that area made this game shine, edgy and a threat to the dominance of the MVC franchise. Always keep that in mind without that this would be just a fancy game with a lot of fan service and political correctness.
There is in fact numerous amount of other DB games and fighters that had fanservice in the past this one should be sparred at least to standout. It’s not the IP and graphics that makes this DB fighter promising than MVC. if people would insist it to be that case then any DB fighter should have bested the previous Capcom’s Marvel titles in the past decade but it does not because it ain’t about graphics and IP.
If this game is not prioritize as gameplay mechanic first this would just end up like any known promising anime fighter in obscurity you could think about with better graphics than the previous Capcom’s Marvel titles along with a lot of DB fighters that visually better than Capcom’s Marvel you could imagine that played a different genre of a fighter.
Did you actually think there was going to be a majority of old school DB characters? Come the fuck on. The reason a lot of them didn’t make the transfer over to Z in the first place wasn’t power level, but because they weren’t THAT notable. It says some shit that Launch never made Z simply because they forgot she even existed.
We can talk about the terrible treatment of the non-Saiyans in Z all the live long day, and I’d be hardpressed not to agree with you, but the OG DB characters were not as great as people like to say. Most of the actual great ones actually made the transition to the later series.
