Double Dragon Neon gets release date!

Game doesn’t look all that great, but I gotta have that soundtrack.

Just in case you didnt notice - You can get it for free, if you want. That link I posted up above has the entire soundtrack with a “name your price” download. I just checked it out and a 0 will let you download it.

Nope, definitely didn’t notice that. Thanks for the heads-up!

The only review so far that gave the game an above average score was Joystiq at 90 and they loved the crap out of it. I’m sure there are plenty who would read that and play the game and disagree, it’s all opinion.

For whatever reason, Metacritic’s 360 listing doesn’t reflect EGM & Game Informer’s scores for the PS3 version (both above 80/100).

Like it’s been said, the game has a demo, & the premise is familiar enough so you’d know whether this particular title is your kind of thing from early on out.

I’m enjoying the soundtrack & the gameplay. Feels pretty good when you start to get on a roll & are just dodging everything your enemies throw at you.

Ahh I stand corrected on that then.

I used to be pro-read-critic-reviews. For games, that has kinda-sorta changed; some I still like reading where I find the reviewer jives with my taste, but for the most part I can’t stomach them.

Film reviews are (usually) better.

Anywho I’ll be playing this over the weekend.

While you can change button assignments, all told the controls use 7 buttons. I don’t know why they decided on mapping dash to a button. Double-tapping forward just seems more intuitive/efficient.

Not feeling the game play in the demo. It should have evolved more over the years.

All they had to do was play Super Double Dragon and go from there.

Why can I no counter and grapple???

I should give it a shot on pad, I played on arcade stick and didn’t use the dash much at all because of this. Then again that’s part of my problem with this game, these controls easily could have been settled down to 3-4 buttons, seems like combinations of punch+kick etc aren’t used at all.

I agree with MOB, I was expecting something closer to Super Double Dragon. More moves, more robust grapple system, etc. I’ll have to read the positive reviews and see what they saw in it.

I guess I was expecting something different from the developers, something faster maybe? I thought their take on Bloodrayne was fantastic, and that got mixed reviews for being so damned hard.

Super Double Dragon was too godlike. Counter-throwing human Blankas who then did then raged/did his winpose, luring the stupid AI to walk into the lingering explosions of their own bombs, locking guys down with the speedbag, everything about Mission 4.

But for some reason whenever publishers revisit the franchise, they always look to arcade DD. In that regard, I think this game does fairly well.

Super Double Dragon is my favorite DD game, Gren. It’s so good. You can Tatsu and Divekick in that game, the hell more would someone want in a beat 'em up?

Fuck that pussy shit.
Nigga’s can hulk up.
Ripping clothes n shit all the while van damming bitchs heads.

At the end of the day that’s what I felt about this game, it should have been Super DD, not classic DD. Joystiq review talks about different enemies having different patterns giving it variety, but I never felt like I had the same variety of options to deal with it. Just dodge > attack with whatever you want. If that changes as the game goes along then cool, but the whole thing felt dated rather than classic.

Honestly I want to download an emulator just to play Super Double Dragon like right now. That’s how that demo made me feel.

That’s EXACTLY what I did lol.

But like you said, after Blood Rayne Betrayal I didn’t expect this to be so basic.

I hate how they don’t value people with arcade sticks
there that high five crap which can net you an achievement on stage 7 where you need to click RS

Games uses 678987 buttons, like castle crashers

Well The Behemoth has ran CC in their own little arcade machines so there is a way that works without it being annoying.

Honestly though it’s not about “valuing” people with any sort of special controller. These made for console games don’t go to the arcades so they shouldn’t be expected to adhere to arcade standards.

Bah, I still haven’t got around to this. Damn me for keeping busy!

Could someone here post a good gameplay video? Seems like all the ones online suck. Expecially Max’s. I expected more from him. If I wanted to see that kind of video (which I don’t) I would have watched the game grumps.

yeeeeeeeeeeeeeee but those machines are really worthy.
That games uses a shit ton of buttons. Probably 3 more than are included on those cabs
-Youre right
marketers shouldn’t segment the market especially when marketing game based on an arcade game and with the number of stick sales too
