Trying to push myself to get a releasable version out soon
This is very impressive, indeed. I’m familiar with Unity and recognize the amount of manhours you must’ve put in. Again, great work.
Just to chime in on the animations: everything looks on point except the jumpkicks. They kinda lack that visceral feel, just looks like he’s about to extend his leg but doesn’t do it in time. Maybe extend a leg a bit further or something? I wouldn’t have bothered commenting if the rest wasn’t so good.
Will you be migrating to Unity 5?
I’m still in the process of filling out the animations and a lot of them are placeholder. What’s even worse is that those old animations don’t import to mecanim very well so they look even worse than what they were animated at lol. But yeah, most the jump attacks, crouching attacks, some of the standing kicks, and some of the specials are still using those old assets.
I just migrated this week. The cubes in the background are only there cause I was messing with the global illumination functionality.
Thanks for checking it out!
Was it painless? I’ve got like a 6 month project and I’m kinda hestitant to update.
Yeah it was pretty painless for the most part, but there are still a few issues.
- A lot of my UI animations got messed up and had to re-create most of the animation controller transitions between states. There’s also some funkiness happening with my menus that only shows up on my desktop and not my laptop.
- Shaderforge isn’t fully updated yet, right now my character’s can only be lit by the main directional light and not any point or spot lights in the scene. Actually this is only in the new deferred rendering, the legacy light prepass works fine.
- Initially had some artifacting with shadows on the characters but turned out to be due to the settings on the light.
Overall not bad. If you use version control you shouldn’t have any problem trying the migration and reverting if something goes wrong.

Still working on a getting to a releasable stage, just finished a large refactor and it’s feeling super smooth now.
Great work with the animations/
Thanks man
Also some stream footage
Looking good man.
I have to say, that looks really impressive for a one man job.
Is it a 4 button, or 6 button fighter? Edit: NM I just reread your OP. Unity eh? I’ve been wanting to learn Unity better myself, but a fighting game is probably way outside my scope right now.
Question, what outside tools are you using, for modeling and animations and the like?
Pretty sure my animator uses a combination of 3dsmax Maya and a mocap setup he has.
really good! It’s getting better and better.
