Beerus’ super loop relies on a bug too. Hope they don’t fix too much
Patch incoming+Broly teased ‘soon’=Broly playable sometime this week…by PC players who hacked the game to allow them access
You’re going to see a lot of Super Dash regardless, but there’s game play in baiting SD so I’m not sure that’s a terrible thing. Not like there aren’t other viable approach vectors besides.
I do think Vanish could stand to not be (mostly) plus on block though. Neutral Vanish really should be a commitment.
Even with SFV there’s nuance to how the characters move in walk speed, the type of buttons they have and the v triggers do varying things and have varying timers/uses (Bison has teleport dash, Abigail has really shallow jump, Fang has really floaty jump so on). Like even though a lot of the v skills aren’t anything amazing, Dhalsim’s V Skill literally allows him to play in a part of the screen that no one is capable of fighting from in SFV or any SF. There’s nothing like that for any of the characters in DBFZ. There’s some nuances here and there but nothing as far as movement or attack vectors that is unique like that.
Nappa, A.Gohan, Kid Buu and Cell are all going to run forward at each other the same way with similar things and always have something that homes in on everything. The most you’re going to get out of this game is just different ways to apply offense. Different ways to traverse the screen or place projectiles on screen wont really be a thing other than a huge overhaul of the way the game works. Otherwise it’s a game where you can make a 3 character team and you’re going to approach about the same as the other 3 character team.
Even stuff that normally differentiates characters in SF or anime games just isn’t present here. That doesn’t make it objectively a bad game, just very predictable and boils the tiers down to who does the best things in the same movement lines and attack vectors.
Nappa has a dive/feint option, A.Gohan has a homing teleport, Kid Buu breaks the laws of physics with his normals, etc, etc. Now maybe those options aren’t as good as Super Dash, but the fact that your opponent has to keep scouting for SD increases your chances of getting away with those 2nd tier options.
I’m just looking at SD vs 2H as another layer on top of the game, guess other people are seeing it as the bulk of the game itself.
Dive feint isn’t bad, but that’s nothing that’s going to overtake the importance of vanishing or super dashing. A homing teleport is exactly what will add diversity in a game where everyone already has homing movement options. Kid Buu’s normals do have some actual ranged uses, but it’s all mainly to just convert into more close game where you do the same steamroll close game stuff. There’s things, but nothing to wow over or keep the characters from not moving in the same places and approaching the same way majority of the time.
I could be wrong, but I don’t THINK A.Gohan’s teleport has the frame advantage Vanish does. Plus it positions him at an entirely different angle.
So yeah, not like a metric fuckton of visual diversity but still different enough to matter often enough.
Still, I probably should have mentioned A.Gohan’s down dash instead as a unique mobility option.
Anyway, mostly playing devil’s advocate on it, but I do think Vanish is more of a problem.
Goku blacks teleport, air slicer, full screen divekick. Beerus’ j2h, 2m. Piccolos parry teleport. Gotenks ex punches and spins. Gohan and Vegetas flying kicks. Just to name a few, I think characters have a lot of unique approach options, unless that’s not what we are talking about
I wish Broly would come out. I don’t give a shit about the character in or out of the game, but the more I hear his theme the more I like it
Yeah, the conversation is whether Super Dash overshadows all the other movement options or not.
I think super dash can be pretty risky. I’ve been learning 2h sparking combos for the main reason to kill off characters from super dashes. Can easily break 6k if needed.
Also people need to take a look at their characters j.L hitboxes and see if you can reliably punish predictable super dashes from the air
Super dash is a presence that needs to be accounted for at all times with all characters. It’s easily the defining movement option of the game. It can get blown up by a lot of things, but it’s still a very powerful option. Having more options just makes it better.
I don’t agree with the cast feeling more homogeneous than SFV though. This might also be me just enjoying DBFZ a lot more than I ever did SFV, but I feel my Frieza-team and my A18-team has bigger differences in gameplan and options than almost any two SFV-characters I can remember putting my hands on.
I wonder what it is that makes people exclusively talk about how the game should be changed to make it feel more like another game that already exists.
I mean fuck the game not having a dp motion, shitty online experience both netcode and functionality wise and weird balancing around canon tierlists and shit.
Otherwise I got way too much fun playing and learning the game.
