After watching all these videos I think i might want to swap out Yamcha out of my A.21 / X / Vegeta team with Bardock.
I’m curious about how his assist properties and viability as a combo extender/pressure tool; Does it have knock up (Tien Dodonpa) or knockback (Trunks assist)? Wall bounce (Goku/Black beam)? How much hit/block stun does it have? So far to me it looks like a worse Trunks assist due to not having the huge blast at the end.
Considering that you do 80 percent damage or more with hit into level 1 sparking it’s not really the end of the world either way whether they fix or not. Marvel players had to deal with way worse than that for years and with new era DLC patching, a fix should be round the corner.
Apparently it was said in a video that it takes a while from when you press Bardock’s assist to when it actually comes out. Meaning it probably strikes the screen very fast once active, but wont actually be able to consistently win in speed vs other assists reactively. Either way it’s not a projectile so he’s just going to run his face into Vegeta blasts. Unless what was said in the video was wrong or was changed before launch.
Broly actually not moving exactly the same as 99.9 percent of the other characters in the game is a good change of pace. Wish the stuff they did with him was more widespread across the cast with different angles and things to maneuver. The whole air dash/super dash/vanish being the same for the entire cast just makes each character feel way too much like each other as is and the homogenized one per character assists doesn’t help.
So apparently, Broly can combo after his LVL 3. Something about it, it can start tiny and slow, then accelerate. When he does, he recovers before the explosion. Unsure if feasible though
Oh, yeah in general I’m not really dreading over it. Players can manage through it and will (have to regardless) suck it up. Spectators though would be a different story, but yeah, it likely won’t last (if not in the DLC patch, in a follow-up patch right after).
The video you’re talking about it probably from PNDKetchup&Mustard. He stated that it has “really fast startup” and “but get used to using it a little bit later than most characters because of its insane startup.” My interpretation of the 2nd message is primarily on combos… implying the “insane” tag in reference to how absurdly fast it is and how it could affect the timing of assist combos.
After a full day of watching these two chucklenuts, here’s my entirely unfounded and non commital guesstimate of how their metas will develop.
Bardock’s great at approaching and has good to passable buttons. He’s not the kind of guy with built in mixups, but he does have very easy access to Hard Knockdowns with his Spinning Mixer. He’ll get most of his hits in the footsie/counter poke game instead. Meaning Vegeta’s going to bust his nuts pretty hard. That said I forsee him operating in the same role as point Goku Blacks, playing the neutral and looking for a first hit, being an appetizer for later more dangerous characters and building meter.
Broly is not a grappler. His grabs do not leave him in particularly advantageous positions like 16s do and they come out much slower. Instead he’s doing the aggressive mobile big body thing Juggernaut and Doomsday would do. In a game dominated in the way it was, I think a dude who gives 0 fucks would be healthy. And a Barriered Broly using Armor moves with assists behind him will be tough to deal with if played well. I’m not worried about his combo-ability since this is a 3v3 game and if you want to combo you will find a way. He’s gonna try to bully his opponents down. And he’s gonna fail.
Yeah, I’m really liking/interested with how Bardock is shaping up. He seems to cover the issues that I wasn’t a fan of with Goku Black (no fast “low” hitting attack primarily and no DP). Even the round start meta of calling him for assist (or if he’s on point) has uses… if the opponent blocks and calls vegeta, you can likely IAD jM to catch a mid-air Vegeta assist in time, and gain the momentum needed.
I mean the only note that I haven’t heard about is if Bardock even has a DP or not. If he does, I’d be pretty content with switching A16 out and using Bardock/Cell/Vegeta.
I’m ok with Broly not having having armor on frame 1 on most of his stuff. I do feel though that if he spends a bar on Lariat Express thought that that should be the only thing that he should have frame one armor on.
